So for anyone looking at the new merc packs, there were differences between what they posted on their front page and what they posted in their announcement thread. The correct list is on the front page. http://dust514.com/news/2013/05/merc-vet-elite-packs/

But I have a feeling most people will disagree with you, it only got bad once they got rid of MacGyver. If I had to guess, I think we can expect the "launch" to be far more broken than the current build, with things like 75% armor boosts to certain tanks, which has the side effect of making AV completely useless. Some tanks will have more armor than a whole squad armed with packed AV grenades can hope to deal with. Oh, and expect mouse controls to still be slightly broken. And the weapons will continue to be horribly unbalanced. And dropsuits will continue to make all of no sense.

Tank buffs happen because tank tryhards ragecomplain up a storm if they lose shields to anything while railsniping from miles away and have to back off and lose a few seconds while they regen. Rarely does it happen because the pilot is utter poo poo and let himself eat five grenades in close combat.

Has anyone created an analogue to the assault skill training plan that was on the II forums for a while? I've spec'd the basics from the previous posts for Uprising, but that was only the first 1 million of the SP I've got stockpiled, and I have no idea what to do with it, nor the patience to get all spreadsheety. I just want to be slightly better at manhunting without having to think too hard.

Paradox had it made up, should be in the Goonfeet thread.

Is it possible to earn EVE PLEX/items while playing Dust? How do the two worlds connect? Or did they drop that whole thing.

Harlock posted:Is it possible to earn EVE PLEX/items while playing Dust? How do the two worlds connect? Or did they drop that whole thing. You can earn isk. There is the ground work for Dust items (Dropsuits, weapons, tanks, etc) in EVE. The main connection as of now is Faction Warfare and the startings of Low Sec planetary Conquest in Dust. EVE players with the rights skills, fittings, and ammos can help out in FW battles and PC battles by providing OB's. The economy of both games is not connected, and it's not really even a Soon^(tm) thing, since it will require tricky, careful consideration.

So if I want to be the guy who gets in close with a shotgun, am I better served with a Light/Scout suit or will I need some survivability from an Assault suit? My wife got into playing EVE recently and seems to really like it. This, however, looks like it would be more fun for me. Is there some way that you can link an EVE and Dust account or is it just, like, stuff she does can impact my game and vice versa because they impact the same worlds?

Scouts aren't much faster than Assault suits, though they are stealthier and thinner. I'd take a shotgun for a weapon on a scout if I was doing ninja-pointscapture gameplay, but in all other cases I'd take Assault Rifles because if you spec into anything else you're gimping yourself in an unfunny way.

Now I just need to organise a mic and I can start squadding up with you guys. Hopefully my USB headset works, it didn't need any custom drivers on Windows so fingers crossed.

Skirmish is basically Conquest, yeah (except the points chip away at MCC health and not available respawns, which are a separate thing (this may be how it worked in BF2142 I never played it)). The PSTriple is generally good at accpeting headsets, and if it works without needing special drivers you should be okay. I have a logitech one that works fine. The biggest issue is that a lot of ancillary things won't work if they do software things, so the only extra functionality you may have is the ability to mute yourself. This kinda blows as you can't increase or decrease how loud other people are (Dust has a setting now, but it doesn't make a difference in my opinion), because Sony doesn't think that's a feature worth having.

The differences are that Titan mode had no tickets IIRC, the Titan was mobile, had operable belly guns and your team could board the enemy Titan once the shields were down to make an assault on the reactor core for a faster kill than the missiles would do alone. Part of me wants DICE to make a BF2143, but then I look at BF3 and ![]() ![]() SpookyLizard posted:The PSTriple is generally good at accpeting headsets, and if it works without needing special drivers you should be okay. Figures. I'll find out tonight. It's not a true USB headset, it's a Beyerdynamic headset that came with a USB sound card. Hopefully people are smart enough to get their volume levels in the ballpark of acceptable.

I hope the PS4 comes with a standard headset. That feature of the Xbox makes it so people generally come in at relatively similar volume levels, mic-eating aside. Voice chat on the PS3 has always been kind of a clusterfuck.

There are a bunch of players in Dust that only give you a difficult time because they've played for so long that they've accumulated enough SP to skill up into hard to kill suits with strong weapons. I confirmed this by making a new character into a Scrambler Pistol specialist (don't buy the burst ones). I'll drop a plasma cannon trip report after the patch goes up and I've had a few rounds on my PLASMA PLASMA PLASMA character.

I've used the proto plasma cannons for three skirmish and one domination. Close tight chokepoints where people bunch up? - It's like the splash only hits one, and if I hit someone dead on it deals splash instead of the full damage. Regular infantry open combat? - Good luck hitting at range with that stupid arc it has, cannon my rear end, better off going shotgun, it hits harder and the shotgun isn't going to hurt you with splash. Anti-vehicle? - Faced off against one militia tank, one gunnlogi, and one of the shiny bulbous white expensive-as-hell tanks. Better off with militia AV grenades. It's the only choice for anti-infantry more reliable than Forge combined with ever-so-weak AV but just don't bother. Some crazy scout will bunnyjump and become a god with it and claim it's overpowered I'm sure.

Scrambler Rifles are pretty loving awesome, for 2 reasons. 1) They have a red dot aiming system, as opposed to iron sights. This means you can actually aim and hit people. 2) They deal a poo poo load of damage when charged up. I've killed ADV scouts with a single shot. But you really only get 3-10 shots before it over heats, so if you can't finish them off rapidly you'll quickly find yourself with a useless hunk of metal in your hand.
