DUH. How did you not see it? I mean, everyone got so creative with the character design!

In short, yes.

In long, yes, because it's extremely gorgeous when it counts, most of the episodes are solid with maybe 3 notable bad ones, there's some seriously incredible oh-poo poo moments, it's loving bleak as hell, the main characters are all crazy, broken, cowards, occasional comic relief or sociopaths, and the setting and concept is pretty awesome. It's based on a manga that's almost got enough chapters out for a second season's worth of episodes and has skyrocketed up the charts to easily take the #2 sales ranking, only beaten by One Piece, which at this point is an unstoppable sales juggernaut that has literally outsold any book in all of Japanese history and sold 100 million volumes in a 4 year period.

I always recommend people read the manga before jumping into the anime. There's a few things the anime doesn't handle very well, and you'll be more ready to ignore the often bad filler bits since you'll know they weren't there initially. Plus it's nice to see the fights in static images and THEN see them in motion.

This is just the loving best. For those who haven't seen AOT, that's Bertholdt on the left, and Reiner on the right. They've been nicknamed Bert and Ernie since they're best friends.

It's pretty good yeah. I haven't touched a manga in like five years but a friend recommended AOT to me and I was hooked. The silly fanart is so good because it's normally such a bleak and depressing story that weird fanart stands in such stark contrast.

It also helps that the artist himself has done plenty of weird fanart too.

"Hey Isayama, we need you to draw Mikasa in a bikini for the cover money shot!"

He's a huge fan of MMA(his blog is like 95% gushing about it) so he drew Mikasa in an MMA getup rather than a bikini. And it made her MORE popular BECAUSE she's totally ripped and not a moeblob like the thing she's next to.

What I'm saying is Isayama draws the best and weirdest fanart of his own stuff.

For the benefit of others: I think this was from an instance where, on Sears.com, someone had made it possible to use a piece of explicit Dedede art (I believe that he is pleasuring himself with a Waddle Dee in the full image) as decoration for various items, such as plates and the like (think Cafepress or Zazzle).
Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. The image is called "King dedede drooling while eating" and features:
King Dedede with two dicks pleasuring himself with a waddle dee, another waddle dee is laying on the floor with some white gloop on where his rear end would be.

Basically, it wasn't actually Sears that picked it up, it was one of their content making subcompanies or something that did it and then sold the product through Sears.com. People actually ordered it and got the product. The 'original' :airquote: 'artist' didn't receive a cent, thank god. It was a pretty big embarrassment for Sears. To this day I'm kinda curious what godawful website they picked the image up from, and how they didn't notice it was hardcore pornography. I know there was probably a language barrier involved, but it's kind of hard to miss what's going on in that image, and that they clearly did not have a license to be selling Kirby merchandise. You'd think they would have people to check these things. :psyduck:

I checked to see if it was just an innocent mistake on the supplier's part, but it's pretty painfully clear the artist's gallery is mostly things like that.

Some of the rumor buzz on various sites was pretty nasty, too. He regularly throws fits in the standard, overly dramatic "I'm too good for this website/community/fandom and am leaving forever and quitting drawing fetish art." way, only to return under a new name and 'fursona' a few months later, drawing the same terrible poo poo. At least he takes down his gallery each time. Another was 'Oh, and it turns out he has raped people at furry conventions.' :stonk: I don't know how much of it was true because I stopped looking into it there. The abyss was gazing back into me too hard and it was time to step away.

Some nights I wonder what dark turn my life had taken that I looked all that up just for unlicensed merchandising. :eng99:

From my experience with furries (looking far away with binoculars and a stick), it isn't anything unusual for them to destroy all their work from a minor thing that makes them upset. It keeps the amount in balance and thank goodness for that.
