No it's not that one. I know which one you're talking about but there's a locked gate in the colosseum beneath the fort with another chest behind it.

There's eventually a noticeboard quest in the encampment to fight ??? there that will unlock that gate.

I got the Bronze Idol from the witch's house, but I've heard about getting locked out of better upgrades by using it instead of better versions. What should I do with it, if anything? There don't seem to be any quests that need it or anything.

I fought the Dragon earlier. That was awesome! I saved some random female from Gran Soren I gave some juice and skulls too when I was trying to figure out the affinity nonsense, and now she's just chilling in my house in Carradis. All she'll say is 'Thank you for your kindness.' Time to mop up and take a break for a few days I think. Any requests on how I should setup Garfunkel while I'm gone? She has max mage/sorc/strider/ and some ranger at this point. Though she doesn't have all of the Sorcerer skills.

Goddamn I am a big whiny baby but I've been a strider for something like 37 levels and decided to switch to something else, even though strider is pretty perfect. I figured I could at least pick up augments as I leveled other things up, and maybe I'd find some nice ones to use when I switch back to strider later.

So I switched to assassin. Got it to vocation level 2 I think. Then waltzed off to bluemoon tower for the 2nd time to kill that wizard for the wyrmking ring.

Goddamn. Archer + other bandits kept slaughtering me and I didn't take a sword OR shield with me, and I no longer had that entangle snare to just knock everyone down like an rear end in a top hat. My pawns were new too and they don't seem to be that fantastic either. I cried and switched back to strider and went back to own things more easily. :( But I kind of still want to level other vocations up, I guess I should stick it out?

Also, did anyone forge the item in that quest? I wouldn't use it myself but I'd give it to my pawn to hold.

I've started to believe that if you want to make the most of a hybrid class then you should get a few ranks of the basic class it is based on first. Also don't start any big quests with a rank one vocation unless you are feeling badass.

I bought the Focused Bolt core skill for my mage (hold [ ] to charge) but I have no clue how to use it. If I hold [ ] it just shoots out a fireball on its own, same as my normal X attack.

edit: nevermind figured it out, you really have to hold it for a long time.

I think assassin is generally a pretty weak class until you're a pretty high level, especially if you've only gone strider and haven't pumped some survivability augments out of the fighter/warrior vocations.

DrNutt, tell you pawn to stop stealing loving everything.

That said, I just had a grueling as hell fight against the dragon in the Devilfire Grove, lost promptly to it and wandered about some cliffaces in the pitch blackness for a while and had a crazy fight against a glowing magic golem, balanced precariously on the cliff's edge, with only my lantern and it's glowing weakpoints the source of light. Awesome.

Another question, are weapon elements not the same as elemental buffs? I remember when I used Thunder Boon on my staff my lightning balls bounced to nearby targets, but when I use a staff with an innate lightning enchantment it doesn't bounce.

To be fair, I should have seen it coming that the quest wouldn't be easy. It was fine enough just running around in the wilderness.

I might try fighter then, I heard it has some item-carrying augment that adds 10kg weight or something? That sounds kind of cool. Really I am pretty happy with strider, I have no doubt the other classes have their own cool poo poo going on though. Maybe I'm just simple. v:shobon:v

Ferrystone: A thing you use to fast travel.
Portcrystal: A thing you use to create a fast travel spot.

So the idea is that you get Portcrystals, set them down at convenient locations, and create your own fast travel network by using Ferrystones. It's kind of expensive but useful if you want to travel vast distances quickly.

I think I'm giving up on this game. This is the third time the game's terrible autosaves have set me back 30-45 minutes in this escort quest. I think I'm still fairly early on in the game, but I can't stand it anymore. I loved Demons/Dark Souls, so it's not necessarily the difficulty that's pissing me off, as much as it's the long treks through samey wilderness and bad mechanics.
Here's how the save system works. There are two saves. One of those saves is an autosave, which you can force by hitting select in the menu (or going into Save/Quit and saving there).

The second save is a "checkpoint" save. You can restore to this by going into the menu and going into Save/Quit and rolling back to your checkpoint save. Checkpoints are taken when A) you rest at an inn or B) enter a nexus. That's it!

Whenever you die, you will hit retry to return to your latest autosave (which is any time you progress a quest, transition a zone, rest/enter a nexus, or manually save).

Edit: Oh yeah, on the topic of port crystals. When can I put them down or where can I put them down? I tried putting one down in the first town but it wouldn't let me for some reason.

Importantly, you can also always teleport to Gran Soren, even before you find a Portcrystal.

The spot is right outside the pawn guild, and you'll find your first Ferrystone in there. You can buy more from Black Cat or a rich guy up in the noble quarter.

No, it's there as soon as you enter Gran Soren. It's pretty well hidden, though. It's not actually in the area named "slums," rather, it's in the venery. The only building there with a sign.

The best part about this game is how little loot there is. That might sound weird to some people but in games like Skyrim, Diablo, KoA, It's like you're drowning in loot. Almost every chest you open has loot. In this game, when you find ANY kind of equipment, it feels like you won the lottery.

This is probably, at this point (I've probably played about 7-10 hours of the game so far) my favorite open-world RPG like...ever. I don't know why, but this game makes me want to just go out and kill things so much more than any other open world RPG I've ever played.

I think that's part of the genius of this game. Because it's so fun just to go out, explore, and kill poo poo, they can be much more judicious in how they dole out the loot. In Skyrim, for example, if I killed a giant chimera that almost wrecked my poo poo and all i got was some bones or something, I'd feel like I was cheated. But in this game, killing the chimera is a reward in itself. So when I just get bones, it's like, "holy poo poo, super special chimera bones".

I don't think so, you can have as many as you can hold I believe. Fournival runs out of stock and if you really need Ferrystones then Black Cat sells an unlimited supply at 20k a piece. When you have like 6-7 Portcrystals down across Gransys and a huge purse, 20k for a jump doesn't seem so bad.

How do you get multiple portcrystals?

I'm in the Rift looking at Pawns to summon, and does it make a difference whether a particular spell or ability is equipped as a Primary or Secondary skill? Will they cast it more if it's Primary, or is that determined by their personality?

Do you mean the New Frontier? Because that is through one of the holes in the ground in the shadow fort, the one in the far right corner assuming you come in through the front door

Also, I briefly switched to Mystic Knight for a while and OH man, the riposte skills for the shield are actually pretty awesome if you can get the perfect guard timing down. I managed to get 4 holy ripostes off within about 8 seconds, which meant that the 6 bandits around me were having lots of fun with the 16 or so glowing orbs of death surrounding them. Mind you, I couldn't exactly see anything at that point.

Definitely doing a fighter first game next time instead of strider -> ranger like I did. (mind you ranger owns, just saving the points for the upgraded gambit skill and then I'm set.

Sixfold Bolt (6 homing ice arrows)
Hunter Bolt (10 homing arrows, it's one per small target or all 10 on a giant target)
Magical Flare (you can see at night!)

Those are the main three I used. I was only a magick archer up to 5, then I switched around to learn some augments. Gonna go back to it as my main class later on.

So I'm at the second "if you take this quest, all your others will get cancelled!" quest and, well, the past 5-6 quests I've done have probably been from the adviser anyway, so I'm pretty sure I'm missing out on a bunch. I don't have anything too special in my questlist. Gran Soren is kind of big so it's often easy to miss new quests if people are chilling out in their houses or something, and I haven't even been back to the encampment or anywhere else really, just going straight where the quests want me to and back. So does anyone know of quests that might be open around now that I'll want to do before I continue on?
