Well bahumbug. I guess 30fps is just apart of the console life. I was not aware about the GOW thing was downloads and separate discs. That makes a lot of financial sense.

No need to put it in for an RPG, keep making it look as pretty as possible! (If square does get around to FF15 on the PS4 it will be the most amazing thing we've seen)

So like, for anyone who cares to enlighten me... (and this may be a silly question given it's possible simplicity) what is the story with Bit Trip? (Specifically Runner 2) I'm playing the demo and it feels like an Endless runner (minus the Endless) but well made and charming as gently caress. Is that all there is to it? The demo doesn't really indicate how big/long/evolving the game may be. I know there are other bit trip games. Are they just games in a singular universe or do they tie in in some kind of meta arc? Just curious. I almost sorta kinda wanna buy Runner 2.

The different Bit.Trip games have stylistic connections. I don't think the series can be said to have canon. I've never played Runner 2, but Runner 1 was a cool game; yeah, it's an endless runner, but like the other games in the series, it has a bunch of rhythm game influence in there.

Also, (just bought it) whats the deal with leaderboards? If my speed is constant, all I have to do is get all the items, not die or mess up... to "perfect" a level, so what makes one guy have a better score on a leaderboard than another? Is there a nuance I may be missing?

I just don't get recommending right off the bat to someone coming in after the fact to play 3-4 games of a series where it's not really strong storywise and the gameplay is repetetive across all the titles. If you've been playing the series for years, okay, sure, play new ones as they come out, but I don't think it makes sense for someone picking up a PS3 in 2013 to play 3 platformers from 2007-2010 unless they just can't get enough platformer/shooters. Ive been playing the new Tomb Raider off of a rental and after playing for a while, I still prefer Uncharted over it. While the combat was changed to resemble uncharted much more, it is just too easy. I still think it is a good game, but it kind of sucks that the Tomb Raiding part of it is pretty simplistic.

I just wrapped up Tomb Raider last night and was left feeling pretty underwhelmed. I enjoyed my time with it, but like you said it is just way too easy. I expected more of a challenge in the optional tombs at the very least, given that they are optional and not required for story progression. Instead, each tomb is just one simple puzzle that takes all of 30 seconds to figure out. Especially when Lara's "instinct" vision highlights all the important elements to solving the puzzle, eliminating the need for any trial and error. I felt the story kind of sputters and dies about halfway through as well. Didn't really find any of the characters engaging enough to care about. Definitely no one as charismatic as Uncharted's cast. Decent rental, but I'd advise against paying full price.

I've been really enjoying TR, although I loved all the others too for the most part (and Uncharted). The game's not difficult but I don't didn't really expect it to be - if it used TRI's difficulty model there would just be two kinds of jumps and tons of falls to your death and you would have to manually save every so often or lose progress. I would love it if they had done that, but I can imagine all the bitching we would have to wade through about "Crystal Dynamics is too stupid to figure out autosave". I've been stuck in the Cistern level for a few weeks in the original and I've forgotten where I was in that level progress-wise, so I either need to restart or retrace my steps. I enjoy it for the puzzle complexity but I can't say I don't enjoy the new TR for omitting it and just saying "let me show you to all the cool things I have to offer, here navigate this". The feeling of turning on the game and immediately progressing to new places instead of saying "alright let's try this boulder sprint to backflip shimmy for the 9th time." I think they're both great in their own way. It might not be worth $60 to you if you only play through games once though, although I haven't tried the multiplayer. I've heard it's similar to UC3 but slightly less polished, I've already sunk enough time into UC3 MP that I don't want to get addicted to this one too. I'm happy with the $50 steam price though, I'm about 8 hours in and I don't get the sense I'm near the end really. I would say, old TRs have logic puzzles that typically involve pushing blocks and pulling switches and running through things. The new TR prefers physics puzzles involving weights, smashing things and navigating ledges. The old TRs' combat was a chore with basically one enemy that came in different sizes and skins (that tries to bump into you) and more difficulty just meant faster/does more damage. (with the exception of T-Rex and bosses) The new TR has more fun-oriented combat with basically one enemy that has different weapons and behaviors, but you're frequently placed behind them or near explosive barrels or other environmental sugar that lets Lara feel like a badass with ease. Both have their appeal, but if TRI-3 played like the over-the-shoulder-aim style combat would be trivial/non-existent.

I came into the new Tomb Raider fairly fresh.. I played Tomb Raider 1 back in the day and that's about it. The combat is definitely one of the high points for the new game, fun is an apt way to describe it. So I wasn't coming into it looking for anything specific, I really had no bias based on old entries in the franchise or anything like that. In the end I'd say it's a good game, just not a great game.

I think what Tomb Raider accomplishes is adequate. I find the combat much too simplistic for my tastes but adequate at getting the job done. The puzzles feel like they were ripped out of Half Life 2 however. It has some interesting set pieces. I guess you would enjoy it more if you don't compare it to Uncharted, but that is hard to do since it is obviously inspired by Uncharted. I am probably the only one who thinks the game would have been much better off if they had just dropped the whole "survivor" angle to start with since it doesn't really seem like it fits the character you play as other than a handful of times.

Does Tomb Raider do that thing where the percentage it states to you on your save game is the percentage where 100% = I finished the game's plot or is 100% meant to be where you collected every item and found every secret? I got up to (spoilers, sort of?) where I saved Sam and the gang and fought my way out of the burning fortress. It says 43% but it kinda feels like late game. How much more do I have of just the story? I'm trying to power through it before I start God of War...
