This is interesting. It feels like part of a story. What is this man doing there? Does he do this every day? Why is he watching so intently?

I would have liked to see a wider angle - there are people around him - are they watching? If so are they appalled? interested? What is their reaction?

Fantastic shot - this is, to me, a good example of street photography.

I refuse to be part of your furry fantasies
On one of the wettest Saturdays of the year so far, I ventured forth onto the Gloucester Road in Bristol, UK to try out my new camera. Often at ISO 800 due to the cloud cover and general darkness I ended up getting some shorts that I was happy with (and quite a few I wasn't!). This was also my first go at zone focusing.

This one I wasn't so happy with, didn't quite get my focus right.

Also, what are people using to post their photos from flickr with the standardised Title, username and ", on flickr" bit?

Click on the the icon of the arrow coming out of the box and there's BBcode you can copy/paste.

I really like that first picture. It may not be America, but it feels kinda Rockwellian.

I had to disable Adblock to get that menu to show up, I think it has to do with the social sharing buttons that I enabled blocking for.

Going to try street shooting tomorrow or Monday, although I only have a DSLR. If I can get something that's not a back of head pic that's worth showing I'll probably post it here.

Well gently caress me, I've been doing the BBCode by hand.

I did a whole bunch of street work while in Hanoi, Vietnam last week. It was great practice getting some panning practice in. It was made a little bit more difficult due to the fact that they were coming towards me at an angle as well. AI Servo + expanded focus points wins here! I actually ended up with a fairly high amount of keepers considering. Probably about 50%.

That is a really cool set, I like the whole idea.
I've got a nex without a viewfinder, so panning seems really hard to me. :3:

Yeah, I have no idea how you'd do panning without a viewfinder. Maybe you'd get lucky one out of a thousand attempts!

Ah slick, I work just across from the Mshed it's pretty.

Did the homeless guy you took a picture of on Gloucester Road try and grab your camera or anything? I've seen him do that before to people just walking past, let alone one pointing at him.

I really like that one of the kids on the penny machines man, the light is gorgeous.

What length lens do people use for their shots generally? I'm considering getting a nice 50mm with better optical quality than my kit 18-55, would that be too long still?

Moving to primes is pretty much always a good move, but on a cropped sensor, 50mm is going to feel a little long. 28/35/50 (roughly 18/24/35 on APS-C) are the typical lengths associated with street photography, but use whatever feels good to you.

I was walking past holding my camera and he asked me to take his photo. No camera grabbing or anything.

The 40mm pancake is fantastic for street.
