This is a sensible argument keeping in mind the exclusives alone, but you also gotta consider the multiplayer scene. If you've got games that are good for both platforms, but the PS4 has a thriving multiplayer scene compared to the Xbox One (or vice-versa), then you might consider that title a "pseudo-exclusive" if you're buying it for multiplayer (which the majority of PS4/Xbone owners are).

Exclusives are one way to pick between PS4 and the Bone, but you can't really look at that for the Wii U. In the same way that a lot of games came out for PC, PS3, and 360, but not Wii, we're going to get a lot of "PC/PS4/Bone but no Wii U" this gen.

Yeah, even though there's only a title or two so far that the PS4/Bone have exclusive from each other, almost their entire shared library is excluded from the Wii-U. Lumping their exclusives in with the Wii-U's exclusives doesn't paint an accurate picture. Also, online multiplayer again because that's a really big thing.

I got a Wii as soon as I could (which turned out to be "two or three days after launch"), a 360 about a year after it hit for Dead Rising, and a PS3 long after the fact in time for FF13. I preordered a Wii U and PS4. I have no intention of ever getting a Bone, even though of the three consoles from the prior generation, most of the games I bought were for 360. Nintendo may come across like a pack of clueless blunderers, but at least they didn't seem like they were actively hostile.

Yes, Wii U hardware sales are now down 10% year over year in Japan. That's a far cry from the losing-to-the-PSP level catastrophe they were just three months ago. And for 3DS sales being down, at this point enough 3DSes have sold in Japan that roughly 10% of their population owns one assuming nobody bought multiple systems. There comes a point where sales begin to plateau, which historically for Nintendo systems in Japan is either the second or third year after release. The 3DS being down in it's fourth fiscal year compared to last year should surprise no one.

Smash has broad appeal that extends way beyond the Nintendo Faithful, and will likely move units like nothing else that has been released on the console so far can. It would be great if they could drop the price another $50 somehow though. There's also going to be a whole lot of people who go "Oh hey, Smashabro, hell yeah" and then see the $3-- price tag and

The over use of the word upgrade is ridiculous and then they still never point out that there's a new console and just mention the "Wii U game pad".

As someone who has owned every Nintendo console & handheld [minus the Virtual Boy and Wii U], what's keeping me from buying the Wii U at this point in time is the lack of a real new 3D Mario game. I loved Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and Galaxy 1 & 2 more than most video games I've ever played even though I realize it's nothing extremely innovative, and I played the hell out of them. The new fixed-camera 2.5 stuff doesn't cut it for me. It doesn't -feel- like anything substantial. I'm sure it's a good game, but it won't sell me the console. What would sell me the console is 3D Mario + Smash Bros. That's it. I've read every post in this thread (dear god) and I agree with most reasons for its failure that have been mentioned, and their inability to fully embrace online multiplayer is wrecking them, but for me it's just me over here waiting for a new Mario game that isn't 2D or 2.5. Any day now.

3d World isn't 2.5d, though. There's platforming in 3D. It's not quite Galaxy/Sunshine/64, but it's not quite New Super Mario Brothers either. It's something inbetween the two, and the result is actually pretty interesting.

We ploughed through it in an afternoon, and unless we rented it again to get 100%, then the Wii U is going to gather dust again. The previous games kept me occupied for weeks, and had some genuine innovations and surprises.

You can't see the difference between people experiencing entertainment together on one screen and experiencing entertainment separately on personal screens? The reason why four player N64 was so loving fun was because if you weren't playing, you could still watch the TV and see what your friends are doing and take part in their enjoyment until it was your turn. What do you do while all of your friends are musing on their own 3DS screens?

The console can be played impromptu, immediately, whereas it has to be a pre-planned thing if you're gonna have 4 3DSes around. I don't know if I can convince you of this but I've definitely turned on a game console on a whim at gatherings, but I haven't hung out with a bunch of people to link handheld systems since pokemon in middle school, and I can't imagine my experience is the uncommon one.
