Symthic shows that the 870 and Saiga have no recoil or spread whatsoever. That can't be right, can it? Is there a better way to break down a comparison of the shotguns (besides pump vs. semi-auto)?

For pump, use the 870 as it fires the most pellets or the UTS-15 as its the most accurate from hipfire / huge capacity. For semi autos, the M1014 if you prefer breech loading or the Saiga if you prefer mag loading. The DBV does have more rounds than the Saiga, but I find the huge vertical recoil makes it much worse to use. Also flechettes have a tigher spread than buckshot on all shotguns except for the UTS-15, where they have the same spread. And buckshot does 33% less damage to people running the defensive perk due to body armor. You are literally better off shooting someone in the arms or legs than the chest if they are running the defensive perk.  Flechette ignores the body armor damage penalty and hits for full damage. Also penetrates. Flechettes own

I hardly ever run defensive but I've heard a few people say it's the most common and wonder where that stat comes from.

As long as you have one good gun in each class of weaponry you arent really at a loss. It takes time to unlock stuff (I went through about 3 50% boosts to unlock the god drat medic crate, probably because its a class I've never really played and didnt really get into) but you will always find 2-3 weapons in each weapon class that are usable for your style. I use the MTAR as my go-to weapon w/flash hider across all my classes, but also have the AK5C configured with a silencer for when I want to go stealthy. My recent favorite thing to do is Recon w/ TUGS and the 870 and just dominate an enclosed space. The progression is slow, but sure beats the poo poo out of COD because at least the gameplay allows for varying types of engagement which allows some weapons to shine over others. as long as you are playing your role with the right weapon, you wont have a bad time. The only guns I am really having trouble using to my full potential are the LMGs, which dont really seem to work that well anymore. I used to be a bipod whore but theres no real advantage to laying down a heap of supression now that it doesnt also have the ability to become a laserbeam of 7.62 ammunition

Anyone else having trouble with 'lost connection to EA servers' Bullshit errors? I can log in on both PC and ipad to battlelog fine, I just cant join any games. I even uninstalled and reinstalled (two hours to reinstall 40GB game? wtf) and it still wont loving work.

The server browser just generates a bunch of made up servers, it doesn't actually work. Seriously, it's pretty bad. Your best bet is to either use the server browser through the Battlelog website or download the app.
