One of the things that exites me most about the X Rebirth videos is the music. I think the X series has some of the best music in video games, I listen to it all the time. Even if I never play X Rebirth, I'll get it for the music.

That's not what gaslighting means you hyperbolic dipshit.
One thing I've never really liked about sandbox games is that it so often feels like the universe is completely static except for whatever is being randomly spawned inside some arbitrarily determined radius around the player, at which point anything can happen, so long as it follows the spawning likelihood rules set by the immediate area. In other words, most of these games feel like no matter what you do or how powerful the game makes you feel relative to your immediate surroundings, you're never truly able to influence the way the game world works in any meaningful way. Your influence is like a hand in a bucket of water. You can move your hand pretty much anywhere you want and you might not even feel much resistance as you move around, but once your hand leaves a spot, that spot immediately fills back up with water and it's like you were never there.

One thing I hope for X Rebirth is that the universe isn't like that. I hope the whole universe is determined from the start and is persistent through your save game, such that the player can choose his own goals and actually achieve them to a very measurable degree, whether those goals are economic, military, or exploratory in nature. For example, I'd like to be able to say to myself "I want to eventually wipe out every single [enemy faction] ship and structure from space" and actually be able to do that. This doesn't mean "blow up whatever enemy ship randomly spawns close by, like the way a random pedestrian in GTA spawns in and out of existence based on proximity to the player" but instead something closer to "at the start of the game, a finite amount of enemy ships and bases exist in the universe and they produce X additional units over time depending on various factors and at any point, it would theoretically be possible to generate a list of every single one of those entities, and once hunted down and eliminated, they're loving gone." As in once all the ships and factories owned by the faction are gone, it's no longer possible for that faction to appear anywhere in that save game from then on.

If the universe was designed like that, it would help players much more easily define their own victory conditions, which I believe are key to enjoying games like this. Setting goals for yourself like "Eliminate factions X and Y, and obtain ownership of faction Z either through economics or military force" could actually be possible this way, and I think it would give the game a lot of replayability. Otherwise, the only tangible things you can actually hope to accomplish are "get a lot of income per hour" and "get a lot of ships to command" which is great once or twice, but would probably get old pretty fast after a certain point.

Unless I'm horribly mistaken, what you're talking about is already possible within the X Series, but requires mods to turn off functions of the Global Decision Engine ( aka GoD ) to bring about those results you're after.
The universe regenerates by design, if it were left static as you describe, by the time the player has reached an ability to remove factions on their own, the universe would have most likely already been wiped out by the Xenon ( & Khaak ).

Do we know if X-Rebirth will have a UI system that is newbie friendly?
I bought all of the X series cause I loved the concept but my god is their UI awful.
At this point, I'll settle for something like Dragon Commander where you essentially have 2 separate game modes.

My guess is no, just can't be newbie-friendly with a broad scope like that.
My other guess is it'll be really buggy on launch, also it'll probably melt even high-end PCs until few patches in, so I'm not preordering.

That's awesome!

I wonder how easy it would be to mod the GoD engine or whatever to be intelligent and to play by the rules, so like if a faction had all its ship producing factories destroyed by the player faction, the game would check to see how much money the enemy faction had and if it could afford it, it would build more factories for money, and would continue to keep itself alive and growing until it couldn't anymore.

If every ship in the game is always accounted for and there is such an engine to keep everything in balance, it sounds entirely possible.

Its entirely feasible to make the AI play within the rules, certain mods like Pirate Guild and Phanon Corp do it, but the game shouldn't work that way by default. I always wanted to see a game that plays like that, but then I remember what a nightmare it is to outfit a fleet and I don't want that same headache when even buying the fleet.

Since TC the bugs have been fairly minor, story bugs etc that were fixed quickly but those were expansions basically.

X3 Reunion on the other hand... so yeah probably a good idea to play it a few weeks later.

( But I have nothing else pressing in my game queue so I'll probably be struggling with Rebirth at launch ).

I expect the game to play like complete poo poo and have tons of bugs launch day but that is how things roll with many of these niche games. I want egosoft to get my money so they know I trust them. All of the X games have ended in a good state. Few companies have actually earned any trust from me to patch their games.

I'll probably look into a good joystick for launch because I love joysticks for the dog fights even if they are a small part of the game.

My empire shall cross the stars, I will rule over all, empires shall fear me as I laugh with corporate greed. I'll probably enjoy the ever loving poo poo out of vanilla for a month or two and come back in a year to play with mods/scripts. I doubt anything of value will be out (trader scripts with an entirely new engine in the first month? HAHAHHA yeah right).

The only thing you miss by skipping straight to Albion Prelude over Terran Conflict are the TC plot missions and those are nothing special. One annoyance in AP though is the red war sectors always have hostile Terran or Argon (depending on your start) military ships in them and it makes those sectors incredibly dangerous to trade until you can end the war.

I really hope in the new game using multiple ships is viable right off the bat. In x3 it simply doesn't make sense having a carrier or a TM with fighters since they will probably crash at the enemy as soon as your attack starts. I do fix that using mods, the three mods I think are obligatory: litcube's bounce, ADS and the one that allows the AI ships to use the docking computer extension. But this kind of make using multiple fighters a little bit too powerful for my tastes. If Rebirth came with some reasonable AI for your ships it would be awesome.
