Good Citizen posted:For anyone who hasn't realized it yet, the weapon assembly class that unlocks in the post game is amazing. At max level it can increase any aptitude like atk/int/whatever by 5% any time you beat a level and it persists through reincarnation. And yes, even item world stages count. It's nuts. The congress system in this game would be extremely lovely but thankfully you can finally just bribe the gently caress out of them with HL. Once you have CoO6 open just run it a few times with cheat shop at 600% HL and never worry about passing anything again! DD2 appears to be completely lacking in "Dark" levels, reverse pirating (although a version of the reverse pirate levels pops up randomly while venturing in item world now, which is arguably more fun since it forces you to be prepared for them constantly), or any meaningful collect-a-thon unless gathering all the pirate ships unlocks something I'm not aware of. The item world itself is also way more stark and boring than it was in D4. The Land of Carnage is no longer a thing to find, just a menu option that becomes available in the post-game.. To me this game really feels like they cut out D2-D4 and started over with a new sequel as if they had just made Disgaea, taking it in a different direction than they did the first set of sequels other than merging in a few ideas here and there. I still like it overall but it really feels like they sacrificed content, specifically I really miss having a postgame set of challenge levels. And personally I'm really kinda getting sick of the pirate ship theme. In case anyone here hasn't noticed yet, it looks like Coach and Physician innocent roles are swapped; Physicians now grant speed and Coaches grant res. It looks like it's just the names swapped since "Coaches" appear in orbs and "Physicians" appear in shoes.

Well D2 is considered a "spin off" officially so it being a different direction from 2-4 kinda makes sense. It feels more like they remade the first game added some newer features while retaining the original feel then said you know what gently caress it lets continue the story.

Only thing missing from D1 that I miss (Besides the Defenders of Earth of course), are the Galactic demons. They'd be the absolute best mounted units in the game. Speaking of which, do monsters eventually learn new mounted attacks, or are they one trick ponies when ridden by a non-mage?

So who wants 24 billion hell? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWxQx0DS2RE Also, with this much money, you can just pass any bill through the pay up command after the vote. You can do this before the postgame, but LoC makes it way more lucrative.

I just hit triangle twice to sort the relevant skills. I just learned that apprentices can get special attacks that are way above their weapon rank I had Laharl create a lady samurai and she was able to get musou slash immediately instead of grinding for it. Thank gently caress for that since D4 was an unholy slog trying to get specials on a specific character.

Yeah, being able to transfer weapon skills through the mentor system really makes it easier to get random new characters leveled up fast. Well one step easier anyway. I'm at the point now where I need to grind up items and collect innocents to be able to handle LoC/Rasetsu but I might just stop here because man IW is boring in this game. It is nice though that you can set it to 'cramped' and not have to worry about boosting +mv on anything.. a masked hero with three store-bought accelerators is plenty. Incidentally, one other benefit to having basically unlimited HL once you get there is it's real easy to pass "I want to be friends!" (and thus "I want their Evility!") on any random new character, so you can easily combo evilities. I nabbed Porkmeister's "+30% to all stats if an Overlord is on the field" and gave it to Laharl, works exactly as well as you'd expect! zzMisc fucked around with this message at 15:11 on Oct 14, 2013 |

This has to be the easiest to break Disgaea game yet. Towers are so broken. They give every character in the stack 100% of mana/exp.

Just started D2 last night. Would it be viable to go with axes for Laharl, or should I just stick with swords? On an unrelated note, holy poo poo Bomber Dood.

With all the talk about how D2 is less complex: if I've totally forgotten what the hell I was doing in my 4 save enough to want to start fresh, should I play 4 or D2 first?

Deki posted:Speaking of which, do monsters eventually learn new mounted attacks, or are they one trick ponies when ridden by a non-mage? I think they get a second mounted skill at max likeability, better grind those supports! The real key to mounting is that is uses the monster's HP and defensive stats, and the rider's offensive and accuracy stats. You're supposed to stick glass cannons (like mages) on tanky monsters. Or archers too I guess, since they have ranged normal attacks.

Archers should be able to counter skills so long as they're in range, right? I want to combine a strong offensive archer with the zombie's 10% HP return on attack evility. They'd have to have a lot of counters for that to be worthwhile though, and it wouldn't help any while riding.

