I definitely preferred the prequel to the season 2/3 run but I found them very enjoyable. The prequel was just pure entertainment like a gladiators tv show should be.

I actually didn't intend to give it a shot because with how much FX had been promoting it I figure it might be terrible, but I completely wrong and it's actually really good. For me the best thing about Rubicon was the intelligence work, i would have preferred the show have more of that, instead of watching the main character painfully stumbling through the main mystery. Also I found it strange that there was never a DVD release of the show.

Given The Question is basically Steve Ditko ranting about Objectivism, I think it'd be an interesting character to introduce, perhaps as a catalyst to push this Ollie towards his more leftist stance. As to how you would do this in the USA without feeling the ire of Fox News and the public generally who I suspect would have little traction with an openly socialist superhero, and without reducing his politics to sub Wolfie Smith level parody would be challenging at best. Suspect we won't actually ever see much of that side of the character to be honest.

ChetReckless posted:Spartacus is a fantastic show. The first three episodes are below average but it is relentlessly good after that. The series finale was one of the best episodes of TV I watched this year. My experience with Spartacus is what kept me going through Arrow's sub-par early episodes. The first hour of Spartacus was among the worst episodes of television I have ever seen - but the payoff after episode 4 was huge. Orphan Black follows a similar trajectory where it starts off pretty low and then takes off.

One of the only ways this show could get better is if they do include The Question, and have Jeffery "Puffy" Combs play him. Especially if its more leaning in the direction of the version from JLU. Didn't one of the producers tease that they were at least considering The Question on their list of characters to use at some point?

Rubicon was one of the smartest shows produced and probably the most realistic spy thriller on television and it's a shame that it got axed but the ending was perfect. I really don't understand why they never bothered with a DVD set.

I'm only halfway through Season 1 so I'm not gonna read this thread for fear of spoiling anything for myself but I just wanted to chime in and say that this show is fun as hell. I'm loving every minute of it and as I understand I'm nowhere near the good poo poo yet. I can't wait to catch up to everyone here!

Humbug Scoolbus posted:Just remember when all seems darkest..The Huntress Arc is short. And it's not even that bad. I was warned extensively about this show's first season, and it wasn't even close to as insufferable as I was led to believe. I'd love to see a Question character appear, only if he *did* become an ideological punching bag for a socialist Green Arrow. Green Arrow being super left is one of his most appealing attributes; it's so easy to make Batman-like vigilante heroes into totally Objectivist douchebags. A billionaire industrialist who self-motivates to achieve perfection, and seeks to purify his city by targeting corruption and mediocrity, sounds like the most Randian poo poo ever. But when it's reframed as being about privilege, exploitation, and wealth disparity, I'm on board. Though part of me's concerned they'd get preoccupied with Rorschach fandom, and make the character more similar to that (yes, I know Question came first.)

I liked the 2004 Punisher too, it was surprisingly light hearted and I think they nailed it. Whereas, I think War Journal was great on one hand, but kinda seemed to take itself too seriously and descended into attempted GrimDarkness too much, like they wanted so badly to be Man on Fire, but got lost and ended up being Toxic Avenger with a budget.
