As for Royce, he's only had like one "bad" album but I've always thought his poo poo gets same-y sounding. Death is Certain is solid, and Street Hop is ok. Bar Exam mixtapes always got decent reviews as well.

As for Crooked, don't know if he's had an actual album yet to be honest.

'Soul Food' is a great album, as is 'Still Standing'.

If you don't have it already, you'd be doing yourself a great injustice by passing over Dungeon Family's 'Even in Darkness'. It's a collaboration album consisting of Goodie Mob, Outkast and Organized Noize among others. Excellent fuckin' poo poo right there.

Yes, I have a few.

1. Read other reviewer's work and critique it, especially if it's a show you've seen or an album you've heard. Also ask other reviewers that you respect to critique yours.
2. Ask your editor for rewrite suggestions and don't get pissed if they come up with some things for you to change, even if it's the whole article.
3. Don't compare hipster bands to anything but other hipster bands or they'll get sand in their vaginas and piss and moan on Facebook, even if the review was positive.

You can PM me if you want to discuss further, no need to derail the rap thread with unrelated content.

this got me curious and evidently earlier this year somebody put together an "Ultimate Edition" of his unreleased Death Row album Say Hi To The Bad Guy that's sequenced like a real album instead of the collection of leaks that was out there previously. I haven't listened to it yet but really if you're looking for Crooked I poo poo try and find a Hip-hop Weekly compilation or some of his mixtapes, there's more material there.

after you listen to Soul Food check out the Cocaine Blunts Goodie Mob tape that collects various features, loosies, and remixes. Personally I wouldn't recommend the stuff after Still Standing unless you decide you really like Goodie Mob. Get Cee-Lo's solo stuff like caveman said instead.

Also, re: cavemanthugshit and Juggaknots - Trouble Man is definitely in my top favorite songs ever, every time I listen to it I discover something new. Plus that beat is dope as poo poo. ive been trying to think of a proper way to describe Breeze's flow and I can't pin it down, but I love it for sure. this is the most recent thing I've heard him on, if you've got something else let me know

oh and like 2 seconds of google and i stumbled on this from an interview lol:

quote:

Robbie: You’ve got a unique flow yourself. How did you develop that, or was it a natural progression?

Breeze: I wouldn’t call it natural. It comes from influences and just listening to a lot of cats. It’s just bugged… within the space of the bars, I’m trying to do a lot with it, but then at the same time, not doing too much, so that things are subtle. You wanna have punch-lines, but at the same time you don’t wanna hold the listeners hand. You wanna have it racey enough so that it’ll come by and be a nice flash, but you don’t want ‘em to miss the flash either. So just trying to keep that balance of being slick with it, and then not too overt with it – but obvious. It’s a cool challenge. If you got a good line – put it out there, but don’t say it like it’s the last good line you ever gonna have in your life!

and

Breeze posted:

“I’m Gonna Kill You”, is my favorite song I’ve ever recorded. If I never make anything like that from here on in, I’m good, because that song, right there is… I really couldn’t improve on it if I tried. Lyrically and musically and song structure-wise, that’s my favorite joint.
this is awesome cause i cant explain how much I love the line after the first little refrain "Hmm.. That's different." it's probably my favorite next to Trouble Man

For Royce, Bar Exam 1 & 2 are really good, so is Death is Certain. His others are good too, but IMO not as good as those. Ooooh WEE, That's how I sound, so C'MON ERR-BODY LET'S ALL GET DOWN.
so i checked through a bunch of this thread's pages but haven't checked the old thread, i apologize if this has been discussed.

i've been getting really heavy into hip hop lately, mostly really downtempo/weird/stoner type stuff i guess would describe it pretty well. my current favorites:

Clams Casino (producer out of jersey)

illest alive (instrumental) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1WKRxWzilY
i'm god/2 milli (instrumental) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTyRqg4PVvQ

Main Attrakionz (group out of Oakland, my current favorite group, love these dudes)

legion of doom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGio8soejMQ

this beat is just loving amazing, it seriously makes me hella happy. the way there voices work together and the flow is just perfect.

shining everytime http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twVAlvBTnZ8

another amazing beat. both of these songs were produced by squadda b from MA. (clams casino does a significant amount of their production as well.)

Lil B

i'm heem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQM9PeO47jg

one of my favorite tracks from him. the beat is just sooo sick, a slow roller for sure. lil'b was my introduction into this kind of stream of conscience style hip hop, and still my favorite emcee at the moment. his whole attitude and positivity is inspiring.

age of information http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=corY-FZAZog

another awesome downtempo track. reminds me of mos def kind of.

real plexxx http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoJ3Rqn7lC8

probably one of my top 3 favorite lil b tracks, off one of my favorite hip hop albums 6 kiss.
----------

that's just a small sample of the songs, and i'm sure most of you are aware of at least lil' b, but my real question is, can you recommmend to me anything similar to these dudes in ways of style or production? also, i have almost all of lil' b's stuff so don't say download one of his other 352354234 mixtapes hahaha. thanks a lot NMD.

well, i've always been into it. i listen to the whole spectrum of rap from brotha lynch to anticon to lil b. it's just that for some reason those dudes i posted up there strike some serious chords or something, i just really love the music and the overall sound of em'. haha yeah though, getting that into lil' b is kinda strange i guess. i always try to get my friends into him but all they can say is that he's whack.

the mind is so complex when you're based, 32 levels ahaha.

edit: i know that's not a huge sample of the whole "spectrum of rap" but let's just day i know my poo poo so i don't gotta name drop a bunch of dudes to earn cred, coo?
