I think I've figured it out. Liefeld draws from his perspective. Look at yourself. Look down. Your head seems tiny compared to your shoulders and chest, which take up most of your field of view of your body. Now look at your feet. Look how far away they are. Look how tiny they are. Your forearm is, like, 5 times the size of your feet! Liefeld draws from perspective and literally has the spatial reasoning of a baby.
