Was it D/P/P that had that sticker customization where you could add animations to when you used a Pokemon in battle? I remember seeing that somewhere.

Heart Gold/Soul Silver, for sure. I didn't pay much attention to Gen3 or Gen4 otherwise, though; the plots were too stupid.

It was 4th gen, yeah. It's gone as of Black/White. Likewise, pokémon chilling outside their balls with you was in HG/SS alone and will likely never be seen again. The fantastic things about X/Y that people are talking about? Will likely be absent for Gen 7 if/when it arrives.

Given Team Plasma's general intelligence, I think the "manifesto" consisted of "hey, wanna dress up in Ren Faire chainmail and be accepted for it? Come join us!"

Mawlie is a pretty cool pokemon, though I'm sure I'm going to be confused and keep forgetting it was only a pure steel type in these games.

Also one little thing I liked was that the person operating the route gate actually knows you.

Vinny and Snivy looked good together, but I fuckin' love Mawile. So glad it's finally getting its due in Gen VI.

I also find myself wondering if B/W2's story is an attempt to make it more... accessible to its target audience. Black/White's plot was the most complex, relative to every other game in the series. So far this looks to be heading in the exact opposite direction. How well did the first Unova game sell compared with the rest of the series? Might clarify things.

Pokemon X and Y did something like that actually - you just start off with the running shoes - can't even recall if there's a "press B to run!' sorta thing at the beginning.

Actually the newest generation barely has a tutorial, it took five-ten minutes tops. Even I thought that was a bit short.

You can connect your B/W game with this one. Depending on how far you are in B/W when you do this you'll get scenes that fill in some of the info between B/W and B2/W2. There are also some minor gameplay things, but I'm sure we'll see those eventually.

I've actually quite liked the "isn't technology amazing" person through the generations. Just how it went from technology in the game with the PC Storage, and then as the Online features really took off it ends up talking about real world things like that. Tech obsessive is just as much a vital character in these games as Six Magikarp Guy to me. Always nice to see them.

And on the subject of balls: Quick Balls, Dusk Balls. Those are the main ones. Work the best, and look pretty great too. Pokeballs are for boring losers, so there. See every other trainer in the game. Luxury Balls are probably my favourite for looks though. Well, that was a load of balls about balls. Balls.

Actually Pokeballs are for boring and cheap losers. Luxury Balls have the same catch rate as regular ball I believe.
There must be a 6 Magikarp Guy in every game (or that guy that has nothing but coccon pokemon that are at a high enough level to evolve).

I like the choice of Mawile in that it's one of the very few pure steel types and as such has a good amount of resistances. While two of its weaknesses are often covered by its decent defence stat (fighting and ground been mostly physical attacks). As others have said, while its sub-par move set is a bit of a drawback it does get nice moves from other sources.

I got Black 2, but I never actually did the game link stuff so I'm pretty interested in that.

I also never actually beat the game. I finished out the story, but right before going to the final area I just stopped playing. Something about this game just kind of rubbed me the wrong way I guess, I just never really liked it like I did with Platinum and Soul Silver (and now X). I did beat the Elite 4 the first time in 1, but didn't really do much of the post game in that either. I was just never a fan of the region I guess, although I do like a lot of the new Pokemon.

I'm also interested in seeing what you do with Mawile. I caught it/traded for it in previous games for 'dex completion, but never really liked it enough to stick it in my main party.

Choro Notes: Thunder Fang is an egg move for Mawile. That is, it doesn't normally have it at this level but was born with it. Without it, all Jawnie would have is Astonish which would make this part impossible without another monster.

Choro Notes: Fake Tears is a dark-type move that harshly lowers the target's Special Defense by throwing off their concentration. This isn't that useful for Mawile, to be honest.
