True, and the main benefit of the N7 is that it's much eaier to cram it into their mouths than an iPad is.

Posting from my Nexus 7 before getting the Asus courier to pick it up, and testing the new version of SwiftKey on the forum. It used to want to type multiple 30+ character words, but now it's all good! Awesome! Don't know if anyone else had that issue but apparently it was something to do with SwiftKey and Chrome.

e: update on the returns process in the UK (on my computer now) - called Asus, told them I've got a flickering screen and immediately got a DOA number. Sent that to Ebuyer per their instructions and pretty quickly got a reply saying I can log in to the site to choose a courier collection date. If the exchange happens quickly I should expect a new unit late next week, otherwise by midweek the following week. Fairly painless so far, apart from obviously not having the Nexus 7 for a week or so.

Is there an app that I can use to force SMS to use my google voice number? I am using google voice for phone calls and use text+ or text plus for SMS messages and want to try and drop my phone all together and use the Nexus 7.

I feel it makes sense because the only time I ever can't use my phone is when I am on the road, and I shouldn't be texting or talking on the phone while I am driving anyway.

Hey guys, whoa, big gulps huh? Alright. Well see ya later.
So I had an issue happen yesterday morning to my Nexus 7. It is in a case, but I clumsily dropped it like 3 feet onto the ground while trying to plug it in to charge. Once I picked it up, I could not get it to charge or turn on.

I called Google and they said they have a specialist working on sending a replacement. Last night, I tried plugging it in again and it started charging and I was able to power up.

The issue is that it is taking absolutely forever to charge. The power was off and I plugged it in at about 4% battery at 10 pm last night. I woke up in the morning at 6:30 and it was only charged to 32%. I left it charging all day while I was at work and it's only now at 73%. Basically, it had been charging for 20 hours and has gone from 4% to 73%.

Anyone else run into this slow charging issue?

I don't know if this is the case with the N7, but if you are charging it over USB it's slow as hell. Are you charging it through an outlet?

Are you positive you didn't damage the cable in some way? I recently realized that my six foot cable at work is a POS and would only charge my phone about 3-4% an hour. Once I swapped the cable out, I was back to 1% every couple minutes.

For anyone who has or is thinking about ordering one of those Treegloo cases it seems they are running behind due to the Texas heat and unexpected volume of orders. I ordered mine on the 29th and it had been more than 2 weeks so I emailed them about possible delays and got this in reply:
"Hi Komjuro,

Sorry about the delay! We are running slightly behind schedule, as we have been inundated with orders and are working very to hard to insure each case is perfect before shipping out. The Texas heat has affected our production schedule, as most of the processes for sealing and curing our wood frames are natural and hand-applied.

Pre-orders (July 15-30) have been in production since July 30th, and the production lead time was 1-2 weeks from this release date.

I looked up your order number and we are expecting to ship your order next week. Thank you for your patience!

So Asus is rolling out OTA Jelly Bean updates for the Transformer Pad (TF300). Which is totally awesome... except only yesterday I unlocked my tablet to install CM10. Unlocking the bootloader renders you unable to install the OTA updates.

Oh well, CM10 is pretty awesome. Besides the two times it locked up and rebooted yesterday. :eng99:

Good news is that the JB update is indeed coming with an updated 3.1.1 kernel image that will hopefully let CM10 and the other homebrewed ROMs take advantage of the stability and driver improvements as well.

/\/\/\/\/\/\Oh sweet. The CM10 rom is an unofficial nightly, but I bet it'll get folded into the CM code right quick and then the dev building the unofficial nightlies will add it. Heck he might even fold it in himself.

I was getting tired of Chrome and Good News locking up (plus I wanted Jelly Bean). I figured the update was a month or two away, so switching to a custom rom made sense.

For what it's worth, I think the CM10 reboots were from me changing the WiFi setting to turn off after 15 minutes of sleep mode. It hasn't done it since I changed it to always on (I tend to use it plugged in anyway, so I'm not concerned about running the battery down).

Still it'd be nice to have the official rom on it. Oh well, I have third party apps (Skifta, for instance) that do a good enough job of replacing the default Asus ones and the Simplenote .apk copied over from the stock rom just fine, so I've still got that! :unsmith:

Nope. Unlocking it blacklists your device's serial number and though a bunch of XDA devs (I know, I know) tried to figure out how to relock the device they didn't have any luck.

I don't see the benefits of going with CM10 or custom ROMS, especially on a current gen ASUS tablet. Their flavor of Android is 99% stock, and you can turn off most of the options. When I had a TF300 I didn't see any benefit in going through the hassle of flashing and going down the custom ROM route.

I've left my GSM Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 on full barebones stock as an experiment, and I haven't had any issues where I wished I hadn't let them alone.

Just loving awesome... I broke the glass on my transformer prime.

I had my tablet on my bed, came in from work and took my belt off. I dropped my belt on my bed. The clasp of the belt hit the edge of the screen and shattered that area and made a crack from it to half way up the left side to the edge and from it to half way up the right side to the edge.

Not even talking like a one foot drop. Pics incoming

Belt weighs 140g - Buckle/Clasp weighs 24g

Like I explained above, I was experiencing a lot of force closes in a few apps and I thought that switching to a custom rom would fix it. Had I known that an an official Asus update would be coming out in a week or two (let alone the next day!) I would have simply waited and tried their update first but they deployed it without a warning.

Oh well though, CM10 is pretty slick and I went all way yesterday without any force close popups or reboots so I'm a happy camper.

I love it on the TF201. Mine are about average sized hands, but I think what I like best is the dedicated number section. It's almost big enough for the keys that you could lay it down and type like a computer.

When it's sideways, you can hit the keyboard button left of the spacebar to split the keyboard so it only shows in the corners of the screen. Makes it much easier to thumb-type.

It looks about normal for 3 hours of straight usage. Maybe a bit too much drain but I've noticed it seems to take a few days for the battery calibration to be accurate. See how it performs over the next week. You should be able to get about 5-6 hours of constant heavy usage on the N7.

According to the charts in the OP of the "recommend me a tablet" thread (which I think come from the anandtech review) he should be getting a lot more than that unless he's doing 100% constant 3d gaming at high brightness.

Yeah about 7 hours probably to run it down all the way. All I can think is the software rendering in MX Player was going crazy, but that doesn't explain the pretty stable downward slope even when video wasn't playing.

So my N7 is being a little wonky and I have no idea what's causing it, everything is running abit slow, and sometimes it's taking multiple seconds to do something simple like hit a pause button in a music player.

I checked my running proccesses and it says I'm using over half the ram even though nothing running is taking up very much.

I've reset it twice and it's still happening. :(

Any ideas?
