Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan runs a less-than-transparent administration. For a while he was paying state expenses out of his NERD fund that was funded by anonymous corporate donors. One of the donors turned out to be CVS, which coincidentally won a $60 million no-bid contract to cover city of Detroit employees. The fund has since been shut down, so CVS is the only known donor.

It's a muddle of a cartoon, though.

Also, does anyone have the "But what if we end up making the world a better place?" cartoon? That's a really good one.

I typed out a sarcastic rejoinder and then when I was halfway through typing the word strawman I realized I was strawmanning a strawman argument. I got the sudden feeling of accidentally stepping into a hall of infinity mirrors as the finger of god, infinite in itself and infinitely reflected down the corridor of infinitely owned krinkles typing, pointed directly at my soul and said it's you, you're the one who sucks.

Anyway my point is Ally is aware that he's making a bullshit argument and is just so tired of having his logical fallacies pointed out to him by people. Maybe a joke about that? I have to reflect on things.

One thing I like about Allie is that most of the time his point is technically correct or looks technically correct at first glance, making it easier to deflect criticism as just liberals trying to scream down opposing opinions. That's pretty clever if you just judge something based on how effective it is at being political propaganda. Guy knows his audience.

I think it's saying that the tea party is eventually going to evolve into a party with a winning presidential candidate, and that the democrats are fools for not taking them seriously.

They won't, of course, but I think that's what the comic is saying.

I'm actually happy that Allie has acknowledged the rebuttal to "If global warming then why is cold?" cartoons. I think that's the first cartoonist I've seen do that.

The tea party is largely a detriment to the GOP at this point. They were and to an extent are still great to get the base riled up to vote, but the tea party largely doesn't understand the nuanced mastery of bullshit the GOP employs, and the result is the tea party being a frequent source of right-wing talking points without it going through the expensive, carefully arranged filter. The tea party works its best when it's just the public being motivated by stupid talking points, but once they demanded politicians like themselves the GOP quickly wanted to put that genie back in the bottle. Outside of, what, 2010 tea party candidates tend to do very poorly at the polls except in the reddest of districts.

Also, stop being willfully dense, JJ. It's not like religious primate and gun-toting turtle aren't still calling Obama a Muslin. It's not evolution when each of these creatures make up the same political worldview.

You probably know Haudenosaunee as the Iroquois League. I think this is referring to an incident where the passports of the members of the Iroquois Nationals (best lacrosse team, imo :colbert:) weren't accepted, but it was England that did the not-accepting, not Canada. :psyduck: As for the cartoon itself, no idea.

From wikipedia:

quote:

The Iroquois passport is not accepted for entry into Canada. In early 2010, a delegation from Kahnawake to an environmental conference in Bolivia was unable to return to Canada on the passport, stranding the group in El Salvador for several weeks before they were allowed, under escort, to transit via the United States.[15] On June 18, 2011, yet another incident has occurred at the Cornwall, Ontario, port-of-entry into Canada where an Akwesasne Mohawk woman's Haudenosaunee passport was confiscated and a Certificate of Indian Status card had to be used to cross the border.[8] When asked about this incident, a spokesman for the Canada Border Services Agency confirmed that the Iroquois passport is not on Canada's list of acceptable identification.[16]

Muir is one of the many people who believes that spermjacking is normal, healthy behavior for a woman, so his male characters tend to be okay with it as long as the spermjackee is in love with the spermjacker.

It's shocking how much racism there is up north in Minnesota. My grandmother lived her entire life in that area and whenever I'd visit, I'd hear people saying horrific things about Native Americans. When I'd ask them specifically what the issue they had with them was (I'd ask as if I were on their side) they could never give me a straight answer, just a bunch of, "Government gives them whatever they want." There isn't an irony cat big enough.

I just wanted to share this: the Native American high school in the area around Cloquet, MN is tremendous: it's modern, enormous, and has an interesting architectural design. The high school for the "white people" is average to undersized and clearly much older. This irks the ire of all the white citizens, who swear the government is just "throwing their money at the natives". I talked to a Native American man who worked at a comic book shop I occasionally visited who swore to me that their beliefs simply aren't true, that the school receives nice paychecks from casino profits. He told me to look at a billboard just outside of the Black Bear Casino the next time I passed. The sign read, "We paid out more than $120 million dollars in winnings last year alone!". He told me if the casino pays out that much, imagine what they're taking in, then he laughed and told me, "If you drat whites would just pay taxes instead of gambling, your schools could be skyscrapers." But then who would we have to hate?

So, I'm extremely glad about this system. Making cultural integrations is one of the best ideas to force ignorant people into understanding others' way of life through small steps. Sorry for the D-Rail train.

There was a great political cartoon in the early '90's that basically said, "If this was your America, how included would you feel?" and had all of Mt. Rushmore, Uncle Sam, presidents on the money, and the inauguration of the president with African-Americans as all of the participants. It was powerful enough that it's stayed with me for thirty years.

(I don't remember the name of the artist - I think he retired recently, and isn't included in the OP. He was generally liberal, and had this really really messy, cross-hatchy style. A quick google search isn't pulling him up.)

He often mangles language to try to pull off his "joke" or "point" so it's difficult to tell what the hell the characters are actually saying. Reading it makes you feel like you've had a stroke pretty much no matter what.

It also doesn't help that his characters are often inconsistent, that "continuing" plots are resolved with such a whimper that you don't remember what's going on, and everybody looks exactly the same because they're all traced over porn.
