It does make sense for some human enemies to be high-level badasses like you are, but the game really needs a way for you to identify them before you hit them and they lose one pixel of life.

How do you change personality traits? The only two I've ever seen available to me are Challenger/Scather.
Using the DPad to order pawns in different circumstances, pushes them into certain tendencies. There's also a dude in the Encampment who sells potions for adjusting personality traits, he's right beside the riftstone.

Additionally, your pawns will tend to copy you, os if you run around mid-combat picking flowers, you should very much expect that your pawn will start trying to do the same poo poo..!

The rest of it I gleaned from here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/626514-dragons-dogma/62862300

quote:

Gameplay Style : How you play the game will affect your pawn's inclination.

Trait to Raise........Action Taken

Scathing................Enter battle with enemies as they appear (I have found if you use "Go" pretty often in combat, they tend to end up Scather very quickly.)
Medicant................Heal, remove status effects, use the "Come" order in combat.
Mitigator..................Bring down weak targets first
Challenger.............Focus on long range attackers or enemies with support skills (No idea how to do this without potions, personally. Way, way easier!)
Utilitarian................Use support skills and enchantments
Guardian.................Use the "Help" and "Come" commands often, avoid using "Go"
Nexus......................Quickly heal your pawns and remove their status ailments
Pioneer....................Use the "Go" command when you are not in combat (be REALLY careful using "Go" out of combat, if you DON'T want a Pioneer tendency! I try and make sure I NEVER use "go" unless I've already dealt damage to at least one opponent, to make sure I'm fully engaged in combat)
Acquisitor................Pick up items (if you do this in combat, you aer creating your own problem down the line..)

quote:

Answer
S | Scather : + Target strongest foes, might be more aggressive in fighting
+ | Medicant : + Concern about HP and debuffs, heals
M | Mitigator : + Targets weak enemies
C | Challenger : + Targets ranged/mage enemies
U | Utilitarian : + Better teamwork, possibly skill use
G | Guardian : + Guards the Arisen
N | Nexus : + Guards ally pawns
P | Pioneer : Scouts ahead
A | Acquisitor : + Gathers items, even during battle

Using basically this stuff, I was able to train my fighter to be a Scather/Challenger very easily using nothing but "Go" when in combat, and "come/help" when riding on giant enemies (I never chased around archers, I just gave her one Challenger potion and it stuck), and she stayed that way for a full day, until I fed her a few potions to make her a Challenger/Nexus, instead.

Potions tend to take one to put a skill in the secondary slot, and two or three to get it into the primary slot.. I suspect that they're percentiles or something, so continuing to push their primary trait consistently, will probably reinforce it and keep it from "slipping".

Also, I assume that the list isn't finished, yet? I heard someone in IRC refer to "strongwarish" and it's not on the list at all..?

Yeah, I tried to do the "Escort Selene to the Healing Spring" quest, and I'd pretty much come to the point where I was like "Heh, bandits :smug:" and then they murdered Selene and sent me running straight into a pack of Direwolves. It was a pretty healthy serving of humble pie.

Hey guys! I'm having a good time, what about you?

So I guess the big question is: what happens when you gift a pawn with one?

e2: I'm also curious about the Wyrmking ring. I kept it in my first playthrough and just got another one but I'm not currently playing a magic class so I can't really see if the effect stacks. Then again it would be pretty hard to measure anyway. I need to get my hands on like 5 more to see what will happen with all of them in inventory.

The FASTEST and easiest way to change traits is to buy the potions from the rift store. Hell just buy like 10+ of each and keep them in storage in case you ever feel like changing things around.

The above methods to raise these things do work though. There was a point in the game in which I was running through long stretches of land and I kept using the "come" command because I was worried the pawns would fall behind and get chopped up or something, and later when I checked my main pawn's secondary inclination had become guardian from whatever it used to be.

I read somewhere that two or more rings don't stack their effects, but I don't remember where. It's almost too bad you can't equip the ring, because I keep it on my pawn but people who rent her don't get the same benefit. Although she already has the sorc augment, so that's an extra.

Completely unrelated, end-game spoilers:

So yeah, that was a pretty interesting ending. I don't care for metaphysical nonsense, to be honest. Bioware should take notes on how to do that type of ending.

Is the Ur-Dragon only available on post-game or can I go and do some more runs in NG+? Also, since there is a story reason for NG+, do you end up fighting your previous play-through's Arisen at the end of NG+ or is it the prologue guy again?

I feel like I can say, without much hyperbole, that this game is (at least mechanically) one of the best RPG's I've played in a long time. It just nails how I feel old school D&D would translate into modern game technology.

Basically if I could force the guys who put together the combat, character progression and monster design in this game to have sex/babies with the world designers/story guys over at Bethesda, I'd never be able to turn off my PS3.

Oh, that's interesting. It wasn't spelled out but I figured the Dragonforged was the guy from the prologue, but it still was a neat twist that the guy in the beginning succeeded instead of pussying out like the Duke did. I figured that the endless cycle stuff was that the dragon would always come back but not for the reasons presented and that your Arisin would break that cycle forever. Was interesting and pretty good, but I prefer my storybook, simple endings.

Anyway, had an interesting excursion today when I realised about halfway into the middle of nowhere that the reason my health was so low was that i'd accidentally picked up two sorcerors. A no-healing party is, apparently, reasonably effective, given that there's no downtime from murdering, but as you'd imagine you tend to use more herbs and the like.

My pawn is getting continual across the board 4 star ratings though. It's good, really, but i'd obviously prefer higher. He's almost reached full Fighter proficiency, though, so I can switch him back into Warrior where he used to get higher reviews.
