Idea Factory's name couldn't be more ironic. They poo poo out literally dozens of games per generation and they're all horrible. The mechanics are lame, the execution is lame, the technology is lame. Basically Idea Factory is shorthand for Don't Play This Game. Ever.

At least Gust puts really solid mechanics and well thought-out combat in their crappy anime pedo bullshit games.
The Hakuoki series is developed by Otomate, part of Idea Factory, and the one localized game for PSP ended up being alright. Also I hear the Spectral Force games are decent, although the only one I've actually played is Genesis for DS, which was developed by Neverland instead.

Still, they're definitely a name to avoid for the most part. I wonder how the Atelier game they collaborated with Gust on turned out. Edit: Pretty mixed/medicore it seems, from glancing at the Amazon Japan page.

Eeeh... kind of. Frank moves somewhere between how he did in DR1, and how Chuck moves in DR2. Less like a sofa, but no where near as nimble as Chuck. They also tweaked a bunch of other stuff, like making survivors less self-reliant.

Basically, it makes the game feel a lot more like DR1. If that's your cup of tea (it was mine), you'll dig DR2:OTR. If not, then not.

If you already beat DR2, the game is very similar, and might not be different enough to interest you. If you didn't beat it, or really love Dead Rising, you'll probably dig it.

Not really. In fact, they made escorting survivors more difficult which makes the game more of an exercise in frustration. I prefer the original.

The story is pretty much identical apparently, although the late game/final boss is totally different. The new area is quite cool as well.

OTR has a proper sandbox mode that's fully co-op as well which is awesome. XP and money even carries over so you can just grind in sandbox if you want.

I was just going to ask about those as well and if they were considered safe or not(I think NIS published them over in America). It's a shame so few good RPGs have come out especialy compared to last generation. I know they make up the bulk of my PS1 and PS2 library and my PS3 library just looks so sparse compared to it.

The Atelier PS3 games are incredibly solid, for the most part. You can safely skip Atelier Rorona because it's very bare-bones and only very loosely-connected, but Atelier Totori and Atelier Meruru are great games.

I've been trying to get WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 to work.

It started off needing to update to 1.02 and kept crashing until I switched the system to wired Internet. After updating, it just shows the 'Now Loading" screen for a couple of minutes, then switches over to "Please wait..." and has been sitting there since.

Just wanted to see if anyone has any solutions. Tried searching online and came up empty.

Just to clarify, the one that Idea Factory (or I guess Otomate) worked on is Atelier Elkrone for PSP, not one of the PS3 Atelier games. I've only really heard good things about those, so you should be good there.

I remember thinking that game looked lovely and cheap when it came out for the PS2 launch. Still haven't played it, but the music is awesome. Also, I really like the backgrounds.

But then again, I thought that lovely X-squad game looked the best of the bunch at PS2 launch just from looking at and reading the box.

The last two PS2 games I remember playing before the laser fried were Dragon Quest VIII and Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix Max 2: Tokumori. Both games were awesome. That Dragon Quest games was the first JRPG that really clicked. I guess because it was a simplified fighting system or something.

Grand Prix was an intensely awesome fighting game. Does anyone know if it was released on the Japanese PSN store?

Just nipped out today and got Uncharted 2 and 3. Started with 3 as I understand 2 is better and seems a better idea to play the best last. Having a blast with it and just constantly having to pick my jaw off the floor from how amazing this drat game looks. Absolutely gorgeous.

Just wish the TV I'm playing on didn't have messed up brightness/colour/something. Daylight scenes are a-okay, but for some reason, even with the in-game brightness cranked waaay up, shadows are just pitch black. It makes playing darker scenes almost impossible and I don't know how to fix it (can't find a brightness setting on the TV itself). Ah well, overall it's still stunning.

EDIT: Also, Journey. Completely stunning. The moment in the game as the sun sets? Possibly the most beautiful thing I've seen in a game in a long time. Possibly ever.

PSN is slowly creeping up to a decade of service, which means some of us have screen names years ago that are embarassing in hindsight.

I wish Sony would allow name changes. Wouldn't even mind if they charged for it like Microsoft.

I used to have that option on as well, and the museum robbery in Uncharted 2 was unplayable without the contrast set to maximum. However, I've switched to playing on a monitor, and RGB Full Range looks perfect on it.

It's been available for the PS2 since launch! And yes, it's a really, really good game -- especially the US version that got multiplayer added. Definitely play it with a friend; the split-screen divide actually moves as you play, favoring the person in the lead. Once you get good at it, two people can see-saw back and forth the whole match and it's a ton of fun to watch. The game got unfairly poo poo on at launch by people that never played it, which is a shame.

I've always just known Fantavision as "that game that you will find twelve copies of (for ninety-nine cents) in the bargain basement of every store that sells PS2 games or has ever sold them."

Seriously, I've always thought the game must be terrible given how many used copies are out there and how cheap they are. Most stores seem to want to give it away. Now you're telling me it's good? After my PS2 has been boxed up for forever? :argh:

I have no idea why anyone would do this. 3 is the better game. 2 has the better campaign. Even if you don't care about the order and flow of the story (which you should), the set-pieces and multiplayer in 3 are still far superior, and it is definitely the game to go out on.