The last map of chapter 2 early on. 6-1 with enemy level set to 9 when you can handle it.

People swear by 6-1, but I'd also point to Silver Witch, Inner Sanctum, or Green Room. I got a lot of use out of Green Room, which is the second-to-last stage in Episode 4, because it's really easy to trigger a Geo Chain that takes out every panel on the map and guarantees you'll get every item on the bonus meter.

Silver witch(2-6?) is amazing, read about it last night and have just been leveling every generic(100+) like mad while only at chapter 4. After beat this level there are just 4 dragons you can push together and smash for good exp. Have a base for the tower with high hp and high def, bring them out the first turn to have the dragons move forward. Second turn bring out 4 people and lift all 4 dragons and end turn. Must likely will be able to destroy each dragon with a counter attack, its best to not let them kill themself. On the third turn mash all the dragons into a big dragon and then build the tower and end turn. Finally on turn 4 do a tower attack, to explode the exp dragon pinata.

Mokinokaro posted:/\ or save some work and build up a high hp/high def heavy knight with the protect regardless of distance evilty and laugh as your glass cannons become almost untouchable. The problem I've found with this is a single knight will only block 3 times per round. I didn't have any problems with that limitation in the story though, but it can be a real pain in the item world. Has anyone used two or more knights in this way and can comment on how well they work? I think what I'm going to do is just build up a mothman steed for maximum speed.. zzMisc fucked around with this message at 18:12 on Oct 15, 2013 |

Does anyone know how weapon skill XP works? Is it just any hit equals X XP or does it depend on enemy level at all?

It's purely any hit for weapon mastery and skill exp.

Any hit. I think skills count but I'm not sure, but counters assuredly count because that's the way people are megagrinding it.

Exactly the same as Disgaea 2. Incidentally the Sparring Partner caps at 1900 (not 9999 like that Prima guide would have you believe), but it seems to multiply that by whatever you have the cheat shop set to, so if you cap both you'll get to 255 mastery absurdly fast. The Prima guide, so far as I've seen, also doesn't make mention of how to get high-level rare specialists in a reasonable amount of time. Spoilered in case anyone wants to discover the mechanics for themselves. Just like in D4, you get a percentage bonus when you subdue an innocent on the Innocent path based on how deep you are in the item. At floor 91-99 you should get a 90% bonus, though I haven't tested that deep yet. Only problem is you can't transfer unsubdued specialists anymore.. but the guy who randomly sells you a single specialist actually sells them unsubdued. So keep an eye out for him, if you see one selling a guardian buy it, immediately fuse whatever guardians you've got to it, do NOT subdue it on your way down to floor 90, exit and save, then subdue before you hit bottom to nearly double what you've got. A slow process, but it's still gotta be quicker than non-bug duping in D4. Although really, I guess the above spoiler mostly just applies to Guardians, as they're the only ones that are acquirable that way and actually come in so small a quantity to make it worthwhile. zzMisc fucked around with this message at 20:15 on Oct 16, 2013 |

I'm loving DD2 but I really hope they put out a patch to fix the freezes soon. After a power outage earlier which cost me half an hour of progress, I lost another 10-15 minutes when I got to the 10th level of an item and the game froze on me. I think that's a sign to stop playing for the day. It only happened to me once before, on the 10th level of a different item, but it's still annoying.

I don't have any freezes either. Maybe some models of PS3 have the issue? I'm using the newest firmware on whatever PS3 came with the Black Op's bundle a few years ago. I haven't put stupid amounts of time into D2 but I'm on the final battle and have cleared the item world to level 30. So I'm just not sure where the crash is. I have all animations on but normally skip them with triangle. Maybe auto-animation skip is causing the issues? Maybe its an issue with a movement type? I just think its odd that not everyone is having the issue. Coming up with a work around for people with the issue is probably going to be a month quicker then NISA releasing a patch, hell it might make it quicker if we circulate what it is since it would basically be saying the issue is with X.

I haven't had a freeze-up, not even once, in more than 50 hours by the game clock. I have animation skip on but it still plays them all the first time you see them used. I'm using the disc version, not the downloaded.
