Someone recommended The Room at the end of the last thread, and goddamn it's good.

Is The Room good enough to buy twice, or should I hold off until I get an iPad?

Dewgy posted:Is The Room good enough to buy twice, or should I hold off until I get an iPad? Wait until you get an iPad. Not because it isn't great (because oh my god it is lovely), but because it is less than 2 hours long and you don't want to waste that experience on a tiny screen. Best to wait and enjoy it more. Sadly you only get to play it for the first time once. I hope they make lots more, instant purchase from me if they do.

Homerun Battle 2 has some pretty cool new multiplayer modes that the original didn't have. Theres a 4 player mode where you compete for objectives, and other players can join mid game, and a versus survival mode where you can use obstacles to mess the other player up. Its definitely worth checking out for anyone who loved the first one. This seems to be very popular in Japan and Korea, and finding a match is always instantaneous.

I am loving the hell out of the presentation in Bastion. The narration is awesome and the game art/design is top notch. A loving steal at $0.99.

Saturday Morning RPG is pretty damned fun. I didn't think I'd like something so linear, but the battle system/charm more than makes up for it. Are the other episodes as good as the first? I'm considering getting the deluxe pack and playing the whole damned thing.

Do we start getting new apps again tonight? I never know when the iTunes freeze runs from/until. I really can't make my mind up about Knights of Pen and Paper, it seems OK in short bursts but feels like a mega-grind for any longer playtime, however, I hear the classes you unlock further into the game make it a lot more fun?

Maybe I'm alone in this, but as far as videogames go any interest in best games of the year ends at Dec 31st. Even disregarding Apple's App Store lockdown no good games are released in the last bit of the year. After Xmas and New Year it's time to look forward to new stuff rather than look back. Kotaku are just now starting their GotY coverage and it seems ludicrously late. I think it'd be a great thing to have, but done at the right time. Start it first week of December with it ending at Xmas etc.

I generally have no interest in playing big console-style games on my iPhone. I love the Mass Effect series though, and I see that "Mass Effect Infiltrator" is on sale. Would anyone here recommend it?

I've played through most of it on my (Android) phone, and I dig it. It's not mind blowing or anything but I think it's definitely got one of the better touch-screen control schemes for a shooter/action game. If you're into the ME universe it's definitely a fun little game.

Speaking of Mass Effect: Infiltrator, EA is having a slot machine promotion on their site. You're guaranteed to win an app every time. You can spin once a day. I've won Tetris and ME from it so far.

It asks you your country, and sends you a code for the right store. The only iPad app seems to be Mass Effect, nothing else is universal.

Hey Goons! TouchArcade is looking to recruit some freelance reviews writers for the site. Reviews freelancing with TA is a pay-per-publication position and there aren't any minimum or maximum number of reviews being expected. With that said, we're looking for folks with the time and motivation to stay engaged with the team and write reviews on a regular basis. Prospective applicants also need to have some actual industry experience -- whether you've written for another site, school newspaper, blog, whatever (important for the application process). Also, it goes without saying that we're looking for folks that follow the iOS gaming scene and also have a history of PC/console gaming. Finally, as is the standard with most freelancing positions, the ability to monitor your own workload and follow through on assigned projects is a must. Here are some of the perks for writing for TA:
I've been writing for TouchArcade for almost a year and a half and it's really been a great experience. The editors are pretty chill, feedback is available if you're not certain about something you're writing, and it's a great opportunity get your work published on a large website and build your portfolio. Most importantly, it's just fun. If you're interested, check out the OP at this thread for the formal application requirements. Also feel free to send me a PM if you have any other questions.

This game makes you better at (non-mobile) FIFA.

Mr EFord posted:Hey Goons! Final Fantasy Tactics is pretty good so far; it runs much faster than the PSP version did, although the random crashing is disappointing to see. It also seems to insist on zooming in to 120% at the start of the map, meaning that I have to adjust it at the start of each one; is there a way to fix that, or do you just grin and bear it?

Keep in mind, willingness to stick around is the most important qualification. I've been dealing with this really irritating trend recently of people just vanishing shortly after I get their paperwork all set up. I think three of our best writers had zero pre-TouchArcade games writing experience beyond just being forum posters here and other places.
