The new 52 Wonder Woman with all the heavy Greek myth poo poo should be the way they adapt Wonder Woman henceforth. Having a bad-rear end Amazon going around fighting gods and giant monsters practically writes itself. It could be Xena but less homoerotic.

You mean the part about how new Amazons are born? I mean...you can't really remove that since it's a factor of the historical Amazon legacy or whatnot, can you?

Funny you say that.

One A-lister from whom Catanzaro would like to hear: Arrow star Stephen Amell, a self-proclaimed Ninja Warrior superfan, who has hit the gym with Catanzaro’s boyfriend and trainer Brent Steffensen (himself a four-time ANW competitor). Watching a video of Amell’s Ninja-esque “Superhero Workout,” Catanzaro noted that “his form is just tip-top. Maybe he could teach me some things. I wouldn’t hate that.”

You never know. The networks have no problem promoting clips on each others' late night shows and this seems like it would be a logical extension of that.

Whether Amell would want to do it in costume is another story.

Yes. In fact last night's episode, which was the St. Louis finals, had it.

They use the same Mt. Midoriyama as Sasuke, though they build a copy in Vegas.

Any obstacle course without the redonkulous cliff-hangar is easier than Sasuke. It don't know if it's possible for an inanimate object to cheat but I'm 95% sure that the Ultimate Cliff-Hangar is cheating.

Amell should do the Sasuke course in costume. In Character. As Ollie. In the show. As in, Ollie should have to fight dudes while navigating the Sasuke course.

E: With help from Makoto Nagano. Not him playing a character, just the man himself.

"Historical." :crossarms:

We can change things from "history" so that Amazons survived to contemporary times on a magic island and sent their princess to fight Nazis and werecheetahs, but we can't change the absolute worst part of Brian Azzarello's run, which was a recent revision to the way they were depicted in DC Comics beforehand anyway?

If they can depict Thor without including the part where he's a dwarf-murdering rear end in a top hat, I think we can include Wonder Woman without the retcon where her people raped men for two thousand years and killed their own sons.

(Of course, knowing Snyder, that's gonna be the part he fixates on the most.)

Is part of Azzarelo's narrative since WW is making changes to the amazons now that she's their queen. Taking it away would need to change the whole narrative.

Oh god I don't loving care.

edit: Okay, I know I'm talking to the biggest brick wall of a Nu52 white knighter here who has been hellbent on defending this and all their other offensive storylines for actual years by now, but in brief: Who cares if we need to change the narrative if our whole point was that the narrative was offensive and therefore bad in the first place? So Azzarello would've been forced to write a different story if he hadn't been allowed to make the Amazons rape monsters? Good!

I don't disagree, but I think a lot of fans, both male and female, would be a bit peeved if they made WW a straight-up lesbian. Isn't it a negative stereotype that only lesbians (or "mannish women") are capable of doing "manly" things like beating up bad guys and the like, and "proper" straight girls are interested in playing house and poo poo? To say nothing of all the bondage.

Anyway, Azzarello's run on WW has been absolutely excellent and should be read by everyone who loves WW and wants to see her kick lots of rear end. It has all the Greek gods show up too and they all look sweet. It reads more like DC Magic stories than proper super hero nonsense--kind of a Constantine feel to some of it, and a lot of Clash of the Titans too.

Ooooh so meeeaaan. :what:

I care about the state of Wonder Woman and of characters that were once held as foremost examples of empowered, admirable women in comics. I don't care about the litany of thin-rear end excuses that DC apologists continue to come up with to defend a series that -- despite whatever else it may have going for it -- is still layered in heavily-misogynist bilge.

In the meantime this is becoming less and less relevant to Arrow, though I'd be happy to continue derailing on whatever thread is more appropriate for it if there are any particular problematic things you want to add.

A few more details surrounding Season 3 of Arrow and Season 1 of The Flash.

quote:

What’s interesting about the villain in season three is that he doesn’t necessarily disagree with [Oliver]. He doesn’t have any personal animus towards the Arrow, and he actually in some ways has a very similar worldview. [But] the Arrow is thinking too small.

They're pretty much saying it'll be Ra's al Ghul, but is there anyone else who might think like him and Oliver?

Also, looks like they're really going to go all out for the big Arrow/Flash crossover and lead that into a mid-season finale. The more I hear about this the more hyped I get because it means that metahumans might start making their way into Arrow.

I feel like this now, but I would honestly love to see Batman show up later in the show--for the final season, maybe, if they decide to ramp up a big event to lead into Justice League. Problem is, ain't no way you'll get Ben Affleck to cameo in a TV show without tanking the budget.
