For those who don't know, it's the bad guy from this, which wound up becoming the basis for one of the halloween funhaver events: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-JlevnccDk Stick Figure/Zombrero also did a remix of the soundtrack in this which was pretty boss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjiB-a1gasg And my cartoon, a parody of the poster for the old short: Anyway, I feel like I want to make the mad doctor a running gag mascot of the funhavers group now, and am tempted to do some animation with him in flash. I might redesign him to suit my ends more without copyright infringement issues though. But I kind of like him showing up, because he has fun the way I have fun - taking parts of things together and mad-sciencing them up.

Good thing I had a Strange Diamondback from opening crates a little while ago. Speaking of, I unboxed a Strange Festive Black Box. Is it better to try to sell them now or wait until after the crates go away?

Trying to draw parallels between the short circuit and airblasts is frankly idiotic. You can't even pre-fire a chasing short circuit because it destroys projectiles, rendering corners useless against it. The engie doesn't even have to be looking your way or timing shots. This short circuit is not like airblasts at all. The best pyro in all creation will still get shut down by a competent kritz demo, meanwhile any idiot with a short circuit can hold down M1 and completely negate a kritz demo. That's an important distinction, I think.

On a less angry note, I think something may be bugged with the concheror as far as points go. I've been using it with the black box and have something like 80 points when I only had 40 kills, and only a few thousand healing. Wiki says you get a healing point every 600 healing so something's not adding up. I was wondering why it felt like I was doing a decent but not spectacular job and had more than double the points of the next player down.

Dang! I happen to have a clean one of those too - what should I do with it? Also - every funhavers week because I buy piles 'o gifts for the server, I usually have a couple of mannco bonus item packages to unwrap. During the funhavers event, my unwrap from the mannco store won me a 'the bear necessities' heavy hat. Spacedad fucked around with this message at 16:18 on Dec 21, 2013 |

The Ambassador is basically the same thing as the Diamondback except you can make it crit anytime you want if you have good enough aim.

BillehS posted:The Ambassador is basically the same thing as the Diamondback except you can make it crit anytime you want if you have good enough aim. Yeah the Diamondback crits are multiplied from a reduced per-bullet damage so I think its 103 per shot instead of 149 or whatever the stock crits for. It's a handsome gun that sounds cool to shoot so I am glad they made it more useful.

I used to use the Diamondback a lot before, mainly because of how cool it sounds when you fire a crit shot. Before now, it was only really useful if the enemy team was full of Gunslinger Engies, but now it seems like a no-brainer. You can stab a pocket, then crit his Medic to death as you run away.

I appreciate that Valve is taking the Brawl Minus approach to balancing. This time last year, there were broadly speaking only two real strategies for Spy (Dead Ringer vs Invis Watch, revolver was irrelevant). Now your playstyle is more defined by your loadout choices, which was the point of having loadouts in the first place. At the same time, I could definitely see Diamondback being nerfed down to mini-crits and I have zero idea what is supposed to be happening with the Short Circuit here.

Some people seem to think that Valve misplaced a 0 for the Short Circuit, like instead of being able to fire every .01 second it's supposed to be every .1 second or something. That I can definitely believe and can attribute to oversight. The Diamondback change is pretty horrendous too. HORRENDOUSLY FUN!

It's pretty standard practice in competitive games to ban new items that have the potential to completely change the way the game works until they've been tested properly, in this case to see if they're good for 6s/Highlander as well as pub games. I know some leagues may have a reputation for "ban nearly everything, whitelist a few things" but Highlander particularly tends to take a more relaxed approach, only banning things that really break the established TF2 metagame in a way that doesn't really improve the game. It's still pretty subjective but it's by no means a case of people being "babies that hate change". You have to consider that Valve balances their weapons around 12v12 games and when there are competitive formats with half the amount of players, or even less in some games like Ultiduo, the balance doesn't always hold up.

The problem with competitive TF2 is it needs a whitelist for the weapons allowed instead of a blacklist. So many of the weapons in the game don't add much, or just make for an overall negative experience. The game needs a ton of rules and restrictions to be playable in a competitive format, moreso than a lot of other games which are played competitively. Valve balances the game for pub play, not competitive play. That said, the buffs to the Short Circuit and the Diamondback seem a little ridiculous. The new Short Circuit is really fun though. I can actually see the kill icons for it now.

They could just reduce the 'cone' of effect that the Short Circuit uses and make it so that the Engineer actually has to vaguely point at the projectiles they want to destroy. Add a bit of challenge to it. Every potential issue solved, give me $20 in Steam cash Valve.
