I'd hate to see what it would be like applying the aggressiveness of modern football with the lack of safety from early football. This should always be posted in cases like these: quote:[Wayne] Shelford made his Test debut for the All Blacks later that year against France in a 19–7 victory in Toulouse, and then was a notable victim of the infamous "Battle of Nantes" in the second Test. Roughly 20 minutes into the match, he was caught at the bottom of a rather aggressive ruck, and an errant French boot found its way into Shelford's groin, somehow ripping his scrotum and leaving one testicle hanging free. He also lost four teeth in the process. Incredibly, after discovering the injury to his scrotum, he calmly asked the physio to stitch up the tear and returned to the field before a blow to his head left him concussed. He was substituted and watched the remainder of the game from the grandstand where he witnessed the All Blacks lose 16–3. To this day Shelford has no memory of the game. loving rugby man. The comments make me depressed. There are people calling bill O'Reilly a progressive Liberal. I mean, I'll admit that O'Reilly says things I agree with more often than... Say... Glenn Beck- but talk about shifting the Overton Window. And no, I'm not talking about the latter's lovely book.

I said it ages ago in another thread but what pretty much happened is that everyone else has gone so far off the edge of what was once the Right Wing that Bill O'Reilly, who was really the first "angry conservative pundit" who laid the groundwork for Beck et al, has become moderate in comparison. His schtick of yelling and cutting peoples mikes off for disagreeing is almost quaint now in the post Glen Beck world of Soros conspiracies. In other words, he hasn't shifted but everyone else on his side has. Remember when we used to post YouTube vids of him being a moron? Don't those seem tame now?

Is it bad that O'Reilly just sounds more like an angry 'common sense' grandpa type now? Like Red Forman with a talk show? I used to think he was scum of the earth but he's just tame now compared to his contemporaries- or even Limbaugh for that matter. Then again I've seen cracks in a few of the Fox pundits lately, as if some are realizing just far off the deep end their politics have gone.

Billo literally believes gays/atheists/Muslims conspire to fight 'American culture', his 'culture war' poo poo is entirely 100% genuine and he legitimately thinks we're destroying America by asking for civil rights and respect. He's also stupid as poo poo, just like, super dumb. He has 'body language experts' on his show to tell us that Obama crossing his arms means he hates America or whatever, and he legitimately doesn't understands tides and thinks they can't be explained. Also he's bffs with Laura Ingram, famous racist, homophobic, sociopath. So yea, he's totally the right's Maddow.

I think the idea behind accusing various media figures of being fakes is to imply that not only are the viewers taking idiocy for wisdom but they're also being tricked, which is a Big Deal to viewers who probably fancy themselves no-bullshit, independent, no-one's-fool, etc. I've honestly never though it was that important. I'd also suspect anyone who did this kind of poo poo professionally and hung in these circles would, at most cynical, have a weird relationship with sincerity. I seriously doubt any of these characters actively disbelieve everything they say and drive home laughing at the audience's expense, however much people want to convince themselves of it. AcidRonin posted:please explain this [sexual activity via felafel].... The entire show setup (and particularly Bill himself) was accused of making up a "sexually hostile work environment" -- sexual harassment and discrimination both by Bill and various other higher ups. Lots of the standard stuff: explicit talk about masturbation, sexual history and habits, offers to have sex, explicit phone calls (even after leaving the show), etc. Read the documents if you want to know the rest. The fact so much is quoted and Fox settled so quickly a lot of people have taken as a pretty clear sign that the woman making the charges wised up and started recording this poo poo. The specific thing about falafels related to a story (see page 16) about Bill calling her (watching pornography; it also sounds like he was drunk) and yammering sexual fantasies and about groping her in a shower. There's a really weird line in the transcript about him taking a "falefel thing" -- there's a '[sic]' so who knows what the gently caress he was supposed to be saying -- and "put it on her pussy [...] a kind of tease business."
