FLIGHT SAFETY TIP: Fatties out first

MrChips posted:

Honestly? Talk to Westjet. They *might* let you into one of their sims for a session, but understand it will be a) very expensive (likely well north of $1000), b) probably at a really odd time (like 3 AM on a Tuesday) and if they will in fact let you in, c) potentially a LONG lead time to your sim date...as in several months.

OK I just got a message back from a friend in Westjet Flight Ops...no sim rentals to anyone who isn't working at a company with a valid Air Operator Certificate.

So unless you start an airline Slidebite, you're out of luck. :(

So flying with goons was a blast today. I also managed to put a bit more time into flying the Mi-8, here is a picture of my Mi-8 after attempting to cross into South Ossetia and forgetting my de-icing systems.

It went well, all things considered. Not pictured is the opposite rotorblade missing it's tip.

I'd like to test more human-JTAC scenarios. I took one of the Combined Arms missions, stripped out the SAMs and AAA, added more player aircraft spawns and JTAC vehicles.

We can attempt to move the friendly armor...

...into the objective area where they're vastly outnumbered, with the help of JTAC fire missions.

I had more fun for however briefly you were guiding me as JTAC on your edited map than I did on the whole Suse map.

It seems like there is a ton of potential there with player JTAC

The Suse mission seemed well suited to the Ka-50, I think the A-10 was a bit overkill seeing as there was a ton if helicopter escorting. I had a lot if fun either way, but for Suse I was in a Ka-50 and flew a Su-25 for the second one.

I'd kill for that. Sub sims don't get enough nearly enough love. Silent Hunter is good too, but frustratingly inconsistent, the latest one is terrible without mods.

Yeah but it's just ww2. If you want modern sub sim, it's dangerous waters or 688i Hunter Killer which is just old and obsolete dangerous waters.

By the time Nevada is released, the real Nevada will be at the bottom of the pacific. Which will be handy, as no-one will be able to verify its accuracy.

SH4 was good and works on windows 8. SH5 sort of works. If you're playing old sims, you're better off installing a windows xp partition. Then you can play dangerous waters. :getin:

I enjoyed SH5 with a ton of mods that made it pretty good. The graphics mods really helped making it immersive. It's pretty cool to be out on the open ocean with waves splashing on your sub and poo poo.

walking around the sub was seriously cool, but even with mods, the hydrophone and bridge watch is a huge pita in SH5 and often doesn't work at all in time acceleration, leading to ramming boats without warning, getting blown up without warning, having not enough time to crash dive away from planes, etc.. also four torpedos to sink one ship? If you're just wanting a high fidelity tanking sim without the aircraft modeling Steel Beasts now offers a pretty reasonable subscription model.

I don't know, I just hate the concept of paying yearly for a game, and the non-subscription version needs a loving USB dongle for their DRM.

Dangerous Waters worked just fine last I checked on my Win 7 x64 install. At least, it seemed playable and I pushed buttons randomly and accidentally lit up a neutral cargo ship with my 76mm.

It does not require dongle if you use subscription model. I did play it recently and it worked perfectly, though, if I recall correctly, you will need to form separate subscription for each separate physical machine you are going to play on.

Hello, I'm the one man who cannot stand god drat Track IR.

Either my head is loving with the signal or something, but it isnt properly registering about 30% of the time, or I'm turning my head too far or some poo poo, but its erratic performance just ruins the experience for me.

I wanted to introduce myself, because I cry on my hat switch every night.

Is there a window behind you? If so it's likely sunlight mucking it up. It might also be that if you're using the TrackClip with the LEDs they're overlapping. Either way go check the camera view in the software to see if there's any obvious issues.

Dandywalken
Feb 11, 2014

Naah, it isnt that. I'm gonna try and mount the reciever offset to the left side of my monitor to have a better view of the headset's LED's. I've just had the reciever centered this whole time which frankly probably hasnt helped!

Dark_Swordmaster

e: ^ Oh well there you go. Dummyhead. :colbert:

A window behind you or a bright light source is a cause. You can try rotating the TrackIR itself. I use the Track Clip Pro (TM) and since it's on the left of my headphones, the TrackIR is literally less than an inch from falling off the left side of my monitor. The TrackIR itself faces slightly inward but it's pretty much 99% pointed straight out. Open up the TrackIR program and gently caress around, pay attention to the head and the head it sees, seeing if there's somewhere you have a blind zone.

FreeTrack's terrible but I don't think TrackIR's program has a feature to let you literally see what the camera sees, FreeTrack does. Use that to see if it's picking up other light sources or if your LEDs are just getting obscured. I found with my TrackIR any further towards the center when turning left the middle LED would become obscured and tracking went out the loving window.

SocketSeven

Track IR software has a cameras eye view that will show your IR sources, and what it thinks is your hatclip/trackclipro

It will not show you an actual image, but if you have some other IR source causing problems you can see it, and it's also more then enough to center your camera on the targert.

I used an LA Dodgers hat and it took me like 2 months to figure out the La in the logo would cause erratic behavior. I put a black cloth over it and it fixed my problems.
