The dodge really isn't as ridiculously good as it is in many other games. It's actually a pretty sensible roll.

The game gets substantially easier once you get some gear and enhance it, and once you have about 10 or 15 levels I'd say for the health/stamina bonuses. Your health pool is quite pathetic at the start.

There are three points for me. First one was when a harpy caught me and dropped me from high as hell, only for my pawn to catch me on the way down. I was all :aaaaa:

Second point: During the Mercedes duel If you kill Julian and then revive him with a Wakestone, he'll appear in the castle dungeons and you can talk to him to receive his shield.

Finally, when I got Instant Reset.

When playing as a Mystic Knight, I placed down a Ruinious Sigil next to a wall and watched 4 bandits bounce themselves to death while I kept spamming more sigils.

So far the one complaint I have is that there should be a noticeable difference between enemies of different skill levels. I was trying to do a fetch quest where I have to fight some bandits, and I was going along fine killing everything along the way, never having any real trouble. Then simply running into the bandits a few yards up the road they were able to take me out in 2-3 hits making me start over.

That's just a quest NPC but I think she's wearing an alchemical cloak. Madeleine sells them at some point but if you really want one i can send it to you if you're on PS3.

It's really, really useful to be able to pick up the NPC you're escorting and just huck them over walls and such.

I accidentally got Ser Berne stuck down near the entrance to the Altar, and he refused to jump up. So, just threw the bastard up there (you can throw from a jump, btw). He seemed appreciative, in the end.

You're stuck with direwolf unless you give Caxton a better idol. You can try your luck with bluemoon or soulflayer chests for a slight upgrade though. The best way is to just progress the plot, you're close to a point where you'll see better items soon.

Dear God the escort missions are possibly one of the worst implementations I've ever had to play through. Is it possible to just take the expected route alone, kill everything, ferrystone back then lead the escortee through the emptied wilderness? Or does the game get wise and respawn everything?

Yeah, you can clear the majority of an area and then do the escort through it. You don't even need to ferrystone if you're quick and know where you're going.

But for the first time in my life, I think I've gone too far.
Stuff stays dead for a long time. Just send your pawns into battles first. The escortee will always stick close to you, so stay back unless they can fight. Mage pawns can also heal them to full no matter how low they get.

Beardface continues to be amazing. He's still a sorcerer, and I really don't see that changing any time soon. I absolutely love the meteor attack, Bolide I think it's called? It's just so loud and ridiculous, and does poo poo-loads of damage. And Maelstrom or whatever, that just fucks up everything. It's great when he uses it in a cave and it's impossible to see anything for a while. Makes me laugh every time.

Only just worked out that that Warrior skill that's called Arc of something-or-other is a charge attack. Blasted off about half of one of those mini-ogre's health, then Beardface finished him off with meteors. This game is amazing.

I've just met the Duke for the first time, I've been wandering around a lot, just messing around mainly, but the Pawn system keeps being brilliant. Every quest I've been on, at least one of them has known where to go or what to do. Beardface usually knows what's up, he's been on a whole bunch of quests without me. They like shouting about fire a lot, I find. That and getting wet.

Oh, and I love how silly the goblins are. One leapt out of a bush at me and I couldn't stop laughing. I like that there's enemies in this that are basically just ineffectual, useless comic relief. The only danger I ever get from them is when they throw torches at me and set me on fire.

Alternately just run past everything. Your escortee will teleport to you much like your pawns, though a little further away for some reason. Always ended up having to sprint to the Shadow Fort with the drake chasing me at the end of escort missions and it usually worked out.

I have no idea why it's not had amazing reviews. It's great fun, and you can do so much ridiculous poo poo it's untrue. To be honest, I was pretty much sold once I heard you could throw stuff around, and I haven't really looked at any reviews of it. All I know is, I really like this game.

The biggest issue for me is that the only thing approaching a fast travel system doesn't become viable at all until New Game+. And that's only really an issue because because even just traveling from town to town you end up having to fight your way through dozens and dozens on enemies.

I think Dark Souls was a case of word of mouth with the media. Demons' Souls came around, was good, but no one cared because it wasn't a big title that had marketing where it was shoved in everyone's face. So the same team comes out with a spiritual sequel to it and everyone jumps on board because that's what some hardcore gamers did with the first one and they want to stay relevant.

The negative reviews that I read just didn't understand the game and didn't take the time to. It was just a game that they didn't want to play because it's a sort of dry spell and their site needed content. Some negative things are: lack of a proper fast-travel system like Skryim's carriages, Pawn AI is chatty, weak story. Those are some common ones I've seen that have some merit.

It's a bit of a skeptical view, but keep in mind that I have absolutely no respect for the gaming press. The only ones I actually like are Giantbomb and their review of this game was kind of ho-hum. Though they do have a point, in my opinion, about the world being better in Skyrim. That game's world is absolutely gorgeous and more varied, this one is interesting to be sure but it's mainly grasslands and forests with some rocky barrens.

One thing that still really confuses me in this game; how do I climb up enemies? I've been killing big enemies without climbing on them, because the second I grab them they start flailing around wildly and I'm unable to move until my stamina is fully drained and I fall off.

I'd like to figure this out because killing things by just whacking their legs repeatedly or plinking away with a weak bow is starting to get annoying.

It's mostly about where you grab. Grabbing on to a cyclops's limbs for example will have him shake you a bunch, but you can jump from the ground to his tusks during a few of his attacks or just scale his back pretty easily (The only thing you can do if you've climbed on to his head is a grab that you can dodge by jumping at the right time)

The DLC weapons are the most interesting thing at the moment-- they shouldn't make you overpowered but they scale really well so you can use them as long as you care to upgrade them. The side quests are really boring and pretty much the equivalent of finding seeker's tokens with quest markers that tell you exactly where they are.
