Every time one of those pops up, I keep hearing my Analytical Writing professor in my head pointing out the utter stupidity of that sort of argument.

I feel like racism in all media has gotten worse since the Trayvon Martin case. During the trial, Fox News and other right wing outlets really pushed a lot of clearly racist perspectives, and it seems as if people took that as a cue that racism was okay as long as what you say is "true."

I got some kind of cancer awareness thing I guess? (For reference, she lives in Australia, where we have glorious socialised medicine and cancer patients don't have to fork out hundreds of thousands for their treatments.)

Why does it never occur to these quacks that if this "cure" existed, these evil mystery profiteers could just charge more than the current total treatment costs?

Not to mention, you know, the sheer PR/marketing/fame for a company that can say 'We loving cured cancer!' Also, less people dying, more people you can sell poo poo to later in life!

Another thing I see is that they seem to think that BIG PHARMA is a huge, unified cabal. What would actually happen if one of them discovered the cure for cancer is that they would get it on the market faster than anyone else could and reap the insane profits. They also think that cancer is one disease that you could cure with a magic pill, rather than a myriad of them with different forms of treatment based on their nature and location.

People will still keep getting cancers all the time so there will always be a market for this miracle cure Big Pharma are hiding. Until they make some sort of impossible wonder drug that stops people getting any possible cancer altogether that, naturally, they will also hide because making profits is anathema to them. It also ignores that some cancers, such as most forms of testicular cancer, are for all intents and purposes considered cured, with ~96% survival rate even in stage 3 (which is the most advanced stage) It's just that the cure is chemotherapy, and I guess curing cancer with drugs just isn't acceptable???

That they dissolved half their guts and require a poop bag/constant medical supervision to survive is secondary to the fact that they are technically cancer free, if only because the organs that had cancer cells present (along with with their organ neighbors) no longer exist

That, plus the marketability of being a Nobel Laureate: book deals, lecture tours, greater potential to be hired somewhere with a nice, fat pension... And that's just from a purely financial perspective.

I'm a big supporter of unions but those "Shame On X" banners are often a scam. Try talking to the 'protestors' some time. They're almost universally day laborers unconnected with any union, getting payed dollars an hour with no benefits and have no idea what they're supposed to be protesting. Sometimes they're hired by unions but other times they're hired by competitors. I don't put any stock in them anymore.

From trying to find out more about the Shame protests, I've not been able to find much other than when the Unions are asked about them, they go 'no comment'. Going from what I've seen of them, they just sit out in chairs with a banner up. One day one of the guys was reading 50 Shades of Grey while holding the banner up.

There was a recent major study in Germany that looked at a bunch of cases that were attributed to cannabis. Of all the deaths they looked at, only two were directly marijuana related, and both had some sort of heart issue that smoking made worse. The rest were all ruled as deaths from other causes while they happened to be smoking. The study is getting some flack.

I'm Ella Vator. I could have handled it better, but I just got mad. Somewhere in that rambling screed Lynn Guini talks about how Medicare/Medicaid expansion would have been a better alternative to the PPACA, but then he talks about how America should have voted for McCain, or for a Republican-majority Senate, or for Romney and how it totally doesn't count that he's in the military while thumbing his nose at Obamacare because he was never going to buy health insurance anyway and won't even after he leaves the service.
