I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars
They criticized me for it, yet they all yell "holla"
If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be
Lyrically Talib Kweli
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did 5 mil - I ain't been rhyming like Common since
congrats to kanye, lil wayne, snoop, and 2pac for being the lowest common hip hop denominator

Suppose the oil man,
He comes to town.
And you don't lay money down.
Yet Mr. King,
He killed the thread
The other day.
Well I wonder.
Who's gonna go to Hell?
|
quote:cerebral hip hop has always been kept down by the man (aka the free market, not the market of ideas) because nobody dont got time for dat.
that's why talib kwali and erika badu had to revert to white hate to make any sort of living. Their attempt at being intelligent kind of backfired. this is also why Common Sense had to change his stage name to Common -- it sounds cooler therefore makes money.

you only need to get somebody interested enough to buy it, and its an idea that's applied to more than just jay z's recent work

I'm just saying he called it and was right about it. he's saying "I wish I could rap like these guys that are legendary emcees but they're too smart for the mass market, and I want to get paid, so I have to intentionally become worse"
The guys on the left side of the chart are all megapopular like kanye, lil wayne, drake, 2pac, snoop, and the guys on the right side of the chart like wutang and aesop have big careers but haven't broken in to the zeitgeist the same way the others have

They're incredibly popular with white hipsters mostly but their success is not in any way comparable to e.g. snoop

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAdfpfC7Cm8 is cool
quote:Poet Laureate Infinity:
A concept invented by the rapper Canibus in 2007. The song contains 5 different 200 bar layers, for a total of thousand bars. It was originally displayed on a virtual mixing board online. Essentially, you would press play and all 5 sets of 200 bars would play at once, with 4 muted.
You could at any time, mute one, and unmute a different one.
And do this every single bar, and no matter what they would flow to make a new rhyme. As it was designed to make "infinite" rhymes there were countless different mixes that could be created.
Infinite rhyming consists of layers that share the exact same rhyme scheme and flow. By putting each layer into a separate channel of a mixer, it gives the user the ability to switch between layers seamlessly. This while still maintaining a coherent rhyme structure, content, rhythm and flow. Thereby allowing users to create their own songs, or mixes, in an infinite number of ways. This video displays how it was recorded, but as stated above, you can create your own songs from it.
Layer 1, Bar 1:
I spit rhymes for your pleasure/ You listen at your leisure/
I only record it once you listen to it forever/
Layer 2, Bar 1:
I spit at a thousand KIPS, kilo tonnes of pressure/
Every letter is measured/ in such a way you will remember/
He set a record in 2007 for the most bars ever recorded on a single track in history.
