I just gave the Short Circuit a quick run before work, and it's pretty brutal. If you get the drop on a Demoman or a Soldier without a Shotgun, you can decimate them. They're not fast enough to run away and you're quick enough to stay out of their melee range. I know that they're trying to make the new festive weapons more distinct this year, but they're really, really gaudy. I feel bad enough about my tacky Ubersaw from last year, but the only one I really like this year is the Wrangler. I'm sure that'll be the most expensive one. Edit: Oh, the GRU look quite nice, actually! They're very classy in black, like the Ambassador. The Sapper is a bit much, I was hoping for a Red-Tape Recorder that plays cheesey Christmas songs. Use the Short Circuit around the cart on payload offense. Free metal from the cart + minis + no-rocket-zone = a huge pain in the rear end for the red team.

The Soda Popper's new feature actually has the potential to make Scout useful in Payload and A/D maps. I just quad-jumped over a Demoman's sticky bomb trap and shot him in the back. He had no idea how to handle that.

The change to the Soda Popper is amazing and serves as an aerial alternative to the BFB at the tradeoff of being what's more or less the crappiest scattergun damage-wise. Well worth it!

I got a non-Strange Festive Jarate and that nice all-class top hat from the crates. At least with the former I'll know someone will be buying them up to make a Collector set, so it's good that they found a use for those other than clogging up the item schema. Afterwards I sent my old Pyromancer Mask off via catapult, and the person who received it had a [Pyroteam] tag in their name, so clearly I did good this Christmas. Also that Short Circuit spam is viciously loud, holy hell.

The Short Circuit buff sounds awful. It basically makes it impossible for Soldiers or Demos, the two classes who are best at breaking sentry nests, to break a sentry nest.

Keep in mind they would have to sub out the Wranger to use it, so it's not really any worse than what you'd be dealing with anyway.

Also it chews through metal fast, so while it does shut down soldiers, the engie is pretty much only has the advantage for only about ten seconds, and if another class shows up, he screwed.

I feel like the immediate reactions to the Short Circuit are somewhat kneejerky. The big reason the old Short Circuit sucked was because even if you were using it well you couldn't hope to keep up with a Soldier or Demo's firing rate because the thing was just so drat slow. And if an Engineer runs around trying to rambo you with the thing just shotgun him or melee him because he's gotta be in melee range for the thing to damage anyway. You just treat a Short Circuit Engie like a Pyro.

RareAcumen posted:Strange Short Circuits just jumped up a whole Ref in worth. I have a feeling Genuines will ramp up in price for a while, then drop off again once folks realize a key for one is a stupid price, kind of like the strange Quick-Fix (though that ended up finding a good middle ground price at 3.33 ref). I wonder how Soda Popper prices will be affected by the change to it. It's currently at 5 ref because you could just cheese a bunch of easy crit kills to build it up. Now that you actually have to do some fancy maneuvering to get a kill with it, I wonder if people will value it less.

Opened 5 Naughty Crates, got 4 festives and 1 Strange Festive Sapper. Listed the 7 Naughty Crates I had left on the Steam Market - going rate was 11 cents each. After many retries, I finally got them all listed for $.10 Refreshed the Crate page, prices have since jumped to $.25 for each crate. Whoops!

Holy poo poo, all three soldier backpacks working in tandem on a hard push will absolutely destroy any defense. I waa running Backup soldier with a Concheror and Banner soldier and we managed to pull off the backpacks at the same time on Viaduct and we absolutely steamrolled the other team. Smissmas miracle indeed, Valve.

There's still a large opportunity cost of time involved in getting a level 3 set up, though. Without the Wrangler shield or Short Circuit projectile clearing stopping you, busting sentries is laughably easy as either explosive class, and both defense options still make the Engineer even more of a sitting duck. If there are flanking routes in the map (and any good map should have them), then it doesn't require a tremendous amount of effort for a team to send a lone saboteur to stop the Engineer from even getting the chance to set up.

It does require teamwork to keep one alive. If I don't have teammates actively helping to defend my stuff then I'll almost never get a full sentry nest built, much less keep it alive against a co-ordinated push. Plus Engineers typically need to pay attention to a bunch of things in order to maintain the sentry nest, including spy-checking, repairing, watching ammo, keeping metal up, and keeping an eye out for incoming pushes. It's not hard to catch the engineer distracted by something else, and if they have to concentrate entirely on stopping rockets and grenades coming at them then most likely they're also vulnerable to a backstab or headshot, and good luck trying to get rid of rockets and grenades while also keeping your sentry repaired or knocking sappers off of it.
