Here's my first game as Ottomans in 1535. - Mega Poland is allied with Mega France. - The Hansa has northern Germany locked up and the AI always seems to do well with Tuscany. - Qara Konalu is the puke green blob and Oman has united Arabia Shiites triumph. - Timurids migrated north-east I figured the best way to deal with everyone buying access to Portugal's ports was to exterminate Portugal. Colonization isn't as expensive as I expected and I've been able to build 10 or so colonies without much expense. It sucks that you can't seize universities anymore but being able to core quickly makes remote conquests much cheaper. In EU3 I would have had 50 years of -90% remote province income penalties for my Spanish provinces, but now it's just months. Also no colonist penalties for Islam! And since only nearby powers care about your aggression buffer states work brilliantly. Rosscifer fucked around with this message at 10:38 on Aug 16, 2013 |

The shared enemy bonus is definitely the easiest way to get diplo vassals, which makes sense if you think about it.

Dibujante posted:Don't you need +190 to vassalize to begin with? How do you do that? Is that basically a way of forcing you to win some wars with your junior allies in order to vassalize them? What he meant is that you can get a total of +200 relations from "improve relations" with one of your vassals instead of the usual +100 max with other countries. This helps a lot inheriting different religions vassals and such. Still, having the same rivals and all makes it faster.

Dibujante posted:Don't you need +190 to vassalize to begin with? How do you do that? Is that basically a way of forcing you to win some wars with your junior allies in order to vassalize them? To diplo vasalies you pretty much need the shared enemy bonus ontop of being allied, maried and the same religion, which as others have said makes perfect sense. It shouldn't be easy for you to vassalies another country, and they are only going to agree to it to get the protection against another power that they fear.

Or if you support a rebellion it seems pretty easy to vassilize the country right after. I did it with Scotland as Great Britain when they rebelled from Norway in a multiplayer game and I was able to diplo vassilize right after despite owning the rest of their provinces.

While it was incredibly annoying right when it happened, in retrospect it is pretty cool that a single 5/5/2/3 rebel commander forced me to convert to Protestantism. I was coming out of a war where the Ottomans had killed all of my 80k troops (thanks for all the help Poland, I'm glad you lost Bessarbia ), and my mercenaries could not touch him. Without ironman I would have just reloaded, but I converted and am having more fun for it. Ironman mode is the best mode.

So, if you haven't bought EU IV yet, you might want to take a look at the current deal on Nuuvem, as the price is ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS. Don't see it getting any cheaper any time soon.

Is there anywhere I can find out more info on exactly how the trade system works and how to gain the most from it? For example I have no idea if I should send Barques to protect the trade and increase tradepower for a tradenode where I control 100% of the provinces or what to do to get the most out of it. Is it better to use my merchants to steer trade or collect income? Why do I not receive income frome some nodes even though I control most of the trade in it? How would I for example increase my income in Ragusa? I'm the Roman Empire.
