2020 is a rough year to be alive. The world is literally on fire and nothing good ever happens. Post your favourite music that takes you away from it all for a few, fleeting moments. If you feel like it, explain what the piece is and why you like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jSotUeV0WI Ennio Morricone is probably the greatest composer of the 20th century and, sadly, a victim of 2020's brutal assault on everything. Yo Yo Ma played some of his more notable movie pieces some years back and this is my favourite track amongst them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1KIWM-VuAU LTJ Bukem was one of the pioneers of liquid, chilled dnb and this is one of the times he tried something a bit different. I have fond memories of running repeatedly around a field to this in April. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxMguACqa0k This feels a bit too 2020 to have released in the early 70's. Bob Dylan once said that he felt he never wanted Gordon Lightfoot's songs to end, and I agree completely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18cW_yHo3PY Just try to make it 30 seconds into this without bopping your head and tapping your feet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkfEh_fAgVk My favourite track from my favourite album by one of my favourite bands. I love a good chorus and, as melancholic as it is, something about this track makes me hopeful for something positive in the future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqmi39Tk0Xk I love Blue Wednesday and this track makes me relax despite whatever is spiking my anxiety at the current moment. I think the tempo helps me with breathing exercises as well (count 4 breaths in, 8 breaths out, for at least 5 minutes. one of the best relaxation techniques I ever learned)

I really like old lute pieces for chilling out. They're slow and pretty. Just like me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZYzuIGDYGs And it's impossible to be in a bad mood when you're listening to bluegrass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC6DuckeJUM This song always shuts my brain down and clears my thoughts for its duration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyY4IZ3JDFE oh dope has a new favorite as of 03:15 on Sep 3, 2020 |

Just happened to see this thread after getting high and putting on my favorite album to really unwind to, Melvins' Lysol EP. Specifically the first two tracks, which I think are collectively the centerpiece of the record. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtO_Awk4pqU The first eleven-minute track is essentially drone metal with incredibly lushly textured guitars dripping with overtones that only come from nice guitar amps that are turned up extremely loud. Deeply cathartic while also being kind of neutral in emotional tone which I think is interesting. The second track is just seven minutes of hypnotically slow, heavy riffs. There are vocals but they're not about anything important, and they're not obnoxious black metal raspy poo poo. Just guitar and bass textures so rich you can almost feel them against your teeth. Music this slow and heavy, played loud enough, feels like it's massaging your brain.

A few more from me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn2-WBqZY8w I really love this rendition. Probably one of the most chilled pieces of music I've ever heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDh1pPf6bg8 My mind afloat in an ocean of melancholy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bpS-cOBK6Q Who can stay down listening to Green Onions? I get all my relaxing songs from all the non-metal songs that folk metal bands put out. Some examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYm6qi6aIdY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wuRxSVkbqk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB-6xrZ4ND8

I was really trying to avoid the temptation of just posting this entire album, but I recently rediscovered Dreams by Gabor Szabo. The whole album has this ethereal quality to it. It's not quite jazz, not quite psychedelic, and not quite classical either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr0XWmEbiMQ&t Galatea's Guitar is probably my favorite track on the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZp_nGMj6GE

Hey this is a thread that deserves attention. I've spent a lot of time during the last 12 months listening to Japanese ambient and new age from the 1980s while working. Usually it evokes this deep peaceful feeling of being in the nature, just taking in some sights. It's a really unique scene with a definite aesthetic of its own. Really well suited to writing and editing alone at home and just chilling afterwards, I owe my dissertation to these records. Names to watch for: Hiroshi Yoshimura https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-k9Xu5O7AY Takashi Kokubo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWEI9y6PElo Akira Ito https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIqrqqKt12Q The last one is just perfect, like the music to a forgotten 1980s nature document about the deepest mysteries of the oceans. Chills down my spine every time.

This album pretty never gets mentioned or played and I'm not sure why cause it's one of members of Black Moth Super Rainbow and I think it's absolutely gorgeous. It's very trancey electronic stuff with tons of loops that fade in and out of itself and the album comes with literal pictures she's taken and distorted of long lonely roads and power lines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ygd8cOdXqhE

Apologies for necro-bumping my own thread. It has been a stressful few weeks and I have been listening to Hammock while trying to recuperate.
