The GL is neat, we are replacing our Saab 9-7x Aero with it. It drives well, is quiet and solid, makes good power, has already taken the bulk of its initial depreciation, and is easy for everyone to get in and out of. That will be the primary kid hauler.

It averaged something like 18mpg on the way home! I say that like it's a good thing but something like my last 5 cars have all been V8s, so I may have some perception bias...

3 car seats will fit - maybe not 3 rear-facing (if you're stupid like me - we will briefly have 3 kids under 3 in December) but certainly 3 across front-facing. There are a couple front-facing car seats specifically designed to allow 3 across. We have one and while I don't like its LATCH system it would probably be fine with a seatbelt through it. Most of the time though the GL is those kids' Huckleberry.

Awesome, enjoy. We have, currently, two Radian/Sunshine Kids seats and they fit three across. Three of them is a forgone conclusion really.

We are multiplying! The Recaros look so cool. Nice man. I want to find a used set.

If I had a V I'd lose my license so fast. The 3.6L is adequate enough to keep me entertained and not kill me or drain my wallet every time I fill up.

The Recaros are really, really firm. Maybe not painful but drat they are not plush. Be careful what you ask for.

I got a $355 driving award on the way home for 100 (102) in a 75, so yes, I too need to dial it back. :( The V1 can't save you from instant-on guys hiding under bridges. :( Of course that was the only time I had it over 100 and the only instant-on cop I found on the entire 1300 mile drive back...

Welcome to the Danger Zone
Never sat in one but my former DTS had almost pillow soft seats. I've had a few gen 2 loaners mostly base CTS's and those seats sucked. I got the heated/cooled and they are ok much better then the base but I miss the ability to angle the headrest like the DTS. I test drove a Grand Prix GXP eons ago with the suede inserts and those seats were so good.

I drive like a madman and even with AWD I still get 21 mpg on my commute.

Also not sure what they did but the Blows™ sound system sounds way better then the system I had in the DTS. Not as good as the late 90s 4.0 Bose but good enough.

You got the keyless access? Not needing keys is awesome.

The biggest insult when I got mine was no spare and the PO never put the inflator back in. So I bought a used spare that wasn't cheap but cheaper then new. I think the V can use the mini spare with a spacer.

Might get a V sway bar people say it helps. Though I have no complaints with how the car performs in Performance trim.

I had been looking at a -V wagon at a dealer up in Ft. Collins and had been talking to the sales guy up there about it on Thursday and Friday, but it sold first thing Saturday morning. As the sales guy told it there was a dude waiting outside for them to open.

So I was bummed about that and mid-day Saturday cruised around on cars.com and Autotrader and found a dealer in Santa Clara, CA that had just listed this one and hadn't even uploaded photos. They had just received it off a truck Friday night.

I called, asked some questions, and told them I wanted it if we could come to terms. By Saturday evening we were set and I booked tickets for me and my dad (convinced him to help me, poor guy!) to fly into San Jose Sunday morning (car dealers are open on Sundays in CA apparently).

Sales puke picked us up at the airport, went back to the dealership, and an hour later we were on our way home via I-80. Drove through the night and made it back to Denver Monday AM at about 11am.

That makes the 5th car I have retrieved from out of state in the past few years... Getting pretty good at it now. :P

Yeah in the morning I was really pissed there was no interior hatch handle. Need to rectify that.

Also I want to get mosquito netting and some magnets and make a frame. The idea is I'll crack both sunroofs open and then put the netting on. Instant camp tent.

When I used to camp in my Escort wagon I used one of those plastic adjustable screen things on the back window with some weatherstrip on the top and bottom. I'd get it in place and roll up the window to secure it. Worked awesome.

Keep in mind that you might not be able to go sideways at reasonable speeds any more, as I also discovered after replacing PO's disintegrating Bridgestones with a set of AD08 :(

Due to the better tyres? Or the taller tyre sidewall on the smaller wheels?

That's my first choice for my wife, but they are expensive around here. Lowest local dealer would go on one for me was 23,5 for one with 41k miles. I like the styling and interior and the chassis is fine but for a car that isn't really sports or luxury it seems a little dear.

Better tyres, they're just way stickier than the old ones were. Though I suspect that a taller sidewall might have an effect too in your case.

- Every one on craigslist is donked or has had some other dumb poo poo done to it, and as such the owner thinks it's worth $6-10k.
- 4500 pound V8 beast hurts the pocket when it comes to gas.

Awesome! I shopped around quite a bit (mostly other hatchbacks, not wagons, since there are so few wagon options) and I think this pretty much hits a sweet spot of price / performance/ reliability / cargo room / luxury.

Is that with the tech package? If not, that seems quite steep. I ended up at 24.7 for a certified 2012 with 22k miles and the tech package.

I live in NC, but drove to VA to pick this up. There were few options around here. If it has the tech package, that might not be so bad then? Assuming it's a 2012, KBB puts that at 25k.

Here I am menacing a lot of C5s and 5th gens today. Raced in the Super Chevy Show at Bandimere - big event, tons of people there - and of course broke out in the first round. :( DA was around 8800 ft too but the -V still ran low 13s. Hopefully this is the last time I race it stock.

Friend's coupe in the foreground, btw, runs 10s even at our altitude. These cars are nuts.

Can I ask if you're still reading the thread how you're liking this?

I'm considering this as my next car. I currently have a 09 Jaguar XF and while I really love most things about it, the build quality is, uh, well it's a Jaguar. I don't know how much of it is because it's a first model year car, but the dash is like coming up and folding in on itself (the leather I mean), the roof liner is sort of falling down and they want hundreds of dollars to fix it, it's had tons of leaks, etc. I can't decide if I test drive the BMW wagon if I want to get a 2014 or wait til 2015 to avoid getting the first model year of this wagon. I'm not sure how much it matters though since it's not the first model year of the actual 3 series body that it's on, so I dunno what to do. I haven't even driven it yet though so I might hate it and it might be irrelevant.

In general I just want something that's fun to drive and utilitarian and I definitely don't want any sort of crossover because I hate the elevated position. The price isn't a huge concern as long as it's not like 60k+ which is why I'm still considering the BMW even though value wise it's pretty bad. The 328i wagon seems like the best of all worlds though as far as toys, driving experience, comfort, speed, cargo, etc.

If I lived in a country where I could just get the XF wagon I might even consider it since I think it's gotten a bit better and it looks amazing but I don't so it's pretty irrelevant.

The other problem with the BMW wagon is that since so few are sold I'm gonna have a really hard time buying a used one with all the stuff I want (I am a huge fish when it comes to buying options but I really do like and use most of them) and in a color that I want (pretty much sand only, I don't want a dark color because it's too hot here and I think the gray leather looks stupid). So I'm afraid I might have to get one new and just feel like a huge rube for paying so much since getting a new car just seems really ridiculous. I bought my Jaguar with only 7k miles on it and it was $13,000 less than the original sticker price.
