Seriously, if it's not non-premium cars with their black holes for dashboards, it's the incredibly dark interiors of every other car (except probably the open cockpit machines). I've tried using in-car view for a number of cars now and it's like the windscreens are tinted. Just as well, because I needed a proper excuse to just continue using bumper cam.

Only ones I can think of that aren't standard is the Sauber/Merc C9, Jag XJR-12, Mazda 787B, Ford GT Mk I and IV, Jag XJ9, and a few Ferrari's. More will probably be upgraded if I had to guess like I know the Alfa DTM/ITR car is getting upgraded based on an article earlier this year.

All the standard quality cars with no interiors in GT5 are (mostly) the same ones with no interiors in GT6. Some have had updated exteriors though with higher polygon counts, but that's about it.

Yeah the game still has what, 800 standard cars? At least the selection of premium cars is well-rounded however, offering up cars of all types from all eras. I'm disappointed that some of the cooler rally cars along with everything from RUF have remained standard though, especially since the Porsche license is still locked down, you'd think they'd prioritize their RUF selection for premium upgrades. Speaking of cars, is it true that they had to pull the Ferrari F1 cars from the game? It was nice having them in GT5 and it would be a shame to see them go.

I was thinking about getting back into GT. Then I watched the Giantbomb quicklook and at some point they drive the Pikes Peak Quattro and I realized I'd never be able to get over those engine sounds. Why even bother putting a car like that into the game if that's all you can do when it comes to sound?

Why even bother putting a car like that into the game if that's all you can do when it comes to sound? I don't know if a technical limitation (sound is cpu intensive), Kaz not giving a flying gently caress, or a combination of both where they reckon it's not worth the effort to change their PS3 engine but are making sure the PS4 version sounds right. The aliasing also looked bad, in particular compared to GT5. The lighting is much more realistic (really good in some situations), the reflections clearer, and in car shadows less jagged but I'm not certain it was all worth the loss in IQ, especially if the game's actually dropping frames now. The snow/dirt plumes are improved but still noticeably low res.

I think the poor engine sounds has a much simpler explanation to be honest, that their sound engineers just aren't very good at their job. Kaz knows that people hate the engine sounds, and I've no doubt he thinks they're rubbish too considering what cars he owns and his own on-track experience. If PD were a western studio I've no doubt their audio team would have been replaced by now, but Japanese companies have a different philosophy with that kinda thing I think?

I don't understand why there are reviews today when the game isn't feature complete until today, where the other half of the game is added by a patch. Gametrailers is the only site I see so far taking their time with their review. It's 4 degrees outside, but i'm dressing up warm and getting ready to head out to buy GT6.

I dont get how they will manage to improve the sound through a patch, seeing as the best way to get accurate sounding cars is to record them under load, usualy on a dyno and from multiple sources. I dont think the GT series has ever done this and it seems unlikely that PD will do this for however many cars via patch.

It would be impossible to accurately simulate the sound of every single car in the game, even just the premiums, that'd be too much work, but they can at least do the most popular cars.

We've basically hit the point where reviewers really need to start putting the version number in the review so people 6 months from know will know why no one made mention of this cool GPS feature. Or are the reviews making sure to mention all the parts of this game that aren't actually in the game yet?

For (at least) GT1 and GT3 they actually did record the sounds of every single car in the game, at multiple locations and attempting to isolate components where possible (because for example gearbox noise can be a pretty big component in the overall noise a car makes, especially with high-end sports cars), all across the rev range and where possible at high speed. It's actually a pretty small amount of work compared to what they have to do getting the physical model of the car right. So why every car in GT4 and most in GT5 sound like a generic sawtooth wave run through a pitch-shifter I have no idea, particularly when a bunch of volunteers managed to make GPL sound like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBxSDKt3GF4

Okay so the long load times only happen when the game is installing a new track to the hard drive. Obviously PSN downloads wont have this issue, but if you bought the blu-ray disc, expect long load times for a while.
