TooMuchAbstraction posted:I assume that the shopkeepers retain their ridiculously fast reflexes from the original. Taking basically any offensive action except for throwing something that isn't a bomb will result in the shopkeeper firing their shotgun one frame later. You can still shoot them with their own guns, but you have to be ready to dodge. No, I've done it before, and it's super easy. Just freeze the shopkeeper, smash 'em to bits, and then feel free to loot them for whatever else they have.

Maybe Olmec can crush it? Of course, if he can't and the ball drags you with it when it falls that could make that fight interesting.

That'd work fine if he wasn't in the black market where there was another shopkeeper just offscreen who would've fired before he even jumped on the first shopkeeper. It would've still killed the first shopkeeper, but he'd have had a lot of trouble getting out of there. Anyway, you get rid of the ball and chain using a few methods. I won't go into detail in case Psych is planning on showing it off in the LP, but generally it's no more resilient than say, the Key in the mines.

Regy Rusty posted:So how do you get rid of the ball and chain? There are a couple of ways. If you have a lot of ropes or (preferably) the climbing gloves, you can drop almost all the way to the bottom of an ice level and let it dangle in the bottomless pit, which removes it from the game. You can also crush it under a block or drop it in lava.

Kali is such a cool mechanic. I'm hoping there's an expansion to this at some point. I think it'd also be interesting to see them experiment with earlier deaths effecting later level generation, sort of like tombstones in other RL games.

This last video gave me a laugh when the first level of the temple had lava behind a shopkeeper's wall. This game, always taunting you.

It can also break the Moai, though it turns the Hedjet into a diamond.

Well really any time you get access to the door within the moai that will happen, the ball and chain just provides an easy way to do so. It ensures that the only way to get the hedjet is to die.

I really like the music for the gambling shop. It's just nice and cheery, and it's something to listen to while you spin again and again and again. I think every time I come to one the outcome is either win the present, spend all my money, or run away when the ghost shows up. And the music is even better once the ghost spawns.

I'm thinking of a run where I bomb every altar I find, I've already started planning it out a bit. You are a saint.

On the note of items affecting the ghost: While the camera is the only player item that affects it, there are other things that can. I know the UFO's attacks will deal damage to her and knock her back a bit. She has infinite health, so the damage doesn't matter, but the knockback may be useful in some capacity.

The fun part is that in the original Spelunky she will start running when you put her down without buying her, causing the shopkeeper to aggro. Also I seem to recall the price to buy her was ridiculous in the original, as opposed to stupid in this one.

Yeah, one of the good things about the game is that it's easy to come back from some sort of bullshit. Like getting to the black market with a ton of bombs, lots of money, and six health only to have a boomerang tiki man spawn directly behind the second shop keeper god loving drat stupid goddamn game.

Every time you got hit by an attack, they'd make it come more frequently. Every time you dodged it, they'd make it more dangerous. Not died to an arrow trap in a while? Every arrow trap now has two shots! Dying repeatedly to them? Fifty arrow traps per stage until you stop being a dumb.

I actually like to see Psych do a run using this setup (can be any controller through) and beat the game with at least one alive at the end. Would also be a good way to show some of the characters who not been picked.Heran Bago posted:Thanks to emulators and Wavebird controller channels I've played some games as two or three players with one set of inputs before. Anybody have tips on how to deal with the Black Market when shopkeepers are already aggroed? If I can buy a shotgun inside then it's easy to set up position and deal with all of them, but when I've already killed one then the two on the top layer just immediately rush out and kill me within a few seconds.

There's usually a safe corner in the top left/right of the black market entrance. Climbing Gloves or a rope up there make it easy to just wait it out while both of them either shoot each other or fall to the bottom. Its usually the best bet. As for the ankh guy, you pretty much need to dunk bombs into his pit and pray.
