I said it ages ago in another thread but what pretty much happened is that everyone else has gone so far off the edge of what was once the Right Wing that Bill O'Reilly, who was really the first "angry conservative pundit" who laid the groundwork for Beck et al, has become moderate in comparison. His schtick of yelling and cutting peoples mikes off for disagreeing is almost quaint now in the post Glen Beck world of Soros conspiracies. In other words, he hasn't shifted but everyone else on his side has. Remember when we used to post YouTube vids of him being a moron? Don't those seem tame now?

Is it bad that O'Reilly just sounds more like an angry 'common sense' grandpa type now? Like Red Forman with a talk show? I used to think he was scum of the earth but he's just tame now compared to his contemporaries- or even Limbaugh for that matter. Then again I've seen cracks in a few of the Fox pundits lately, as if some are realizing just far off the deep end their politics have gone.

I think the idea behind accusing various media figures of being fakes is to imply that not only are the viewers taking idiocy for wisdom but they're also being tricked, which is a Big Deal to viewers who probably fancy themselves no-bullshit, independent, no-one's-fool, etc. I've honestly never though it was that important. I'd also suspect anyone who did this kind of poo poo professionally and hung in these circles would, at most cynical, have a weird relationship with sincerity. I seriously doubt any of these characters actively disbelieve everything they say and drive home laughing at the audience's expense, however much people want to convince themselves of it.
