I wonder at times how the crap did they bugger up their physics so hard. Skate 1 and 2 was no-where near as manipulable as Skate 3's.
Also I played Skate 3 heavily for a good year and I rarely, rarely ever came across things like that even when I was building stupid stacks of stuff for sweet crashpiles.

They used a third-rate physics library from RenderWare, which has a long and storied history of ridiculous glitches like Skate 3 had. Getting that stuff to work flawlessly with known parameters is hard enough, but Skate let you throw random poo poo together in random piles which guarantees something is going to go wrong.

What about Skate 2 then? Sure you couldn't spawn things in but you could still drag and move poo poo around.
Also does that explain the awesome crashes in Burnout 3 compared to the lame toned-down ones in Revenge/Paradise?

I don't think "played" is the word to use here. I think mostly people turned it on then tried to make it glitch out in the most hilarious ways they could find.

patch 5.0 posted:

• New: Historic Price charts for Global Market resources are available from the SimCity World button on the main menu.
• New: The Region Wall chat has been completely updated with a new look and new functionality! Chat functions more efficiently and it’s much easier to communicate with other players. Time stamps show on chat messages on rollover. Regional events are easier to read and can be toggled on and off.
• New: Added a filter for friends’ regions in the join region section.
• New: Trading control. Added feature to give players more control over their utilities. Players can now choose whether or not to keep their power, water, or sewage local. This setting can be found on the information panel accessible by clicking on the power plant, water tower, or sewage pipe or plant. Sharing with the region is on by default.
• New: Regional Missions: Added seven new regional missions: Drink It Up!, Plug In, So Stoked, The Wheels on the Bus, Ferry Dust, Station to Station, and Riding Coach.
• New: Regional Achievement: Added a new regional achievement, Field Trip!
• Gifting Improvements: Cash gifts are now delivered electronically, not by truck. This should improve the efficiency of gifting.
• Resource gifts: Resource gifts will happen more reliably. Multiple trucks can make deliveries at once if they are available in the sending city and the truck capacities have been increased.
• Great Works Improvements: Delivery trucks will mark their resources as dropped off as soon as they reach the Great Works, instead of when they arrive back in the city. This will make tracking time more reliable.
• Great Works Improvements: Update to have all resources at Great Works handled at the regional level. This will address players in different cities seeing different resources once the server has processed the region and cities.
• Great Works Improvements: Fixed an issue where an Arcology would maintain power from the region and fixed an issue where shoppers would not increase at the Arcology as it was leveled up. This will update in both existing and new Arcologies.
• Great Works Improvements: Tuned the Solar Farm.
• Regional Unlocks: The advanced coal mine unlocks regionally. Fixed issue where the Trade HQ sometimes did not unlock.
• Fire Advisor Trading clarity: Tuned the Fire advisor so they do not tell you that neighbors are sending fire trucks when your neighbor has no fire stations.
• Trading: School buses that travel from a neighbor’s city will show that city’s avatar.
• Regional Commuting: Fixed an issue where Sims would not be able to take transit out of cities with lots of streetcars or shuttle buses. This could cause some cases where commuting Sims could not return home and their homes would go abandoned.
• Garbage Trucks and Recycling Trucks: Fixed an issue that some cities experienced where garbage and recycling trucks do not leave their buildings or disappeared when trading service with neighbors. Existing cities who have trucks that have disappeared will have to demolish their missing trucks’ garages and plop new garages.
• Text Clarification: The “Out of Money” message now says “Can’t find work” when appropriate in rollover feedback and the approval rating UI. This is to clarify your Sims’ actual need.

Traffic trouble weighing you down? Take to the skies with the SimCity Airship Set! Place the Airship Hangar into your city and watch the tourists arrive in grand style. Place in the Commuter Airship Mooring to alleviate traffic and make commuting a breeze for your city’s workers. Raise property values and lift your Sims’ spirits with two distinct and beautiful balloon parks. With so many spectacular airships to choose from, how will you make your city soar?

Game Features:
• Airship Hangar: Tourists from far and wide can visit your city by air with this elegant new facility.
• Commuter Airship Mooring: Put an end to traffic woes and cruise to and from work in style.
• Two hot air balloon parks: Let your Sims get some perspective and float above it all while adding color and pizzazz to your city.
• Event blimps: Install the Airships Set and these charming giants will take to the skies over your city.

NEW MASS-TRANSIT: AIRSHIPS!
Troubled by traffic? Stadiums not quite at capacity? Then you need the Airship Hangar. Plop the Airship Hangar in your city and you'll be able to welcome Airships bearing tourists from the region. With the added flexibility, you'll have no trouble filling stadium seats or getting gamblers in your casinos. Local shops will benefit from the steady stream of tourists on airships as well. Tourists aren't the only kind of Sims that your city needs! Add a Commuter Airship Mooring to your Airship Hangar to float commuting Sims to work or shop in your city, or to take your city's Sims to a neighboring city. Lighten highway traffic to your city by helping your Sims commute by airship.

NEW PARKS: HOT AIR BALLOON PARKS
Lighter-than-air technology isn't useful solely for travel. The Airships set also includes two Hot Air Balloon Parks. The Hot Air Balloon Park is a pleasing park that lets your Sims forget their cares and see everything from a new perspective. The Urban Hot Air Balloon Park is a more ostentatious park that lets your wealthy Sims hover above it all and feel better about themselves.

EVENT BLIMPS
Once you have airships in your city, blimps will float in to report on special events in your city like sporting events or concerts at your stadiums. Also included in the Airships set are two new achievements. Can you rise to the challenge?

Airships! A totally practical solution to traffic congestion. A single airship can whisk up to 5 sims to their destination at close to 7 miles an hour! Not a big problem I suppose when the entire city is 1km across and half of it is an amusement park.
