Just spotted this mod on the Nexus' Files of the Month:

Alternative Fast Travel, by Puce Moose

It adds Fast Travel Hubs, like the carts from Red Dead Redemption. It requires a no Fast Travel mod to go with it, but you can now have a restricted fast travel playthrough without the mind blowing frustration of having it completely disabled. I'll let you know if it's worth bothering with!

They're the "New Vegas Uncut" mods. This is the link to the author's page, since there are like 8 of them. Just click on his profile's mods tab.

Is there a general consensus in this thread regarding these? Haven't heard them mentioned before, but if they do what they claim to do (and aren't a buggy mess) that sounds pretty interesting.

I like them. I haven't had any issues with the mods, and I especially like what they've done with Freeside (although it might negatively impact performance if your PC isn't too hot.) It feels like they have a canonical blessing, too, even though they've had to take liberties with building some of the material from scratch.

In other news, I redid a lot of the OP. I've cut seven or eight old / obsolete mods and replaced them with poo poo that should have been in the OP for a while now, such as IWS, FXAA Injector, and Imaginator. I've also introduced an "NPC / RACES" section for cosmetic and race mods, and a "SHADERS" section for stuff like Depth of Field and FXAA Injector utilities. If you guys have any recommendations for the OP, post them!

Operation Fixed Terrain is no longer on the nexus - it is part of NVEC, which should be in the OP (although I didn't see it), maybe with a warning of how much poo poo it actually fixes changes.

I removed OFT, but I'm looking at NVEC's Nexus page and...what the gently caress? First thing is a picture of a nude chick with H-Cup tits pointing a "plasma revolver" at the camera. Is the "NVEC - Bugfixes" truly a bugfixes plugin, or does it incorporate, "things a 16-year-old kid thought needed changing"?

EDIT: I should also mention that I have "Mission Mojave" under the Miscellaneous section, which is another bugfix compilation.

EDIT 2: One of the new NVEC Challenges is "Damage the poo poo out of enemy heads with bullet rifles." :holy:

I installed the NVEC Complete package just kind of assuming it was a decent bugfix + gameplay enhancer combo.

I active a microscope in Doc Mitchells house and I get the message "You must have 50 Medicine or higher to examine blood packs retard." I promptly quit the game.

Just use the bugfixes portion - it doesn't include all the "enhancements" (which is like 100+ mods rolled up into one ESM)

Stuff like Active Wasteland, etc.

The bugfixes portion includes Operation Fixed Terrain, though.

There should be nothing terrible in the bugfixes. At least I haven't noticed anything yet and I've played a char from level 1 to 24 at -25%exp gain (takes somewhat longer) since installing it.

The complete package is so worthless, not in the least because of its inclusion of the most tactilol weapons pack I've seen in any game.

I just found these this morning myself and they seem pretty cool. On the other hand, NPC Project's revision of Freeside and 188 Trading Post seemed cool too, and were in fact giant pieces of poo poo. Before I finally started over to get rid of them, the pile of dead muggers outside Old Mormon Fort had 15 bodies in it. How do we make Freeside interesting? Make all the beds owned and triple the number of random attackers, I guess.

From what I've read on modding forums, Mission Mohave/NVEC aren't very well liked. The popular sentiment is that they break almost as much as they fix and quite a lot of their 'fixes' are personal preference bullshit stuff that's usually totally unnecessary. I guess MM conflicts like a mother fucker too? I dunno, just parroting what I read across the communities.

I've heard similar opinions. Personally, I don't use them. I don't think there are so many lingering issues with the game that I'd use a plugin that claims to fix over 20,000 entries.

What other mods are you running? I tried to run CCO, PN and Sawyer together and I never had much luck. If you do have Project Nevada, check what the health values are on the Rebalance menu for levelling up: I could get HP when I levelled by increasing those. Keep levelling up, see what happens. I ended up scrapping CCO besides the Follower Tweaks. I think it's just difficult trying to get that many balance/tweak mods to play together at once.

And thanks to whoever suggested I reinstall MCM, that worked great. God knows what I was doing when I tried to do it.

If there were, nobody would be talking about using the lovely ones. :v: It sounds like people have had bad experiences with both NVCE and Mission Mojave, but that could be said of any popular mod, really. You may install one and never have an issue with it. I'm not sure why a comprehensive "community patch" is necessary, though. Unlike Oblivion and Fo3, the game's not broken or unplayable without one.

There's no magic bullet for performance improving mods, either. You may win a few FPS with a utility here or a plugin there, but the simple fact is that the engine is woefully dated. After a certain point, the number of processor cores and the amount of RAM you have is largely irrelevant. Use the 4GB extension if you have the RAM for it, install the game on an SSD if you can afford it, and be smart about the type and amount of AA / AF you use.

I've found, strangely, that using normal motion blur from pyDOF (OP's "Shaders" section) actually makes the game feel much more fluid. In areas where I might normally stutter, I don't have any problems at all. Call it confirmation bias if you want, but I swear it works.

This may be true now, and for some of us it was still true when we booted the game up for the very first time at launch (speaking from personal experience), but a lot of people were turned off or bashed New Vegas incredibly harshly for how buggy it was at release. It has been fixed quite a bit since release, and now it's pretty uncommon for my game to crash if I'm rolling pure Vanilla, but the game still carries a huge stigma with it for it's rocky launch. While it is fine now, a lot of modders and players still have the mindset that the game is horribly bugged and needs to be fixed, hence the work on an all-encompassing patch instead of minor module patches.

I run MM at the moment because it's so far the only thing in my mod inventory that removes the GRA tags from weapons and makes weapon mods fully compatible. I also have increased stability after installing it, which I assume to be a sign that I lucked out and one of the fixes happened to be the one that was crashing me a lot, but this shouldn't be taken as a glowing endorsement since my current Vegas install is a sprawling mess that needs to be sorted out at some point. I'll probably take a new look at MM's total worth when that happens, and welcome any suggestions of other mods that do away with the GRA tags and weapon mod incompatibility.

I can't recall if women were allowed in the pre-war army, but given its incredible fifties-style sexism, it isn't a stretch. Still dumb.

I'm using Mission Mojave at the moment, and I'm not sure if it fucks with any new files, but as far as I can tell, all crashes and dumb bullshit are caused by other mods, and now that the most problematic (AWOP and Momod) are disabled for now, it's not giving me any grief.

I just installed it last night, and I can tell you it has problems with New Vegas Restoration and mods that add map markers to Freeside. NVR adds an east gate to Freeside that used to drop you at Mick & Ralph's, but now deposits you on an open plain full of floating streetlights and bedrolls. The markers do the same thing, I'm guessing both refer to a cell that is no longer used. If you enter through the north gate or fast travel to the strip and use the strip gate everything works fine.

khwarezm posted:

FOMM is not the 'manager' they are referring to, you'll need to download it manually. I still use FOMM for New Vegas, and I use the nexus manager for Skyrim. It seems to work better that way.

Yeah this can happen in heavily scripted sequences, any Vernoica & Elder McNamara sequence can break and stall in my game, also the Come Fly With Me launchpad speech & Van Graff intro sequence. What surprises me is I always thought it was Mission Mojave or Project Nevada, but apaprently you aren't running MM and I've uninstalled PN and still get the breaks. Also Cirosan, turns out you have to manually edit in CCO's health variables to the Project Nevada Rebalance options for them to take effect. Once I did that I gained health fine. PN is set to not gain any health on level up by default.
