https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kg4vVYKc90 Bionerd finds a peanut sized chunk of either graphite cooling rod or spent fuel from Chernobyl surrounded by radioactive ants and does various measurements and tests (like she always does). I think it's the biggest chunk they've found and also maxes out a lot of the meters they like to show off from sponsors.

I posted a video of an acapella band singing "Under Pressure" before, I found a video of a similar band playing the same song, but I think this one has Tommy Wiseau in it, or at least someone who looks and sounds close enough to him to throw me for a loop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiQl28_55Qg

Captain Backslap posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kg4vVYKc90 Yeahhhh I really doubt that she's found a piece of a fuel rod or even a control rod. Edit: just to expand, Bionerd states that she measured levels of 115 mSv/h from the sample. A typical spent fuel bundle after 10 years of cool-down with no shielding measures at approximately 270 Sv/h. Given that the explosion at Chernobyl happened in a reactor core and not a spent fuel pond any fragments ejected would have been from still-active rods so fuel fragments would possibly have much higher levels. Basically, if it was a fragment from a fuel rod, Bionerd would be very sick. Also, "pure gamma radiation" as stated in the title of the video is a misnomer: http://www.physics.isu.edu/radinf/gamma.htm Pile Of Garbage fucked around with this message at 04:13 on Nov 17, 2013 |

cheese-cube posted:Yeahhhh I really doubt that she's found a piece of a fuel rod or even a control rod. Not that I don't doubt it's a fuel rod myself, but Chernobyl happened 27 years ago so it could have decayed quite a bit more in that intervening time. The decay trend is not linear due to different elements decaying differently though, so I don't know what it would actually be expected to be emitting after 27 years as opposed to 10 years.

Unless Bionerd actually sends the sample off to the IAEA and gets it properly fingerprinted none of us will really know whether it was from a part of the reactor. However, if it were a fuel rod or any piece of material that was within or in proximity to the reactor at the time of the incident it would still be dangerously radioactive 27 years later. On the subject and for the thread, here is a fantastic documentary about the Chernobyl disaster which really gives an idea of just how dangerous the levels of radioactivity were: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdMLFJJyWnM

Tommy Wiseau is pretty short and stocky. Not fat just big and muscular.

The whole a capella glee ultra-white kids covering rocks songs thing annoys me. Not like "augh gently caress those motherfuckers" but it's been done. Done to death. The first couple times, it was interesting but only in a math-rock kind of way. "ooh look somebody took the time to learn the exact notes and now they hum them." - and, it's incredible to have that kind of accuracy in your vocal range. So. With that accuracy, why do such campfire-singalong covers? Give me something mind-blowing outrageous. Not Toto, not Journey, not Bowie/Queen. How bout some Troggs or Springsteen's Born To Run? Side note, drat them tittays.
