Depends on where it's at. Out here in the PNW a diesel engine doubles the price of a used truck. The 460EFI isn't a bad motor, but you'll be lucky to see double-digit MPG numbers out of it if you're running empty and soft on the pedal. If you tow with it you can expect to see 5-7mpg.

Powershift posted:It's an 06 f-150. probably a little light for your use. Ahh poo poo yeah. I could easily make do with an f150, but the stupid GVWR isn't enough. Anyways, I need a Longbox because I want a nice mammoth camper to put on it. Also wtf is the Ram 2500 down 3000lb from the Ford 250 ? (Both Gas motors). Is it because the Gas Hemi is 350ish horsepower and the Ford 6.2L gasser is 410hp ? The Ram 2500 with 3.73 axle is limited to 8800lb pulling capacity, and 11800 with the 4.10 gearing. The Ford F250 Starts at 12,000lb towing and goes to 15,000lb with 4.10 gearing. I love the Ford, but im looking for a higher mileage gas unit, and if the motor ever pops, I'd much rather look for and replace a pushrod v8 than a 90 degree SOHC V8.

I'll likely add an extra trans cooler in line for shits and giggles. I did that with my Automatic Jeep JKU and towed a tandem axle uhaul loaded to 5000lb. I was sitting 6000lb on the vehicle axles and 4200lb on the trailer axles, Even with surge brake it was fine. As long as I didnt go faster than 100.

And matching those up with auction results https://www.rbauction.com/2012-dodge-2500hd-slt-crew-cab-4x4-pickup?invId=4165427&id=ar $4900 cheaper, might literally be the same truck https://www.rbauction.com/2011-ford-f250-xlt-crew-cab-4x4-pickup?invId=4161915&id=ar Higher mileage, but $9000 cheaper. https://www.rbauction.com/2011-ford-f350-xlt-crew-cab-4x4-pickup?invId=4165389&id=ar Higher mileage, but $2500 and a diesel. Auctions are a gamble, naturall, but saving $9000 off a $17000 truck can put a lot of longevity modifications into it. some texas redneck posted:I like the gay pride sticker. I understand cheap truck love. My dad upgraded from his Ranger to an F150 a few years ago. Now it's my $free 4banger truck. Fleet model, didn't come with a radio, has vinyl bench seat and an odd combination of long box, 4cyl, and automatic transmission. The ever-clattery 2.5 wasn't used for very long - it replaced the older 2.3 and was quickly replaced by the newer 2.3. This ranger is completely overbuilt for the tiny amount of power the 2.5 makes and less mass than a Taurus. I replaced the original set of tires at like 70,000 miles not because the tread was gone, but because the sidewalls looked ugly and cracked. Original brakes lasted till just shy of 100,000. Only problem it's ever given me was a dead alternator.

The to do list has gotten longer today. There's so much grime in the carpet that I just pulled the bench seat out so I could spray everything down good with carpet cleaner and get to work. But that's obnoxious work so I took a break and clipped the ratty connector-less towing light harness that was hanging off the rear bumper. While underneath getting some electrical tape on the new end I again noticed my exhaust has a good sized hole in it--and of course did the obvious thing and poked the pipe for fun. It swung freely. It is not actually attached anymore as the area it mounts to on the muffler rusted out and is now a nice jagged hole. Guess that explains the exhaust smell if I leave the rear window open and get stuck at a light for a min or two.

Best thing about old trucks? Parts are soooooo ridiculously cheap. I'm kind of at the stage where my approach is just gently caress it, I'll buy a new part. New water pump? 30$. Brand new key cylinder and ignition switch? 10$ a pop for OEM. New starter? 30$. Bushings, struts, etc, this almost feels criminal... I'm even starting to think about transmissions and engines now because gently caress it, for 500$ why not? Maybe eventually it'll even go from a POS to a reliable POS

Tail lights in good used condition for my trucks sell for 150-300 APIECE on ebay (I have five sets, or more, squirreled away at this point. Every time I see an MJ in the yard, I grab the tail light housings if they're in good shape. And the tailgate. And the rear bumper. And the fuel level sender assembly. And the trailer hitch. And the bucket seat brackets. And...) On the flip side, literally almost everything forward of the B pillars is shared with the 3 million XJs they churned out from 87 through 01, so bolt-on upgrades and replacement parts for that end of the vehicle are incredibly cheap. Used engine for $100? Transmissions for $free-$200? Axleshafts for $30? Don't mind if I do!

So I did it. Bought the 89 F-250. Seemed decent enough on the test drive and was able to talk him down a few more hundred dollars. Blaise posted:Really? We have 3 MJs in the yard and I only grabbed the tailgate I needed. Whoops Anything MJ specific is "save it from the crusher" level rare now. Tail lights haven't been available at the dealer for over a decade. Zero aftermarket replacements available. Fuel level sender brackets, beds, tailgates, B pillar trim, bucket seat brackets, rear bumpers, etc are all unobtainium too. Sale prices vary greatly. I've seen NOS tail lights go for 600 a set before. Used ones in almost new condition can reach the same prices, but sometimes go for cheap. So I basically just grab anything that is MJ specific at pull a part price and stash it. Most MJ owners do the same, it's save it or it is gone forever these days. Worst case, I know for a fact I can get my money back out of them within a week if I ever need to.
