Your best bet would be to stay on Beginner mode until you figure the maps out - trader locations, good places to defend, item pickup spots etc. Also, Sharpshooter is a good beginner class - you always start with a 9mm pistol, and being a Sharpshooter will give it a nice damage boost.

As far as easy maps for new players go, West London is a decent one. Think of it as a square, with a trader located at each corner.

Also, keep in mind that your class levels will rise based on your actions, not what class you pick. For instance, a Firebug who heals teammates using the syringe will gain Medic experience.

1. Stick with the team.

2. Buy guns that work with your perk. Ie buy assault rifles if you're Commando.

3. Fleshpounds (glowy guys) are weak to explosives.

4. The Lever Action Rifle is your best friend.

5. Don't worry too much about playing "optimized" builds from the start. Beginner and Normal are easy enough that you can experiment and do just fine as long as you have at least one on-perk weapon. Its only in the last two difficulties that you're restricted somewhat.

6. Go for headshots whenever you can. They'll wreck enemies very fast.

7. In the server browser, find the difficulty selector and choose either Beginner or Normal. By default, the browser is set to go to any difficulty, which means you can easily end up in a ridiculously hard difficulty.

8. Pubbies are dumber than usual because of the influx of idiots that came thanks to the current sale. If you're constantly getting wiped and not having fun, stop playing for a bit and wait until either the sale is done or almost done. That's usually enough time for terrible teammates to drop the game for good.

That's all pretty good advice, some of which I've already been doing. It's nice to know I'm not inherently terrible. Didn't know about the Fleshpounds explosives weakness though, I'll have to keep that in mind. The lever Action Rifle is so far my favorite gun, although is their anything I should think about switching it to at any point?

if you are playing Sharpshooter, learn to love the crossbow. If you hit them in the head, it can usually insta-kill most enemies. At higher levels you can take down most Fleshpounds with one bolt. Try to get a crossbow around wave 5.

Depends on what you want to do, what difficulty you are playing on and what perk level you are. I didnt play sharpshooter in a while but I think headshots with LAR will stun scrake and couple more headshots will kill it. Anyway what Im saying that getting double .44s and LAR and going all Billy the Kid on zeds can be very fun.

No one cat should have all that power
Sharpshooter has lots of very versatile combos. M14/LAR is my personal favorite and can easily take down anything the game throws at you as long as you don't get unlucky, but depending on lag and assorted scrake hitbox bugs you can get thrown off kind of easy. Crossbow, Mk.23, and even offperk stuff like shotguns/assault rifles can be surprisingly effective.

Granted, you need level 6 Support for it. But when I can, I like carry a Mac10 for sirens and husks. A hunting shotgun for crowds and big damage, and the crossbow for softening up Scrakes and Fleshpounds with a headshot or two before unloading both barrels into them to take them down.

The Mac10 or an MK23s are a great weapon to just carry around for thinning out small fry if you're a beserker and need something to pick off things at range. a Demo that needs to kill stuff up close, or a commando that needs to conserve your Assault rifle ammo for things other than crawlers, clots and gorefasts.

Don't forget to change the graphic options to use the 2D crossbow scope instead of the 3D one, it's a lot better.

The Crossbow and Handcannon are also good choices for a Sharpshooter. A Crossbow headshot is pretty much a death sentence for anything weaker than a Fleshpound, while the Handcannon has enough power to quickly decap enemies like the Husk and Siren and can wipe the floor with trash. I usually run those two weapons, mostly to save pubbies from being wiped by Scrakes. You can also replace the Handcannon with a .44 Revolver and MK23, but I really haven't tried that one.

I had this issue too and it's bloody annoying.

go to Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\killingfloor\System\ and open a file called User.ini.

Go down the list until you see Tilde=ConsoleToggle, delete the ConsoleToggle part, or cut it and paste it onto a different key on the keyboard, I'm using F2.

I actually tried that first of all. I've edited User.ini before when binding the syringe and welder to separate keys. Right now it looks like this:

code:
Tab=ConsoleToggle
Tilde=
but I still have the same issue.

Instead of playing Hard like usual, I'm helping newbies in Normal as a Medic and it's really fun. Helping guide people like level 0 Berserkers, a level 0 Demo without an explosive weapon and a level 2 Commando to victory by constantly healing them, tanking Scrakes/Fleshpounds and giving them money to buy good weapons is fun and challenging. I managed to help a team win Suburbs even though they constantly picked bad spots to hole up in, which was very satisfying. :3:

If you're getting pissed off at the level 0 to 2 newbies popping up in Hard, Suicidal and HoE, give it a shot. At minimum, you'll get a shitload of healing points for leveling up Medic.

"I've only played Christmas KF" tip: the Siren sounds really different and are hard to make out in the crowd. I thought it was another player with some kind of chain gun. It also took me a while to notice Scrakes, since in Christmas land they're highlighted so drastically.

What servers does everyone play on? The ones in the OP seem dead now. I realize the bulk of the people have moved on but I'm looking for people that know how to play and won't go sharpshooter and just run off into the fog to die. I'm lvl 4 with support and medic and close to 4 with a few, so I'm about to move up to hard mode. This is me if you want to play some KF.

Sorry for necro, but I have a question regarding one of the achievements. I'm planning to write a "how to get KF achievements" guide for the official wiki, but one in particular has stumped me:

quote:

Tis Better to Give than to Receive

Drop 3 Tier 3 weapons for others (with which they kill at least one Christmas Zed).
What do they mean by 'tiers'? Like, primary weapons? Or is there some kind of hierarchy for weapons that neither the game nor the wiki mentions?

Yes, weapons are organized into tiers based on their quality, it made a bit more sense before they added all these new weapons. This should be the list you're looking for.

Hey, does anyone know if the weapons that are kind of between perks help level up both? Like, does the trenchgun also count towards shotgun damage/ get the benefits of playing support? I already know that the M4 M203 doesn't count towards stalker kills which sucks because I used it for dozens of games before I realized.

Also, I've always enjoyed helping out new players here and I'm compiling a guide to post that gives basic tips and advice for each perk but the problem is I don't actually play as berzerker or firebug that often (it's kind of telling that I'm still berzerker lvl 0 while every other perk is at least lvl 4). Any veteran firebug/berzerkers got solid advice for newbies that I could put in?

The store has the perk icons next to weapons that level your perk. The store is also sorted with your perk's weapons at at the top, at least in games I've played.

When it comes to support specialist using the trenchgun - it won't progress support specialist levels for you, you won't gain the damage buff, but you will gain the increased penetration. I'm fairly confident when I say that no guns will level two perks at once.

It's a bit out of date, but the 2nd post has exactly that. With the new firebug weapons, I'd say that zerker is now one of the most specialized/map dependant classes. On higher difficulties you just can't soak the damage the zeds are putting out, so unless it's a wide open map like farm or mountainpass where you can run away from everything zerker will be tough. For newbies just starting out just tell them to grab a katana and stick close to the medic :)
