I actually think that the stuff causing people problems might be totally unrelated to unlocking early. I used an Australian VPN to unlock early, set steam to offline, logged out of the VPN, and everything works as it should. I don't even have to run UPlay in offline mode (though I haven't experienced any server issues). I've been running through Steam this whole time and haven't needed to use the fix from the OP. So ymmv.

Seriously it's too easy. This game is balanced in a really strange way. You have to go way far afield to get craft items at the beginning. Until you do you get hosed because you can only carry two spare magazines of ammo and no grenades. Once you get that taken care of and a few weapons and taatuus under your belt, you run around murdering everyone with silenced weapons and instakills.

The silenced MP5/M14/Remington 700 combo is just broken, you get a short range spray-n-pray, a midrange murder weapon with usable sights (:wtc: M1911) that barely uses any ammo, and a long range headhunting weapon, all of which can be used sparingly without alerting anyone. Maybe it's just that I haven't advanced far enough in the plot, but that combo murders everything, alerts no one, and leaves you with a slot free for flamethrower/RPG/torch. Honestly it reminds me a lot of GUN, in that the beginning is a struggle to get the weapons and upgrade them, but once you do you are an unstoppable one-man murder machine (which is not really that fun).

The most annoying thing so far is driving cars, I get tons of enemy patrols even inside friendly territory, and as soon as I finish killing one the next patrol drives up. :psyduck: I guess you can just drive by and leave them alone, but at some point you have to ditch the car and do whatever it is you came to do.

According to the pop-up hints, yes. I was tempted on the burn the drug fields mission because I kept running out of ammo and more guys kept spawning in the village, and I was also getting sick of Skrillex (I assume that was him - I've never heard any of his songs before, but the way he kept saying his name was a hint), but then I found the weapons cache. :haw:

How's the pc version doing regarding steam support? I've googled it but the details seems sort of vague, its either steam or something called Uplay, but it could be both for all I know.

FC3 is a Uplay game that can be downloaded and updated with Steam, but you can put Uplay offline and even close Steam. See the OP.

As previously said, Steam handles downloading it and updating it, but you have to run a uPlay launcher before you can start the game and uPlay handles the entire online component. There also doesn't appear to be any Steam achievements.

It's worth mentioning that the game doesn't require Steam by default. The only way to have the game on Steam is to buy it on Steam.

Ending talk?

I really didn't like the ending. While everything built up for a very solid finish, it just didn't happen. Apparently Citra is insane, and her whole Warrior speech is just extreme fanaticism, great.

The end choice was equally unfulfilling. If Citra really wanted Jason to let go of his past, uh, it was already going to happen, that's why they built the boat, that's why they've been in the cave for the entire game. And he was originally totally down for them leaving and him staying until she went crazy and decided he needed to kill them. I couldn't think of a single reason why you would choose Citra, then again I guess a few people did in this thread so whatever. It was equally confusing because I KNOW I'm the best goddamn person on the island. I've killed every single person that was thrown at me, conquered all the outposts, and the Insanity/Airstrip mission alone showcase how powerful I am. How does killing my past prove anything after all that?

I did however like the Hoyt = Templar/Jason = Assassin connection, and am a bit hopeful they go with that in the next Assassins Creed. Hoyt's speech about how he SHOULD be in control, and he SHOULD be able to do whatever he wants due to his group/the power they wield was amusing, especially when he made a slight mention to an Apple. Even better was the removal of Jason's ring finger, and Hoyt mentioning it was ironic. I'm totally ok with the Far Cry series becoming the "modern day Assassins Creed" series, although more likely is they just threw them in as references to the other game, to put them in the same universe, but won't actually do anything with them, especially since Jason can apparently die in the Citra ending.

If the game had ended right after the Riley rescue, I think I would have been much happier.

Yeah I'm a bit dissapointed with that ending. The first island was pure awesome and the antagonist was always an inch away. On the second island it was just too little build up. I've seen that more people than me have noticed the similarities to "The Beach", which turned out to be even more true with the flashback drugs. The first island is a "what if" the beach character got badass and I loved that. The second island ventures into "Heart of Darkness" and doesn't do it as well. I also think the second island looks and feels pretty boring and has to few missions. Hoyt wasn't as established as Vaas and didn't really get the time to be.

The game is great and unlike FarCry2 actually fun. But I do feel they have some ways to go the get the story right to match the great gameplay.

I did this yesterday and have had zero problems. There are also free VPN sites, but this is the one gibbed recommended.
Note the only reason I recommended it is because it had Australia servers available, which is no longer required.

I'm really trying to get into this game, but it's starting to grate on me that they give me this really fun arsenal of weapons and more than half of the missions I've picked up have required me to stealth around and use my knife.

Even when it's not required, they heavily incentivize stealthing around, too.

Eh, I have xp coming out of my ears. With a headshot being only 5 less than a basic takedown I get in gun battles all the time without much downside.

The pirates did a really god job of activating alarms for me, as soon as they found a body they tended to hit the button.

What I've found is that Hoyt's PMC's do a lot more readily agressive things when alerted. I haven't been spotted by anyone at this outpost I'm clearing right now, but a jeep has drifted in, they've found bodies and whenever they think they've found me they throw grenades at where they think I am. They've got pretty close sometimes.

Okay, so I killed Vass, but in a drug trip. I'm assuming I killed him in real life too, but did I really? The game never showed me actually killing him, and I didn't bring Citra his head or anything definitive like that, so is he actually dead or did I spare him? I'm not really sure what the gently caress this game is trying to tell me anymore.

And apparently I'm staying on the island with Citra and not going back with my friends after everything is over?! :psyboom:

Yeah, i noticed that too. It seems that the PMC is a lot smarter overall, and will try and use some form of tactics. For example i got caught at an outpost, and ran to the second floor. I dropped a mine on the stairs leading up. Which killed 2 guys chasing me. The other pmc's stopped trying to go up the stairs and decided to lob grenades up to where i was. Killing me.

They seem to have introduced a little bit of situational animations, though not entirely, I mostly get the broken thumb or wrist animations when I take fall damage.
