EDIT:

quote:

61) Sayid kills lots of people to be with his lost love, Nadia, and then reunites with Shannon in Heaven/Purgatory.

This really was a pretty big problem, thematically. Sayid and Nadia had an amazing love story, but Sayid and Shannon was awkward and very forced and never actually worked at all and was the worst part of early Season Two. They could have found another way to work Maggie Grace into The End.

I never really connected this before, but Sawyer was basically the "cop" of Dharmaville in season 5, the time when he lived a semi-normal life with his true love.

I watched "Left Behind" today and I think it marks the true turning point in Sawyer's development, even though he is conned into it. By Hurley, who's working it smoove with the "fake vote for banishment" con. Hurely gets Sawyer to do a bunch of stuff and then when he discovers the con, Hurley explains the point. And Sawyer gets it - it's pretty great acting watching it dawn on Sawyer the meaning in it all. Hurley also appoints Sawyer Leader, which is interesting considering the final role for Hurley as Big Island Daddy.

I get that. I thought there was something else... or something.

I really liked how Hurley kinda made it all happen. Sawyer could have easily gone further on the outs with everyone in Season 3, and then who knows what happens once time starts going wonky.

The Sayid/Shannon stuff was seeded pretty early on in the show, it wasn't just season 2. Also I'm pretty sure that sometime fairly early on in the last season he talks about his love dying in his arms, which kind of fits more with Shannon than Nadia. In his magical post-living existence he specifically puts Nadia in a position where he can spend time with her freely, but is completely unobtainable.

Nadia and Sayid were friends when they were kids but we don't know if they were ever involved, and he obviously held something for her, which she abused when she was busted for being an insurgent and wanted to escape. Sure, she was in the right (being an insurgent against Saddam Hussein) but that's not the best foundation for a lasting relationship. After he helped her escape he clearly built her up in a huge way in his mind.

Shannon/Sayid being reunited in The End isn't completely out of left field. She was kind to him, they didn't have some childhood crush thing going on, and she never needed him to shoot himself.

I assumed he had Nadia married to his bro in the Alt because he felt he didn't deserve her. I think it's a huge stretch to consider Shannon the love of his life when he specifically calls Nadia the love of his life many times throughout the show.

Also I think Sayid was there when Nadia got hit by the car, so she died in his arms also.

I think it really was just a way to shoehorn Boone and Shannon in the finale.

Also I wonder if that's a fake Nadia, like Jack's son. Pretty strange afterlife for her (same goes for Helen).

Aug 11, 2007

I forget where I read this, but it did some good for me to explain the Sayid-Shannon ending. To wit: He associated Nadia with guilt, with his past. He associates Shannon with his new start, a clean slate, a good life.

As such, in his wish fulfilling heaven, he gets to care and protect Nadia, but doesn't have her - it's too real. Shannon is real for him.

Not saying I completely buy it, but it makes some sense.

I mostly agree with the Lost selections, I suppose. I'd like to see more, but I realize I'm obsessed with Lost.

Speaking of which, I'm a bit sad the Lost thread is so slow now. No more intense, crazy high speed debates about... everything? :(

Speaking of, does anyone know the precise date they agreed with ABC that the show would end after season 6? I know it was sometime in Season 3, but I'd like to try and date the episode. Because the season does seem to move at two speeds - first third involving Hydra Island is wicked slow and has some of the worst episodes of Lost (but are still great because it's Lost), and then the last 2/3rds or second half really takes off and is some of the best Lost ever. For instance, the entire show pivots on the episode "Catch 22", which features the arrival of Naomi and thus, the freighter, which does begin the end. Just like Ben said.

Looks like it was publicly announced on May 6, 2007. I remember Lindelof said that they first started talking to ABC about an end date after "Stranger in a Strange Land", but I don't remember if he said "filmed" or "aired".

Good point.
I was hoping to see Allison Janey get the guest nod, hope foxy doesn't win best actor.
Terry O' Quinn deserves it hands down.
Michael Giacchino absolutely needs to win. The music was so essential to this show, maybe not for that episode though... He already has an Oscar, probably an Emmy.

It deserves and will get the best series award. Regarding the best writing; I just watched those two episodes of Mad Men yesterday out of the blue. They are some beautiful pieces of television. I would be pretty upset if they didn't give it to LOST though.

It's too bad. There was great acting all around, but I think Bryan Cranston obviously deserves that category. I think Kate and Claire were also very well acted in the final season. It's too bad they can't just hand out awards left and right I guess.

Terry O'Quinn deserves everything though. They should give that man his own private island that he can just roam around on.

Outstanding Music Composition For A Series belongs to Michael. His music is to LOST what John Williams score was to Jurassic Park: it would not have approached greatness without it.

His themes were so deftly crafted. I loved in the 4th season what he did with the music for the freighter. It was adventurous and hopeful on the surface, but there was this slight ominous undercurrent that kept reminding you that somewhere on the timeline something was going to go wrong with these new people.

Johnny B. Goode posted:

Pretty sure this was just their way of telling her that the 10 minutes she spent in LOST season 6 was more artistically worthwhile then her time on the entirety of V Season 1.

The way Course Correction works in this show is exactly how Faraday described it.
