I can see why he would get old. His whole career is basically "welp, I'm a piece of poo poo and I'm poor and I'm gonna rap about it," which can sometimes work really well and other times just be frustrating and dumb. I wouldn't say he complains about his career a lot -- he seems pretty content with it -- but he definitely brings up his lack of commercial success fairly often.

With that said, Legends Never Die is one of my favorite releases of the year so far, even with a few missteps.

i liked him a really long time ago, but i have seriously grown out of enjoying it

someone posted a link the other day and i thought it was from 2002, 10 years later he's still doing the same poo poo over the same beats, which to some people is admirable but i just don't feel the punchline poo poo anymore, and everything else about what he does is not enjoyable to my ears nowadays...not feeling the old rear end beats, etc.

WILL AMOUNT TO NOTHING IN LIFE.

I enjoy listening to R.A. because he's a gigantic mush-mouthed white guy who has great breath and flow. I just wish a lot of his lyrics were in service of telling a story instead of in service of making more technically impressive bars.

EDIT: And I hope we all agree that Masta Ace was awesome on Dangerous Three.

It's weird but for someone who's so entertaining and genuinely funny, he takes himself super seriously and does have an inflated view of himself. He does get same-y and tend to do the same sorts of things over and over but this is all true of quite a few rappers, which I'm fine with as I don't just listen to one rapper.

i think he said "suck my dick" like 17x in the first verse of whatever song i'm talking about

at one point he was (and probably still is) technically impressive, but i'm getting to the point where poo poo has to sound good on top of just being like "wow he rhymed 9 syllables"

Basically this. If you can enjoy him for what he is, he makes some really enjoyable music. Beyond that, if you're looking for a technical mastery of the art form or good punchlines then it's hard not to be impressed by him. Personally, I still enjoy hearing dudes rhyme 15 syllables or rapping in double time for 20 seconds without breathing, so I enjoy his stuff, but I can see why people think he's stale.

THNDRTHF posted:

Yeah I posted that, and I said it was classic RA in the "vulgar, angry, bitter old man" sense. Again, not for everyone, but that's the kind of thing that Rugged Man built his entire career/persona on.

That whole song owns. For some reason I really love Rugged's opening bars here

"Don't get me started/I'm golden era, 88 baby, highly regarded/I get stupid, dookie, doo-doo, def, dumb, retarded"

It just rolls so perfectly over the beat

For the entire loving song, 'Dangerous' is a three syllable word. Then Ace in the last bars,

"Men, women, and child praise me,

the epitome of the best.

Deadly, like three in the chest.

I'm Dain-dress."

I was listening to his new cd on the ride home and just couldn't get into it. I like his first "unreleased" tape, but I can't stand him rapping so fast. He sounds great slowed down but somehow he thinks faster = better. The only track I really like is the opening because he isn't trying to compete with twista for fastest rapper ever. He's really good at what he does I just don't think there is a huge market for it.

Do more like this or just shut up.

sick rear end beat. I love Fast rappers but this is past my liking sound a mess to my ears and yes I'm slow. Ha. But I like your song put em 2 rest. You don't spit this fast the whole verse and like the speed only for a moment. The beat makes up for it. I listen to devil shyt for the sinister dark beats but the devil is my enimey.
