I wonder if getting some folks together, or helping look up some shipping and moving companies would help. Just an idea, this way he can keep all his stuff, get an idea of the cost of shipping and timeframe for delivery, then pitch in and cover the cost of the move plus any necessities he'd need after getting home.

Sometimes I would catch my dog throwing his own ball in the air and trying catch it. He'd lightly bite it and fling his head up, tossing the ball and then he'd wait for it to arc back down and try do a running jump at it. Then it's 'Oh alright you, I'm here, lets throw the ball'
