Okay, I know no one liked what they heard, and listening to samples I can see why, but I'm still surprised this passed without comment -- Big D's new album came out on July 7, apparently. It sounds pretty bad to me, but then again, they're real hit-or-miss with me.

I like the song "Not loving Around".

I find most of the album rather catchy, even. But it is a big departure from older Big D.

So does anyone know of any shows worth going to in southern Ohio/northern Kentucky before the 16th of August? Leaving for college and need to get out to at least one more good show before I head out.

So Fearless aired another song from Streetlight's performance this weekend

This time, it's Would You Be Impressed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4lpJkDXj7c

e: from SM's site

quote:

So we've got the world's crappiest internet connection on this tour, so updating the site has been a nightmare, to say the least.

Here's a run down of some new info:

* The South American Tour has been cancelled for reasons out of our control. Apparently the swine flu is still wreaking havoc down there and it's greatly affecting the shows. We plan to reschedule for sometime in 2010.

* The Last Tour Of The Decade! We just posted all the dates for our final tour of the first decade of the new millennium. Dramatic! We'll be hitting a bunch of spots on the east coast (and a few not on the coast) before we take a break from touring for a bit (you know what that means). Since we are doing two back to back shows in NYC, we decided to play our two records in their entirety, in order, on those two nights. On Sept 20, at the Highline Ballroom, we'll be playing through our first record, "Everything Goes Numb". The next day, at BB Kings, we'll be playing through "Somewhere In The Between" from start to finish. These shows will be our last for quite some time, so buy your tickets asap as many of them will sell out. Also, we'll be pulling out songs from our back catalog throughout the tour. Just please don't expect Mrs Butterworth. Seriously.

* We have something else we're very excited to show you, but since we have the aforementioned worst internet connection on earth, we can't upload it until we get to a hotel or something. Stay tuned!

Hopefully this means 99songs and that he'll start working on BOTAR soon

I'm not sure that they can really make up for this album. It seems like they're gonna lose nearly all their fans and the album's not nearly mainstream enough to gain a new audience. If they played any of those songs live I would boo that poo poo.

You know, I was doing the math:

Round trip from Boston to NYC - $30
Tickets for both NYC dates and the Boston date - ~$60

90 bucks to see them 3 nights in a row? That is extremely doable.

I saw an interview last night, from early in July. Tomas said that basically the touring break is going to be like six months while they finish getting the record out

Saw Streetlight at Warped earlier this week, very entertaining. Tomas insulted the crowd and the rest of the Warped lineup throughout the set. Some quotes:

"80 percent of the bands on this tour suck."
"We're on a label, but they're assholes so steal all the music you want."
"Goodbye Kentucky, you were mediocre at best." (The show was in Kansas.)

I like to see singers display some personality. That kind of thing used to be common on Warped (NOFX, Vandals, Guttermouth, etc.), but this year the day's banter largely consisted of crap like "seems like a lot of you have Twitter based on your eye color" (Forever the Sickest Kids) and "show some loving movement" (A Skylit Drive).

Another amusing feature was that while most of the acts had giant cheesy banners, Streetlight just had their name scrawled on a piece of cardboard.

Quality set musically as well, tight horn section, and the mellow "Linoleum" cover played nicely outdoors on a summer afternoon. It was good to see ska live again, it's been a while for me.

Yeah, at the Boston stop he basically flat out insulted the band that JUST got off while they were still moving their poo poo off stage. Right before the last band got off they told them they were the best crowd so far, etc etc, so after Streetlight's first song he shouts, "Any bands that tell you that you are the best crowd are LYING, so you're not the best crowd, just try to be mediocre!"

I saw My Bloody Valentine a week ago. Loved it. Their last song is 10 minutes of just utter noise, loudest thing I've ever heard. Ear damage loud, and I was at least 200 or 300 feet away. I took my earplugs out for it, just for the sake of the experience.

And yet, I can't quite bring myself to hit the HD button on that video.

That's a sweet video but gently caress that song. When they announced the track list for Scrambles I was like 'gently caress YEA WEDNESDAY NIGHT DRINKBALL THAT'S GONNA BE SWEET rear end PUNK ROCK!!!' then it was this acoustic semi-indie bullshit. You can't name a song a title that awesome then have weak rear end music. Also agreeing that the facial hair is pretty tits.

I have no idea why they chose that song for a video. With 25 and Stuff That I Like, it just seems odd. There's a reason the slow songs are usually the second or 3rd single for an album.

E: Also: look @ dis guy refer to indie as a genre.

Haha, he sounds pissed off to be on Warped. When they were asking at shows if they should go on Warped or stay solo, he didn't seem to like the crowds louder response to Warped.

I've seen them a bunch of times (9 or 10?) and Tomas has insulted Victory in at least the last 4 of them.

Went to Warped in Salt Lake today, surprisingly good sets from just about every band I watched. LTJ was awesome, they played jonny quest which ruled, had a drinking contest between two old guys from the crowd, and made fun of the band before them (a skylit drive maybe?).

Streetlight had a carboard sign that said "IRONIC BANNER". They also said something along the lines of "we just wrote this brand new song on the bus" then played their linoleum cover.

Big D was actually really good, they only played one or two songs off their new album. They played LAX and got a giant circle pit going around the sound booth thing, and probably had one of the biggest crowds that wasn't on the main stage.

NOFX ranted about utah and mormons for about the first ten minutes of their set, and also ragged on devil wears prada for talking about jesus right before they got on stage. I guess it was jefe's birthday, so mike sang "happy birthday you loving wetback" to him, followed by jefe singing "happy birthday 'jew' loving shitkike" to mike. The rest of their set was every song on punk in drublic.

Apart from endless mobs of people in starburst colored v-necks with makeup on it was a pretty good warped this year.
