Read somewhere that all DLC is coming for it so I'll take that as the safety light being lit. I'm just watching reviews for this game like a hawk hoping their aren't any Wii U specific glitches or anything.

Hoped I made the right decision skipping the 360/PS3 release for the shiny Wii U one

Hummingbirds are a legal tender.
For those without a pre-order looking to get one Sunday; my local boondocks Walmart (24 hour) will start selling the Wii U at midnight, they did not do pre-orders and as of yesterday they had 12 Wii Us and expected to get another shipment of at least that many before Saturday.

Also, my local Sam's Club will be opening regular time on Sunday at 10:00a and they plan on having Wii Us for sale, but they have no clue how many units they'll have.

Sounds like if you do some calling there will be a lot of stock available to buy at launch.

Yea my plan is to try a local grocery store type thing that has an electronics section, they said they're getting Wii U's and they're first come first serve. Probably will go 30 mins to an hour early just in case but hopefully no one remembers they have an electronics section. Otherwise I might try a few other places like staples and then probably just wait until the next shipment.

edit: Like AC3, Batman, or Rabbids? They're all supposed to be out on 11/13 and Best Buy says you can pick them up on their website.

I picked up AC3 on Wednesday. The Gamestop guy didn't even know they had them in stock until I asked. The manual is a scant three pages long, but it sounds like the gamepad can be used to clear the HUD from the main screen or you can play the whole game off of it if you'd like to free up the tv.

edit: Also, next week is going to be absolutely ridiculous. In addition to the Wii U and AC3, I've got NSMBU and Persona 4 Golden coming in. And if that's not enough, episode 5 of the Walking Dead is also coming out on Tuesday. To make things even better, I have Thursday and Friday off for the holiday. Unless I win the lottery, Christmas is going to be a huge disappointment in comparison.

Anyone heard anything about whether their local Best Buys are getting extra units for people who did not pre-order the system? Every time I call my local store I get someone who seems to have no clue as to what I'm referring to. Still hoping to show up an hour before opening Sunday and grabbing one from them. As much as I hate Best Buy for a myriad of reasons beyond even the usual reason nerds hate Best Buy, they seem to be the only ones running a decent number of midnight launch events that don't gently caress around and say a bunch of dumb bullshit about running out of hours or "you see our allocation blah blah therefore we're not selling any to walkins" like other certain stores, so I guess I will begrudgingly be buying a Wii U from them:

I know most of the stores I called, that took preorders, just said they are getting exactly enough for preorders and there will be none left over. I am only bothering with stores that didn't take preorders, and barring that I am on a gamestop waiting list in position 10 for one.

I had initially planned on getting a Wii U at BJ's (northeastern Sam's Club equivalent), but I haven't seen hide nor hair of the Wii U there. Looks like they finally started selling Wii U games on the website this week, but still no sign of the system itself. It's odd, because they had 3DSes on sale on the website when the thing launched...

You could always try looking for local internet solutions. Some of my friends live in bigger cities that have options beyond Bell/Rogers who give unlimited bandwidth for competitive prices. Fortunately for me, my plan from Bell is over a decade old and grandfathered from a time where they legit gave unlimited bandwidth. They desperately try to get me to change my plan by sending me pamphlets every month about how much I can "save" if I switch to their new bullshit capped plans, which promote Netflix and other huge data streaming things in the same page :v:

Who has done a hyped up console midnight launch in a big city before? I know it's pretty local-store-dependent, but between the big retailers like Best Buy, WalMart, Target, etc. what is the best bet for a decent experience? GameStop, honestly. You are around at least 25% like minded individuals, the rest negative spread. There is a really low chance you will meet someone worth talking to standing in line freezing your rear end off at BestBuy or Target.

To counter Edoraz, I went to a 3DS launch at Best Buy and it was quite a lot of fun, and since it was for the 3DS there were a ton of nerds there. It was also Nintendo-sponsored and a radio DJ was giving out free 3DS games and they had people from a temp modelling agency showing off demo units (and doing silly little chants and marches :3: ). I'd prefer to go to GameStop as previously mentioned, but they can't be bothered to give me any coherent plans or guarantee I'll get a console when I show up.

Do to a last minute urge to have one I drove about 45 minutes out of town to go to a rural Wal Mart when the Wii launched. Had to wait in line for about 5 to 6 hours but multiplayer Mario Kart DS, and a book helped pass the time. They didn't start turning people away until about 10pm if I recall correctly. Might be a safe bet as stores in urban and suburban areas will likely be more populated. Just call ahead to make sure they are getting a decent allotment.

Also being a Saturday night launch be ready for an awful crowd of loud teens and the kind of parents who wait in line for hours to buy their kid that year's hot xmas item.

All I remember from doing 2 overnighters for wiis (one for me and for my brothers) was that the gamestop one on black friday was ok (I could hear emergency vehicles entering / leaving the best buy area a quarter mile a way twice that night), and the people at the target one the weekend before christmas had some generally tolerable older folks getting it for kids (the assholes started comin in at 6am, even though we already knew how many there would be from the manager the night before).

Release night target was just a long line of old fat dudes waiting to flip this poo poo. I would not recommend best buy, if their black friday crowd is any indication.

The gamecube midnight release wasn't bad at walmart, we got to sit next to layaway on red stools for a few hours. People showed up significantly earlier for the wii one when I swung by to check.
