I just saw a really skeevy commercial for Tommy Lee Jones' new movie, Emperor. Instead of actually advertising the movie they just talked about how this was TLJ's first movie since Lincoln.

Yeah I saw that commercial too. They must have no other way to sell the movie, because it looks like a mega-turd.

Jack Green. He also shot Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, and some of the better looking comedies from the last decade. Serenity's blocking is still Whedon's typical mix of bland shot, reverse-shot and overly gimmicky VFX enabled long-takes, but Jack Green exposes and lights it very nicely. David Boyd did some very nice work with the TV series to, given the production's limitations.

Unforgiven's such a great looking movie. I really dig how the interiors are lit and shot.

Was it ever explained why humanity had abandoned Earth for several miillenia, and why seemingly every species on the planet transformed into demon monster killing machines since they've been gone?

Judging from the new trailer it seems to be weather related. There's a short scene where you see the weather change almost instantly

Maybe they screwed up the the planet so it wasn't feasible for humans to remain there and then the survivors all left while the animals left on Earth evolved into beastlier versions of themselves to survive :haw:

I just dodged a horrid job as a production functionary for a movie 3 weeks behind schedule. Sources on the project show that, on the initial ride up to start filming, the mood is "pissed".

Can't imagine the pennies they'll throw at post.

Uh-oh. I accidentally started editing a Blade Runner trailer for fun. I've got an audio track down pat I think, but have yet to tackle much of the video. Having never edited for the trailer format before, does anyone know of any good online resources?

The falling robot shot at the end is brilliant too. I thought "well there's no way they're going to be able to replicate a slow motion shot of a giant robot flying through the air and a bunch of cars" but there it is.

It looks good, but man I can already tell they're going to WAY overdo the "Hit Girl is SOOOO crass lol!" angle. It was a fun surprise for me in the first one, but now it just is starting to get cringeworthy.

If you're unaware, that trailer is a type of parody called "swedeing" that popped up after Be Kind Rewind. There's a few good ones out there and a lot of awful ones.

The trailer story seems to follow the comic pretty closely except for a thing here and there. So aside from the really horrible poo poo, I think they're just going to go where the comic went.

As an aside, is that movie any good? I remember the trailer for it being really fun and I thought it was a neat concept. But I naturally forgot about it and I've never heard anyone talk about it except when explaining sweded movies.

Yeah. The first movie diverged only because Mark Millar hadn't finished writing the scripts for the book yet. He says the second movie is pretty much dead on to the Hit-Girl mini and Kick-rear end 2 the book.

It's decent, but not really the movie the trailer was selling so people ended up being pretty disappointed. It's more of a light drama about a financially impoverished community.

Unless they changed their minds the really horrible event from the comic will not be in the movie. I really do not want the movie to go where the comic did since Mark Millar just writes to shock and do what he thinks is cool.

One can hardly ignore the Taoist implications of "Fuck it, Dude. Let's go bowling."

I keep seeing this trailer and think it's pretty brilliant. If you don't know, Room 237 is a documentary about the theories people have about Kubrick's The Shining - everything from minotaurs to faked moon landing confessions and more. As such, it's appropriate that the trailer borrows from the original trailer for that film.

From the trailers, I bet it's a put on. Like, she's putting on this accent because it feels homey (which is what Tom Cruise is all about in this movie), to make him happy. Obviously something is up with that lady, and the bad accent is a clue.
