The broken bones posted:Think there was any palm greasing (or maybe just handshake agreements) to get them to a PSA 10? I know they're a lot tougher on grading now than ever and it's virtually impossible to get a 10 these days. I had not heard that PSA is grading any tougher these days. Do you have any evidence for that, anecdotal or otherwise? I do know it's a lot tougher to get a BGS (Beckett) 10 than it is a PSA 10 though. BGS 9.5 is considered by most to be the same as a PSA 10. BGS 10's are rare and I've never seen one with all four subgrades a 10.

Got an Al Kaline auto out of an A&G box, where it's notorious to get some not-so-good hits, but I just like the style regardless.

More anecdotal than anything, but having spoken to some higher ups at heritage and a former PSA grader, they were saying a 10 ten years ago is a 8 or 9 today at best--if you have something graded by PSA in the 90s and early 00s, don't regrade it.

That actually makes a degree of sense if you correlate that with the fact that the market was HUGE for graded cards then, more so even than today. There are just a lot less people in the hobby now that values have plummeted and many have left or been priced out of the market.

My hit from a box of 2012 Topps Series 2 was an Alex Avila relic. At least I also pulled the David Freese where he's holding a squirrel, and the Rod Barajas error.

Nah, that pic is from a card trading forum where a guy posted all of his hits from an entire case. I just happened to see the Balloon Boy one and thought I'd post it here after the comment about it.

I just opened a box of Topps Heritage (2012) and my "hit" was a Jose Reyes relic (jersey). I now have a stupid question that I probably already know the answer to. He is in a Mets uniform on the card, if this was pulled in a box break I assume it goes to the Mets owner as opposed to the Marlins? Also got a Billy Butler refractor, which I'm sure will go for a king's ransom with the way they were nonstop booing Cano at the HR Debry. Wait, it's barely worth a buck? poo poo.

I bought a jumbo box of 2012 Topps Series 2 to put the set together and got stiffed on the autograph. This is the first time Topps has screwed me over on a hit! I'm still waiting to hear back from customer service on it. At best I'm going to get a book value $8 scrub right?

A couple people at the National who saw the PSA 10 Wagner said it had some bad registration issues (and thus was a questionable 10), which I suspect depressed the hammer price a lot. Still pretty strong given that this was only the first five percent or so of the find.
