I used this on mine, IMO seems like it may be a little safer, less chance of breaking the TV's hdmi port if you bumped the thing good.

I tried to order one from BB yesterday (even though I had one coming from Amazon) and they canceled my order saying they couldn't "confirm my identity" (my profile is dead accurate). Funny though, after I saw that email ... they were magically sold out.

EugeneJ posted:...so the Netflix offer is still good as long as you order from Best Buy? Best Buy probably has a stock of codes that matches their inventory. And if anyone who ordered from Amazon/Prime is unsure if they qualified for the 3-months of Netflix, just start up a chat with customer support and ask; they'll look up your order and see if you got in before the promotion expired.

Btw for people wanting the chrome cast. I walked into best buy just now and bought one and they printed out the code for free 3 months of Netflix. Hopefully it works. Edit: yep it worked so even though google said they're not doing it anymore best buy printed the code on my receipt 5 minutes ago and it worked no problem.

I accidentally bought two of these Wednesday barely knowing what they do. Got one last night and was blown away. I really don't see much need for an HTPC anymore with this, and I'm glad I got a second one to go on a second TV. My only issue was some choppiness, but I'm going to install a wifi extender today so hopefully that will be cleared up.

So mine got delivered, and I've been screwing around with it. Google Music works pretty well... when it decides to. There are a few problems with it. I'm not sure if it's the chromecast itself or my phones connection, but sometimes the app will not load the next song until I go back to the app and reload it. Also if you sideloaded a song on your device and try to play it, it'll tell you it won't work. That's fine, seeing as it's not on Google's servers, but if you sideloaded the album on the device AND have it on Google music, it still won't play it. As far as I can tell, it has to be off the device completely, or else it won't work. Sometimes I'll have albums on my phone in case I can't get a signal, but still want some music. It also seems they did not translate all the resource strings yet. Of course, Google music has always been a bit buggy and this is WAY better than the Google TV one, so I can live with it. Tab casting worked great for me; very little lag, and played back nearly all the stuff I threw at it without issue. Netflix support is pretty cool too. Overall, I'm quite happy with it, especially for the price.

They do that for most promotions. I wouldn't worry I am interested if this will work great with things like NFL Sunday Ticket. If you buy the $100 version of Madden 25 you get access to streaming Sunday Ticket for the season. This might also make Nba League Pass Broadband worthwhile if you can bypass the local blackout restrictions.

Does anyone know if Best Buy allows you to call in, purchase an item and then pick it up later? The nearest best buy is an hour and a half away. I would hate to drive there only to find all the chromecasts have already been purchased.

The two nearest BBs have zero in stock today but one told me that they get their truck in tomorrow so there might be some on it (it is a college town so I am hoping that the tech demographic helps them get another set of stock in).

Got one from BB earlier- came with the Netflix code (they said they have enough codes to match the stock of what they were sent originally). Anyone try it with an iPad mini yet? Also, for my desktop, do I need to connect to my network via a wireless card to work with the Chromecast? I don't own a laptop- only an iPad Mini, GS3, and windows desktop and want to share local video / chrome tabs. UncleGuito fucked around with this message at 02:17 on Jul 27, 2013 |

Is there anything on Netflix that is 5.1? I've tried like 10 movies, all stereo. edit - Someone on XDA fixed my networked PC problem. It's my Verizon router. It has a hidden IGMP settings page, I had to turn that off. FogHelmut fucked around with this message at 02:30 on Jul 27, 2013 |

Additionally, I've been streaming Netflix from my phone/Chromcast all night, but I signed into the Netflix website and they don't seem to know who I am. Now that I have a solid network connection through my wired PC: -Local video in my browser tab casting is working, but if it doesn't have audio in the Chrome browser, it doesn't have audio when it's cast. Couldn't get WMV to cast at all even though it played in Chrome browser. -Playing these through Plex in the browser works perfectly. -Amazon instant is poo poo. Anything you'd want to watch is full of Silverlight and doesn't work. Certain things that are not Silverlight work well, however. -Porncasting works. edit - Going full-screen with Plex browser player makes 2.35:1 movies distort to 16:9. This might be a function of the Plex browser player, or the fact that I'm still using a 4:3 monitor. FogHelmut fucked around with this message at 03:07 on Jul 27, 2013 |

They say an iOS setup app is coming soon, but I don't know how it could work. iOS apps can't change the wifi on the device, and in order to set it up you have to chance to the Chromecasts special wifi hotspot to set it up. If you're Chromcasting from a Chrome tab it hays to stay open. That just makes sense.
