That what I have it on and I'm only getting sound from my two front speakers. Like I said too, I can't even force my receiver to do any other surround modes like Pro Logic II. The weird thing is that all the speaker lights are lit up, there is just no sound coming from any of the speakers except for the two front ones. The only thing that has worked so far has been to switch to Stereo, then turn on Pro Logic II on my receiver. In the options where you set it to surround, what does the "example" (or whatever it's called) do for you? For me it plays a chime on each of the satellites.

How the gently caress has NOA not released the Sonic Racing patch yet? The game has a myriad of literally unplayable events and apparently they've just been sitting on the patch for about two weeks now. I'm guessing this poo poo will just be par for the course with NOA's online support.

So I just joined club Nintendo and now I've got coin fever. I've got a Wii console that I bought last year and never registered. I tried to add it to my account with the serial number alone, but it needs the PIN that came in the box. Box is long gone. Is there any hope of getting those sweet sweet coins?

It would not surprise me if they're just waiting until they have the Nintendoland issues fixed up and they're going to push out the SASRT patch at the same time. I'm sure soon enough, they will learn that this is not a good idea, but I think that sounds like a Nintendo thing to do. In fact, didn't they do something similar with patches for 3DS games (as in, they were sitting on a bunch from other companies and just didn't put them out until they had the Mario Kart 7 patch ready)?

I just got off the phone with Nintendo technical support, the person I was speaking with said I was the first case he heard of that the surround not working properly. He made up a ticket for it but couldn't say whether or not it would get escalated, just that someone might take a look at it and provide some sort of information to me. I guess I'm stuck with 2.0 sound. Just for clarification so I know I'm not crazy, but Netflix, New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendoland are supposed to have 5.1 surround right?

I have kinda of an odd question. How much of RPGs do you think that Wii U will have in the end? I almost exclusively play RPGs or games with RPG elements - stuff like Deus Ex: HR - and PS1 and 2 were the best consoles for me, mostly because they had a lot of stuff from that particular genre. PS3 has been a kind of an dissappointment for me because it didn't carry on that fad. How much of RPGs Wii had? I've heard that Xenoblade was pretty great and The Last Story was alright, but were there anything else good? What do you think will happen to Wii-U?

I made the list a few pages back but I felt the best of the Wii RPGs were: - Little King's Story - Muramasa: The Demon Blade - Rune Factory: Frontier - Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - Monster Hunter Tri (wait for the Wii-U HD version) - The Last Story - Xenoblade Chronicles - Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon Not including Virtual Console or WiiWare of course.

I guess I'm stuck with 2.0 sound. It depends on the content for Netflix. A lot of content doesn't have it, and the hardware simulates surround. (Hardware meaning Receiver) Not sure about 5.1 on Super Mario. It's a 2D platform game. There isn't anything going on in the 3D world that would make the game want that capability since there is no need to have those sounds come from one direction. What I would do to test it is rent a copy of Zombie U or purchase a copy. Concentrate your character in a certain location, and spin the character around in circles using your controller. If the sounds move from speaker to speaker, your surround is working correctly.

Well I can pass the connection test but I get an error when I try to download the big system update. I tried manually entering the info but I'm not savvy with that stuff and couldn't figure out the ip address stuff. I set that to auto obtain and it still passed test but no go on update. At one point it said can't connect to update server so I'm hoping there's a problem with the server.

I think as a genre in general the kind of game you're talking about is less prevalent on ANY console -- at least compared to the PS1/PS2 era you mentioned

I could have sworn Nintendoland uses the center speaker for Monita's voice but it's dead silent. I am not fussed though, I think it's just Nintendo being weird because there definitely is a difference between front and back speakers while I play.

Has anyone here tried Arkham City for Wii U and PS3? I loved AA but never got around to getting AC and I'd like to try it now, so I'm trying to decide which version to get. I did some searches on comparisons, but all I got was results comparing graphics, all of them saying PS3 is better. Are there any other differences between the two versions?

OK this sound poo poo is driving me nuts. First of all, what order are the five chimes in the system menu supposed to be playing, because I can't find an answer for that. Secondly, my receiver (Sony STR-DH520) supports 7.1 LPCM via HDMI and everything else I got hooked up to it via HDMI works just fine I should be set, right? For me, the chimes go front left, front right, back right, back left and then all at once. The center speaker stays silent though, which is odd as hell. I even found a guy on GameFAQs who posted the same thing (with the same receiver). This wouldn't be as hard to figure out if Nintendo had actually made any of their games 5.1 but I don't have anythine here to test it out with.

So I'm kinda sad about that. Western RPG's are making a bit of a revival lately, at least on PC, but JRPG's are much more prevalent on handheld platforms nowadays, due to the cost of producing that sort of game for one of the major consoles. The vast majority we do get (at least on PS3) are quickie Idea Factory otaku-pandering crap with a few big budget titles like FF XIII thrown in. In fact the best RPG's of the last few years (Xenoblade and Last Story) are on the major console with the least overhead, development wise.

JRPGs are easy to start and understand and when you progress, the complexity of the system starts to show itself, like in Persona 4 or FF7. In western RPGs you tend to have this feeling that you are starting a science project when you start the game. I don't like anime and even though JRPGs usually are anime as all hell, a lot of stories in western RPGs are just rehashes of The Lord of The Rings. Other version is that the story revolves around different countries or races and the political disputes between them, which means you need to learn A LOT about these imagininary cultures, which can be a little tiring for my tastes. Oftentimes the cultures tend to fall on the typical warrior-race, magic-using race and the versatile human-race categories, so I never got too much into that stuff. JRPGs are much more simplified and more character driven stuff, and sometimes the anime nonsense makes them more interesting: Find a murderer inside the TV? Let's go! Policenaut posted:Then your mind apparently missed a lot, there were a ton of RPGs and RPG-esque games on PS3. This time, actually, I'm more super picky than ignorant though: I don't really like Fallout or Oblivion or Dark Souls or Dragon's Dogma and stuff like Tales of series is so anime that I get squeamish. Basically I want stuff that is eerily similiar to FF7, Disgaea or Persona series. I'm playing hard to get here. Stuff like Sleeping Dogs gets a pass because it just is so good. Edit: Another thing about PC games is that I just want to pop a game in and play. For example Steam is driving me nuts from time to time.
