Speaking of S.O.S. on the DVD. Am I crazy or were there more scenes in it? That one and Clock Tower felt a little longer to me but then again I haven't seen them since they were posted.

Ninja Gaiden, S.O.S., Wing of Madoola and Battle Golfer Yui on the Discotek DVD are all the extended DVD versions from the original Japanese sets.

Finally watched the S.O.S. episode from the DVD last night. Once again I'm impressed by Arino's patience; I would have come perilously close to smashing something trying to play that and watching the other NPCs struggle. Yikes.
When the TV version was translated and posted, someone brought up that it looked similar to rescuing the survivors in Dead Rising. After watching the DVD version, I think it looks a lot worse in SOS since I don't remember Dead Rising having parts where the survivors have to do anything remotely close to platforming (although, I didn't rescue that many survivors when I played DR).

With that said, I wouldn't mind having a remake/spiritual sequel to SOS as long as it does a better job with the NPC AI and/or has a different system setup so it's not as punishing (but nothing too easy either). It looks like a great SNES game, but the execution of the AI is what kills it for me.

VVV I could not imagine why they thought a 3D sequel would be fun. :psyduck:

I adore the concept and would be all for a sequel that isn't the actual sequel.

Personally, I'd be fine with a complete moratorium on NPC escort quests in games, since I can't think of a single one that I've ever enjoyed. Heck, I'm hard pressed to think of one that wasn't straight up frustrating.

Who would have thought that revolutionary advances in follower AI like "Ashley will hide behind you when you draw your gun" and "Ashley will duck if you point your gun at her so you can shoot at what is behind her" would make escort quests better.

I can't wait to watch that Parappa episode.

I was just as excited about Battletoads and that didn't let me down.

My favorite episode of all time is definitely S.O.S. I mean just watching it you can feel the frustration of trying to collect all of those passengers and lead them to the end. And the interactions between them are hilarious. I never knew there was a PSX version.

I run Discotek/Eastern Star by the way. I've been lurking here for awhile and decided to register. Thank you for all your support on the DVD set. I tried very hard to make it as good as possible with what we were given since I love Game Center CX so much.

She was also invincible when enemies tried carrying her off so you didn't have to worry about killing her with friendly fire while frantically trying to save her.

Welcome to the forums. Your company has made a lot of really neat licensing decisions and I hope you guys can continue that trend (profitably) for a long time.

I was going to mention this anyway, but I noticed today on my roku I can get a few dubbed episodes from the DVD set on the channel "Asian Crush". Amusingly they are in the "TV & Sports" section, which is made up solely of GCCX and car magazine stuff. I assume those are through Discotek somehow?

Edit: After looking at the website again I remembered that Discotek did a release for the movie with the best title ever: Mikadroid: Robokill Beneath Disco Club Layla

Nice to see you here. :)

I'd like to personally vouch for Discotek's customer service. When I got the GCCX DVD set through Amazon, I noticed that it came with no disc 1 and two disc 2s. I e-mailed Discotek about it and offered to send my box in, and within 4 minutes I got a reply saying they'd just mail me the disc I was missing. I just got that disc in the mail yesterday. Fantastic service and response time both.

Thanks for giving GCCX such a good DVD release. This show really deserves the best, and Im glad someone who actually loves it managed to get the rights.

Also about Parappa: I really wasnt expecting the episode to be so loving good, but drat it really delivers. The game is super short and only a few stages long, but it somehow managed to be really amusing the whole way through.

I played that game recently, and if Arino is going to have any chance of beating it he is going to- ATTACKED BY WORMS!

But seriously though, Sweet Home is an interesting game as it was the first survival horror game of note on consoles. The guys behind Resident Evil said it was an important inspiration for them, so that is some lineage right there.

:neckbeard: Thank you so much (and more please). :)

S.O.S. is, next to Ninja Gaiden, the best introductory episode on the set to show somebody to get them hooked. Arino's initial confidence in "the geezer" is so good, and the game is very obviously frustrating. It covers all the bases of a good ep.

This has happened since at least the LaserDisc days; one Anime studio was specifically asked to use Laserdisc's double-sided nature and put the dub on one side and the subbed version on the other to circumvent this (LaserDiscs supported two switchable audio tracks and crudely supported soft subs by embedding them in the Closed Captions track)
