Problem:

i#m in my bed reading a book in english, which is not my first language. There is a word that I dont understand.

Solution A: Use the tools provided by iBooks and iOS:

i highlight and select "definition"; an empty window opens
in the corner of said window, i select "manage" to download the New Oxford American Dictionary. I have to do this every time i start the app.
When I have downloaded the dictionary, i go back and there is still no definition.
i then have to close the window, highlight the word again, and select "definition"
now the window opens, displaying a definition (in english)
i understand the definition of the word, but still dont know the translation
i can now decide to select "search web". The iPad now switches from iBooks (which i am using in night mode, because I am reading at night) to a google search in safari (which is very bright)
if I'm lucky, there is a link to a dict.cc translation on the first page
i tap the link and read the translation
i douple tap the home button and then switch back to ibooks

Solution B: Use a third party eReader:

i download and install a third party eReader
i realize that I am unable to export the book from iBooks to the third party eReader
i then get up from bed to download and install itunes on my computer
using itunes, i download the book on my computer
i put the book into my dropbox
i open the dropbox app on my ipad and select the book file
i export the book from dropbox to the third party eReader
the book is using DRM and can not be displayed in the third party eReader
i kill myself
