I slipped in the shower and the only thing that arrested my fall was a metal bar catching my top front teeth. One tooth shattered, one tooth broke in half above the gum line and another (lateral incisor) merely broke just before the nerve ending.

It required $8000 of dental surgery (about half-way through the process atm) of which insurance covered exactly $980 us dollars. :patriot:

Anyway, at least I got some oxy out of the deal :unsmith:

did you get 3 separate implants with the little post drilled into your jaw bone and then the fake tooth cap on top?

or were they 3 adjacent teeth and you got a bridge?

i dunno where you are in the process but I had something similar happen and the fake teeth they were going to put in on the posts when they posts were ready looked terrible. they took an impression and scans of the color or whatever so it was supposed to be good but I guess there is still a bit of an art to making them match and I had them remake it 3x times to get it right. didn't cost me anything more, I just refused to accept it until they got it right. keep that in mind for yourself and don't be afraid to strongly advocate on your behalf. remember you are going to see these things on your face every day

like they were obviously terrible, the size was too small or too transparent and looked blue but the dipshits at the dentist were totally going to permanently affix them to the posts unless I stopped them.

bridge, doc recommended it over individual implants because the adjacent teeth/roots were in good health. Also implants would have added like 5+ months of recovery time for non-significant benefit

In second grade I was loving around with a chair and snapped both of my new adult front teeth in half with the metal legs.

Had bonds for over 30 years now. Only needed to replace them twice so far.

But it's loving crazy looking in the mirror and seeing the gnarly damage. Condolences my dude

i'm guessing the break didn't impact the nerve? i'm told that's the ... "ideal" tooth chip/break situation

I just went to the dentist for the first time in about 20 years. Had to have a couple pulled and a bunch of fillings, but I expected far worse. Insurance capped out at $1k so it cost me like $5k. Getting a bridge done next year so the insurance will cover $1k of that too. It’s not the front teeth so it can wait.

Also I discovered I have a reaction to lidocaine. I almost passed out. That was fun.

Titanohyrax is an extinct genus of large to very large hyrax from the Eocene and Oligocene. Some species are estimated to have been as large as the modern rhinoceros. Estimates of body mass range from 600 kg (1,300 lb) to 1,300 kg (2,900 lb).

Sorry OP, teeth stuff sucks, hope you get it sorted as soon as possible.

I lost two molars this year from grinding my teeth at night so hard that they were digging into my jaw bone and causing horrible pain. Had em yanked under local plus a bone graft so they have something to set the implants in next year. I’m a $1000 in so far with insurance and I just got a bill for another $727 that I need to investigate because that would negate everything the insurance supposedly already paid for.

drat Buce, that blows, on so many different fronts. I've gone through 2 implants over the last 1.5 years and a couple of root canals and other things, and it's been tough, but absolutely nothing compared to what you're going through.

How many painful trips to the chair have you been through already? Is the worst of the work done? What did they have to do? Take everything out?

Sorry, Buce. I’ve had crummy teeth my whole life (genetics + well water throughout childhood), and despite mostly having insurance and care, it’s a nightmare. Doesn’t help that the industry is full of predatory scammers enabled by our crappy healthcare system.

the dentist was able to do most of the work in a single 2hr block (it helps that i'm good friends with his sister, so i'm almost certainly getting preferential treatment).

had to have 2 extractions, 2 bone grafts, and lots of drilly-grindy poo poo. honestly not that bad.

despite being an anxiety-sufferer (paxil, bro) i have literally zero dental anxiety for some reason. so i just said let's do it all at once, buddy

yeah, i've also dealt with my fair share of absolute poo poo scum dentists in the past. i only requested 5 oxys because i don't want to go down that path. ibuprofen can do the heavy lifting.
